And on to the pitch, led out by today's referee, Adrián Cordero Vega,
as the Espanyol anthem can be heard.
Espanyol finished fourth last season in the second tier.
However, the ball drops here kindly for Rayo Vallecano,
opens the scoring, not even five minutes into the game.
Three and a half on the clock, in fact.
Completely by Omar El-Hilali.
Jofra's got space to run here now for Espanyol,
he's into the box, he's got teammates in support,
he cuts it back, the chance!
And the equaliser!
There is the goal!
It's Romero, who instantly asks for the ball.
It's his first goal for Espanyol.
So Romero, out wide on the left as well to turn round Ratio,
chips the ball into the box.
Vélez with the header.
We're looking to try and keep back-to-back clean sheets
for the first time since August 2021,
but they have conceded here already today.
And that was much longer with his Espanyol side.
Álvaro García does well here for Rayo,
however, plays it back across.
Camello with the clear effort,
but it's well blocked by Romero.
Álvaro García now plays the ball back in,
a header, and on the volley!
Off the crossbar!
What a chance for Florian Lejeune,
and ultimately Camello.
Ball now, can he play it in from the corner?
Helped on!
And there at the post!
Was Knall to help it across the line?
Failed to do so, Chedida couldn't get a touch either.
In the meantime, another 90 minutes are up,
as Nteka gets a good shot on target.
Isi Palazón cleverly brings it down,
it's still Isi Palazón!
And it took a deflection.
Whipped in again,
Joan García gets his fist to the ball.
Aguado brings it down,
plays it first time,
Chedida cleverly finds Irvin Cardona,
he's in behind here,
it's 2-on-1 potentially,
Cardona!
Brilliant save from Dani Cárdenas!
That's the save that might risk you a point,
although Alejo Leith has a chance now!
He wins the game for Espanyol!
Late drama at the RCDE Stadium,
Alejo Leith with his first goal for the club,
has won it!
Will indeed bring the game to a close on 100 minutes,
Manolo González gets his first win in the top flight as a manager,
Espanyol secure their first three points of this new season.
