Former U.S. attorney general Eric Holder describes Kamala Harris as “somebody who is like Barack [Obama], somebody who I think can bring people together, somebody who's obviously a first. America loves firsts.” In a conversation with NTD’s Kelly Wright, Holder says he hopes the Harris-Walz ticket will encourage people to “start talking to one another.”

Many people are telling me that this particular historic convention is generating
the same kind of energy as former President Barack Obama had generated
when he first launched his campaign. Do you sense that?
Yeah, there's that same feeling that we don't have a moment here, that we actually have the
beginnings of a movement. And I see in Kamala, who I've known for 20, 25 years or so, somebody
who is like Barack. Somebody who I think can bring people together. Somebody who's obviously
a first. America loves firsts. America loves change. And I think there are a lot of echoes
from 2008 to 2024. And I think it's interesting that this is roughly 20 years ago since Barack
gave that big speech in Boston that actually catapulted him into the national stage.
What is your hope for America?
I hope that through this electoral process and through a Harris-Waltz administration,
that we will start talking to one another. We can disagree, but let's talk to one another.
Let's get back to normal. I'll disagree with conservative Republicans, and they'll disagree
with me. But I'd like to get back to a place where I don't think that our democracy is at stake,
that we'll operate within the parameters that have always kind of guided this nation.
And I'm actually hopeful that we can pull that off.
