Brian talks about his experience with casual drug use, testing positive for HIV and eventually recovering from addiction while getting treatment for HIV.
My name is Brian. I am from Baltimore. I currently live in Los Angeles.
A lot of my story starts early, like I've always been a casual drug user,
and most of my early 20s were kind of sprinkled with lots of different addictions and things
like that. I have been seeking a recovery since about 2015, a little bit after I was
At the time, I didn't have health insurance. I was, you know, like struggling with housing
and addiction. And I can't say that like being diagnosed HIV positive saved my life,
but it definitely was a factor that brought me back to life and gave me this reason to change.
So shortly after I was diagnosed HIV positive, I got sober and then I went to nursing school.
When I show my self-love, I show my community love.
