But I have to say, I came across a lot of players, played with a lot of players.
Saw a lot of players play against some of the greatest.
I think Kevin, his brain is the best that I've seen.
Brain, we're not talking about the way he sees the game.
And this is why we were talking about it a bit before.
Because his brain is in some places, I don't know what he thinks about sometimes.
You look at him and it's almost like he's not with us.
If you know what I mean, because he's that good.
And sometimes it can be a problem because you're not on his level.
But I think he's the most clever player I've seen in my life.
We're talking about the brain.
It's just second to none the way he thinks.
So I would have to say Kevin De Bruyne, to be honest.
Like I said, he was a young boy.
Didn't really get his chance at Chelsea.
Like I said, you can't judge him on four or five games playing here and there.
And I say, what he's doing today in the Premier League.
If he consistently does this for the next four or five years,
he could be up there with the greats, couldn't he?
Yes, I certainly think so.
I think we're looking at a Premier League great.
I think we'd be saying that at the end of his career.
I mean, I was looking at his performance today, but it's just out loud.
I mean, I was looking at him thinking, who's he like?
I was actually thinking Glen Oddle.
You know, what he can do off his left foot, what he can do off his right foot.
So is it Glen Oddle with legs who can run and still make challenges?
I think we're looking at a Premier League all-time great here by the time he's finished.
Kevin O'Brien has taken a lot of the plaudits this season for City,
and deservedly so, in your opinion.
Yes, he looks so comfortable, very, very gifted.
And those passes, slide rule passes that he plays in behind the defence
or the crosses that he's whipping in, just sensational.
I can see when you talk about this, you'd like to have been the centre-forward in this current season.
Well, as I said, for a forward to be playing on this Manchester City side, it's just goals.
Kevin is one of the best players I've ever seen in my life.
In terms of, he can make absolutely everything.
Everything.
He's a top, top quality player.
So, we are so proud.
We are so proud and so happy he is with us.
Some of De Bruyne's passes, you could almost have a team of engineers out there for an hour
looking at the angles that he's producing in a split second.
He can find gaps and openings that just don't exist.
He really is amazing.
How good is he becoming?
I mean, he's starting to nudge towards that world-class conversation.
The closest I can compare him to is Steven Gerrard.
I had that link with Gerrard, let's say, right the way through my career.
In the early stages, just a sixth sense.
He just seems to pick up any centre-forward.
He's just on a page with them straight away.
It must be an absolute dream to play alongside him.
Let's speak to the man who managed Steven Gerrard.
Can you see similarities in the way they play Rafa?
It's interesting what Michael is saying because it's true.
So, we have Gerrard.
He could play, in my time, a few weeks, with Torres.
But he's right.
He was playing with him all the time.
And he said something, De Bruyne said, about players making the run.
So, they have to run.
And he knows that they will run.
And also, he has the ability, the pace.
So, I think the coordination between the striker and the playmaker is crucial.
You have this with Gerrard.
And he has a lot of similarities.
I think Gerrard was more powerful in his game.
But in terms of the final pass, yes, very similar.
Some of the best players in the world.
Griezmann, for me, probably one of the most underrated players we've seen in the last five years.
But Kevin De Bruyne is going to go down as an all-time great in the Premier League.
And for me, I always say, because I've got nothing else more to say about him, really.
Because I can't think of any better things to say.
But he's in an all-time Premier League level.
When you think of the greatest Premier League foreign players, or any players that play in the Premier League.
And we always use the same names.
You go back to, sort of, Cantona, Zola, Bergkamp.
Those three players I've just mentioned are absolutely legendary figures in the Premier League.
And at their clubs.
He's better than all three of them.
Kevin is the most important player.
Can you even explain how he thinks, or what he sees, or how he is as a player?
Because I struggle at times.
Because it's very difficult to understand a genius.
Me too.
And we're not stupid, right?
No, me too.
So, why?
He's a special person.
So sensitive, and he's reliable in many things.
So, if we had done this season, many years, without him, it would be almost impossible.
What's your opinion about Kevin?
One, he's got this thing which is, of course, very Belgian.
He's humble.
And that makes him likeable.
But the thing as well is football brain.
And I've always said it.
I think he would say it himself.
But you give Kevin a team with a plan, and he will be directing the orchestra.
And you've got other players like Hazard is a good comparison.
He doesn't need a plan.
Put him on the pitch.
He's the plan, yeah.
Yeah, he is the plan.
It's good.
But Kevin sees the plan.
He closes his eyes, and then he receives the ball, and he executes.
And he knows before he gets the ball what he's going to do.
You just have to run and get there.
And that's very special.
There's a big part of his game that you don't see.
And that is even more special than what he offers when he has the ball.
He is magnificent to watch.
Everything about him, the way he strikes the ball, the way his game understanding is so skillful and silky.
He's just a wonderful player, Roy, isn't he?
Brilliant.
And what he does, like all top midfielders, he affects the game in terms of assists, goals, running power.
And he always looks like he's in control.
I spent half my career fighting with the ball.
But he always looks like he knows what he's doing.
He's got a great vision.
And we take him for granted.
Even to the end of what we saw today, I just automatically expect that from him.
