Good day to all of you.
My name is Evelin Mihailov and I would like to congratulate you on one of the biggest Bulgarian holidays,
which is the 24th of May, the day of Bulgarian literacy.
I know that nowadays fewer and fewer people appreciate what literacy does,
for the simple reason that we are flooded with information that is on the Internet,
television information.
We are more and more used to seeing things visually,
to be given to us by the mind,
and in this way, little by little, we are moving away from literacy,
even more so, we are moving away from our native literacy.
A few years ago, I was wondering if there was any difference between people who read
and people who just watch television,
or not just television, let's say,
people who watch TV shows,
who prefer to learn something through TV shows,
and not through reading.
And what I have always noticed is that people who read are much more intelligent
than people who watch TV
or those who perceive through different videos.
I did not know what the answer was,
why this thing happens until one moment.
Now, I will show you a book that I accidentally read,
it was recommended from another book,
and I decided to read this book to understand a little more
about how the media form public opinion.
I started reading it with an idea of how the media form public opinion,
but in fact, I got the answer to the question about literacy.
And what happens, what does literacy do with the consciousness of a person
and with his ability to make miracles in his life.
In this book, The Laws of the Media,
they say that years ago, when people communicated only in a verbal way,
then history was transmitted purely as events,
through storytelling, through plays, through performances,
and one of the most famous works in the world,
Iliad, which is by Nolmir,
was actually written in a book six centuries later than the events themselves.
Or, in the early years, this event was recreated only through plays.
What did people think while perceiving all the information through plays?
Plays are an analog of television, the Internet, electronic games,
a new type of transmission of information.
It also existed then,
but now it is not transmitted remotely to billions of people,
it is transmitted only to the viewers who have managed to watch it.
It turns out that when the information is transmitted through performances,
then a person gets limited thinking.
He gets a spherical thinking,
in which, when he decides to leave the sphere, he reaches the limit.
Or people become like parrots,
and they cannot expand their perception,
they cannot do anything beyond what is generally known.
This was until the written alphabet was invented,
and it began to be imposed.
Because in ancient Greece,
the information was first transmitted through performances,
through speech, through orators,
they can track how this country developed
until the appearance of writing and before it.
What does writing do with our brain?
And what is very important to know is that
what the alphabet does, this magic,
is not so much for the one who writes it, but for the one who reads it.
Writing helps the human brain to think irreversibly.
Writing allows us to expand our thinking so much
that we can achieve absolutely everything in our lives.
Or writing is at the heart of the evolution of humanity
and reaching the heights we have reached at the moment.
But note, not for the whole of humanity,
but only for the reading people.
What happened years ago,
is that writing was a privilege only for the rich people,
only for a certain caste of people,
something that was preserved in Western Europe until the 15th-16th century.
In China, it was allowed only for the aristocracy
and the high-ranking state officials to learn their writing.
For the rest of the people, knowledge was forbidden.
And for many people who did not speak the languages and alphabets of that time,
it was destined for these people to be second-class people in a caste society.
These are people who have a much lower position in society
and never have a chance to develop and do something different for themselves.
And this is up to the moment when the Bulgarians decide to make a revolution.
Because our alphabet is actually the newest alphabet in this period,
the most perfect,
and it gives the opportunity for a very wide group of people
to expand their thinking,
to create an incredible culture,
and to continue to advance.
And exactly from this period, I will show you,
this is a phototype edition of a book,
this is a Bulgarian book,
called The Four Gospels,
and it was published by Ivan Aleksandar.
The book you see,
this book was published during the time when the Bulgarians were fighting
with the Ottoman conquerors,
fought with Byzantium,
with Serbia, with Hungary,
very difficult times,
and then to publish a book was extremely expensive.
It was more expensive than a house in Bulgaria,
it was as expensive as a palace.
A monk, in order to transcribe this book,
because then it was transmitted from person to person,
a new book was created,
only through the manual writing of a given monk,
as usual.
Such a book is made by two monks.
One draws, and the other writes,
he makes a transcription,
or creates the letters, the text,
so that all this can be preserved to this day,
but also to teach people then.
And a monk, when he wrote such a book,
for a year, he prepared himself to join the Lord,
and to have the honor to pass on the word.
Because they knew that the word,
what it does, is to make a person closer to God.
Or to make us creators.
And it is we, the Bulgarians,
we are a nation that has given the opportunity,
in today's time, of over 300 million people,
to write, to understand,
to communicate on our alphabet,
and to create miracles.
Our language has given culture,
to the Russians, to the Serbs, to the Macedonians,
to many people who, for many years,
to the Romanians,
and while our language and our alphabet are being used,
we see how many scientific discoveries,
how many miracles in the world that have happened,
have happened precisely by people who have written,
read, and developed thanks to our alphabet.
Or, on this day,
we mark the giving of light,
as there is such a legend about Prometheus,
who decided to take fire from the gods
and give it to the people,
or the first step in the creation of man,
as we know him today,
in the possession of fire.
And Prometheus, what he did,
to take fire from the gods,
to give it to the people,
and to do this thing,
even though he was sentenced to eternal torments after that,
he gave it and made people out of animals.
The second step,
the creation of people of people,
to be the way we are today,
is precisely the giving of knowledge
and the freedom of a person to define his own life.
What the ancient Bulgarians, our ancestors, did,
was to make enormous efforts
to be able to create this alphabet,
to transcribe it,
and to spread it to over 300 million people in the world today.
Why?
Because they didn't use euro funds,
they didn't expect someone from the empire to help them,
but they were the people
who went and voluntarily gave
the knowledge, the freedom of many people in the world.
And as we see,
God helped us, because later,
through where we gave it,
he managed to return to us again.
What we need to know,
is that first, we are great people,
and what we have given to 300 million people
is freedom and the opportunity
to realize their dreams.
What we need to know
is that we have given a priceless gift,
which we have,
we need to preserve it and multiply it.
What we need to do
is to have more respect for our alphabet,
to use more Bulgarian words
and to imagine what their root is,
why we need to use them,
and not to use English substitutes.
Why?
Because we communicate with English companies
or we use computers and phones
and programs that write in English.
Actually, our language is a gift.
It helps us think in a certain way.
The language itself is a computer code.
And it turns out that the language
of Bulgarians and Russians,
or in general of the people
who write in our alphabet
and speak our language,
their thought is the best
to take on a task,
to crush it,
to destroy it from the inside
or to create something
that no one else can do.
We can think on a very small level,
to break it into atomic particles
and then to model it the way we want.
Bulgarian and Russian programmers
are the most preferred
in the whole world for the most difficult tasks,
because the way of thinking,
our alphabet, our language,
our programming code,
makes us very inventive.
And everyone knows that the Bulgarians,
wherever they go,
are very inventive.
This is exactly from our code.
Or this is our language and our alphabet.
Let each of you
learn more about your alphabet.
Let more people read it.
And let's preserve it,
preserve it and continue
to pass it on to future generations.
Happy holiday to everyone
and let's preserve the Bulgarian word.
