Tess will be hanging out with me.
The girls will be hanging out with you?
Yep.
You're gonna look that good in your new glasses?
And I think the women might think I'm a lady.
They're gonna think you're a lady?
That you're all grown up with your new glasses?
It's tough.
I think you do look cool.
Nice.
Let's see, Laura.
Nice.
What do you think, Laura?
You like your new glasses?
Are yours as good as you thought?
Yep.
What are you two making for dinner?
We love these recipes because they have pictures for us.
Are they easy for you to follow?
Okay, so what are we gonna do first?
Let's take a look.
Bring pot of salt water to boil.
Cook pasta according to packets until...
Al dente?
Al dente from to the bite.
So you guys are learning some new words as well, aren't you?
Yep.
Meanwhile, grate cheddar jack and gruyere.
Eat a large hose of boxed grater set aside.
I want to thank Radish Kids for sponsoring this video.
We have been using the Radish Cooking Program for the last three years.
So when I'm saying that I think this is a great program,
it's something that we've been using for the last three years without any sponsorship.
So you're doubling this recipe.
And you need eight ounces of cheddar,
eight ounces of Monterey,
eight ounces of Swiss times two.
So eight plus eight plus eight is 16.
24 times two.
48.
So we need 48 ounces of cheese.
That's a lot.
Yeah.
Is grating cheese hard work?
Yeah.
Okay, keep going.
So you're faster than her at grating?
Yep.
Are you sure?
Yeah.
What do you think?
Is he?
Nope.
Is that why we're waiting for him?
What is the best thing about the radish recipes?
Those pictures that you can understand.
So it helps you understand the writing with the pictures?
Yep.
I really like these pictures because I can almost do it by myself.
So the radish program comes in a little box like this.
It comes once a month in the mail and it's a subscription service.
It's not a food service.
No food comes in the box.
It's just recipes that the kids can make each month.
When you get the box each month it comes with a kitchen utensil.
This month it's a flat whisk.
All the utensils have been really good quality
and the kids are building up an amazing supply of kitchen utensils.
Recipes come in this nice little file folder.
This month is gourmet gobble.
When you open it up it comes with a little patch
that can be ironed onto their apron once they've completed it.
When you open up the file folder you get a shopping list which is ideal.
We will take these shopping lists.
The kids will go through and see what we have at home
and then they'll take this card to the grocery store
and we will practice their life skills learning how to shop based on this.
Following through and making sure that they have all the ingredients before they start.
They'll get three recipes every month and they are plastic laminated.
They open up and they have visuals here.
Visuals of what ingredients you need.
Visuals of what tools and visuals on the step-by-step directions.
There's written words and pictures to help with the kids
that aren't quite at a reading level where they can follow the instructions.
And what was the special word it said for how much it has to cook?
Do you remember?
So Jacob do you remember the word that it says?
How much to cook?
And that means that it's firm to bite.
One thing I like about these recipes is it gives you substitutions.
So we don't have all the cheese that it suggested
but it tells you different types that you can use that we had on hand.
Make a roux.
So that's our culinary term that we're learning this time.
Melt butter over medium heat and flour cook three minutes with constantly.
I really like the fact that they're teaching them the culinary skills
so when they move on to other recipes they have learned a lot of the basics.
Even things that a lot of adults haven't learned how to do.
Okay so we're going to need a whisk.
Do you know what a whisk is?
No.
Yep.
Get us one.
A whisk is this.
Savannah your noodles are boiling now
so we're going to have to pay attention because that means they're going to be al dente soon.
Look at it pop.
Oh your butter's starting to melt.
Yep.
Once it melts you have to add the what are you going to...
Sugar.
We're not adding sugar we're adding flour.
Flour.
So when you mix butter and flour together it makes it so that it's a thickening agent
so it'll make your cheese sauce thicker.
It's all mixed in.
Yep.
Good.
Nice.
How much milk did you need?
Eight cups.
Eight cups?
Whoa.
We added a little bit of milk.
Gotta get it all mixed in really well.
Jacob do you know this is the same way that you would make gravy?
So you could make a roux to make gravy
or for other types of pasta dishes any dish where you want to have a thickened sauce
so maybe soup you could do it with this method.
What would you make using this method?
Mac and cheese and gravy.
That's what you would use it for?
Yep.
So we're going to keep stirring this slowly
and we're going to know and we're going to know it's ready
when it coats the back of the spoon so that when you take the spoon out
there's still sauce on there and we need to stir it calmly so we're not making waves
or splashes because if it splashed on us that would hurt because it would burn us.
Yeah.
And I might cry really really loud.
Yep.
Do you think they're good cooks?
Yes.
I want to smell it.
Yeah.
I want to smell it.
Smells delicious?
Okay it's hot Darren please be careful.
Yeah I know.
That one's empty.
I eat that one?
You can smell that.
And you can smell the cheese.
Can you see it starting to stick on the sides a little bit?
Yep.
Okay so that means it's getting closer but we don't want to rush it
otherwise it won't thicken up and we'll have macaroni soup.
Yeah.
So Radish is having an amazing Black Friday sale so if you're interested
if you are buying a six month subscription you will get one month for free
and if you buy a 12 month subscription you're going to get two months for free.
So if you're interested check out the link in my description.
Is this good?
I don't think you quite filled that up.
What do you think?
Well if we don't measure properly then that affects our recipe
and it doesn't turn out right.
Next we need to melt the cheese in here.
Okay so I'm going to put in a bit at a time.
You're going to keep stirring.
This is what?
Olive oil, parmesan and bread.
And breadcrumbs?
Yeah.
This is going to be the topping for your macaroni and cheese?
Yeah.
Do you like cooking with radish recipes?
Yeah.
Why do you like to cook with radish recipes?
Because it's like fun to do.
It's really nice to make dinner for people that don't want to make dinner.
That's true.
It's really nice when you make dinner and I don't have to.
Looks delicious Savannah.
Yeah.
Do you think it's ready for the oven?
Yep.
I can't wait for dinner.
Nadine did you have to fight the girls off at the store with your new glasses?
Because you look so good.
No.
Well isn't that what you thought?
Yeah.
That all the girls were going to be after you?
Has it been hard going outside?
Have they been chasing you?
No.
Not yet?
Not yet.
So Laura what do you think of your new glasses?
Good.
I think they look really good and I really like the color of them.
You actually got two pairs didn't you?
Yeah.
So people will have to wait and see the other pair a different day.
Who's winning?
I don't know.
Are you winning?
Yeah it's just me playing.
It's just you playing and you don't know if you're winning?
Yeah.
Silly girl.
So I'm building a shelf.
What are you gonna put on your shelf?
Some toys to play.
Oh that's cheesy.
Is that enough for you?
Can somebody help Darren with his?
Yeah.
Okay Darren go to the table.
Jake's gonna do this for you okay?
It's good.
Did you do a good job?
Yeah.
Delicious.
Do you think you should make it again?
Yeah.