That's the sign of a top player.
And a key as well.
He's consistent.
He does it week in week out.
Brilliant.
He's playing like a superstar.
Kevin De Bruyne, maybe on the actual naked eye, he might not be quite a Messi or a Neymar.
You don't see all of them.
I'm saying that as he does that.
You don't see 100 stepovers all the time.
What you see is an amazing receiving of every ball.
Look how he swivels and gets it in his path and gets it away.
Everything's on a plate for himself because of his first touch.
All his decisions are right.
I think De Bruyne, I've just said one of the best players.
I think if you were picking an all-time Premier League XI, I think he gets in.
And I think of the players City have had going back to Mancini's time.
You think of that Spaniard of sort of company.
Torre, Aguero, Silva was there.
He's above them all.
That's just game knowledge.
Knowing where the guy in front of him is.
Knowing where the goalkeeper is, unsighted.
That's why he's great.
He is one of the best players we've ever seen.
You know something?
He could probably go down.
He's right in there with the best now.
You see the reaction from the other players as well.
Even at the end of the game or the goal.
You can see with them when they're doing the celebrations.
Obviously, they're not a big result.
But they're looking at him and going, we are as brilliant as they are.
He's great.
Where is Kevin De Bruyne in the best midfielders in Premier League history?
When it's all said and done, when he's finished,
his cabinet's going to be bulging.
He's going to probably be in and around the top assist maker.
He might just be behind Ryan Giggs,
but he'll be top of the list of players that we spoke about
in terms of the best midfielders in the game scene in the Premier League.
The Lampards, the Gerrards, the Scholes, the Torres, etc.
He's up there.
Rio, I'll say it because Steve probably won't.
He'll struggle to say it.
He'll be number one.
Because as it goes, when it comes to goals and assists,
his ratio is better than Gerrard, Scholes.
Only Lampard with goals, of course.
But besides that, there's nothing that...
And I think Scholes is top of the tree.
And there's nothing that KDB...
There's nothing that Scholes can do that KDB can't do.
And I'm telling you, he's going to be number one.
I think if he carries on what he's doing now...
He's going to be number one.
I think he's got an unbelievable argument to be the best.
Being an absolute star of the Premier League,
he is beautiful to watch.
There are not many players that you would change everything to see.
I love watching him.
I love the way he kicks a football.
I love the way he moves.
I love the fact that he looks like a normal bloke.
And he's an extraordinary footballer.
He is beautiful to watch.
And his movement's lovely.
And it's all effortless.
He's a bit like...
I described him as the Federer of football once.
Because when you watch Federer play, it always looks so easy.
Even though he's trying really hard to win,
you don't sense that.
And the same with De Bruyne.
It all just looks so effortless.
And I think he's in the conversation of...
Probably he's in the top five for me, top three probably,
of the best midfielders the Premier League's ever seen.
You know when sometimes they say you play in midfield
and a runner will make a pass.
You see someone make a run, so you make the pass.
I think he makes the pass make the run.
He's almost like, go on.
That's where you should be.
And I just think, because City is so well drilled,
he just steps back in.
It's like he's never been away.
He knows the ball inside out.
And I think it's just such a joy to kind of be able to watch him.
At the moment, we're very lucky that he's in the league.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's great to see him back.
Yeah, and what we've always said about him,
he makes the game look so easy.
That's a sign of a good player.
He's never fighting with the ball.
It's always under control.
He's obviously always got a picture in his mindset,
what he's going to do next.
So when we watch De Bruyne play like that,
it doesn't surprise me.
This is what we expect from him week in, week out.
I think the only frustrating thing for City
is how they've ended up losing eight league games this season
with the quality they have.
But De Bruyne, listen, he's up there with the best players in the world.
And City are lucky to have him.
Brilliant player.
Looks like he loves the game.
He enjoys it.
And it must be a joy to play with him.
I think this is a message to all our fans.
Don't take for granted watching Kevin De Bruyne play.
I think for me he's the most incredible playmaker in world football
at this present time.
His way of seeing the game,
the way to understand the time and the space,
and then the execution in front of goal.
He's been doing that consistently.
So, yeah, sometimes I look at him
and we're so, so lucky to have a player like Kevin.
This is one of the best players in world football.
I'm sure he would be looking at himself thinking,
I was nowhere near my standard.
But he's put that together.
Because he makes that look effortless though.
Because he's comforting.
Yeah, I mean, the cross he put in,
in the first half for Nathan Atkins,
he's like 30 yards away.
If he overhits it slightly,
the second defender's then going to get his head on it.
It's just, I don't think I've ever seen a player
with a right foot in that position.
And the one who comes to mind is Steven Gerrard,
or a Becker maybe.
But he produces every single time on the money.
And then Nathan actually doesn't score.
He gives an audition in the second half,
he doesn't score.
You know, it just, he never misses.
How on earth do you coach someone like Kevin
and improve him?
I'm sorry for my Steven Gerrard,
but his record will be beaten.
I'm sorry, sooner or later.
And with this amount of less games.
And it's good, I'm pretty sure Gerrard
will be happy if someone beat his record
from a player like Kevin.
The king is back, that's what it is.
