Hello, everyone who came to my Korean podcast. Nice to meet you.
Did you all have a good week last week?
I'm going to take a plane in 4 hours.
I'm going to take a plane and go on a trip to Japan.
By the time this podcast is uploaded, I'll probably be in Japan.
I'm so excited right now.
I'm going to finish the podcast quickly.
I'm going to go to the airport now.
When I travel abroad, food is important.
I want to go to a place where the food is delicious.
Don't you think so?
I'm going to a foreign country, and I'm not looking forward to the food there.
Then I'm not looking forward to the whole trip.
Am I the only one?
I don't eat a lot of food.
But I like delicious food.
Those things are important.
So I've been thinking about what to eat on this trip to Japan.
When I travel abroad like this,
Of course, I'm curious about the famous food in that country.
I was especially curious about this.
What is the food that people living here eat every day, eat at home, and eat often?
I've always been curious about this.
So I've been working in the U.S. for about two months on a school program.
There was an American colleague I met there.
He once invited me to his house.
He invited me to his house and asked,
Didi, is there anything you want to eat?
I was invited in the morning.
So what I said was,
I'm curious about American breakfast.
Americans really want to eat a traditional breakfast.
Didi, what kind of food do you want to eat?
There's a lot more delicious food.
He was amazed.
And he made me a really delicious American breakfast.
What was it?
Fried eggs, bread, cheese, and bacon.
It's bacon, but it's really crispy.
I ate a hard-boiled meal that made a crispy sound.
In a way, it's a very ordinary food.
I eat it like this in Korea, but it's definitely different.
What was different?
The cheese they eat is a bit like brie cheese.
I don't know exactly what it is, but it's like Tom and Jerry.
If you think about the cartoon,
It's like raw rats eating cheese.
That's what I think.
It's like a piece of pizza that rats eat.
They spread that kind of cheese on the bread.
This was also very new to me.
It was amazing.
Because in Korea, when you say cheese,
The first thing that comes to mind is mozzarella cheese.
The cheese that stretches when you eat it like this.
That's the first thing that comes to mind.
If it's not that, slice cheese.
The slice cheese that goes into the hamburger.
It's the first thing that comes to mind.
But the cheese they gave me at the American Breakfast was unique.
It was delicious.
So even if it's a small difference,
It's amazing to see these differences.
These people are eating this.
That's what I thought.
I can understand a little more about that country.
That's how I feel.
I'm a traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I was curious about the meals.
That's how I got to talk about this topic.
Yes, that's right.
This topic is what Koreans eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
How about you?
Are you curious?
I don't know if you're the same as me, or I don't care how you eat it.
I don't know if you're curious.
For those of you who are curious like me,
Today, I'm going to talk about what Koreans eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I'm going to try to make it light.
Yes, then please enjoy it.
Yes, first of all, as you all know,
There are so many different people.
There will be people who eat breakfast.
There will be people who don't eat.
There will be people who eat a lot of dinner.
There will be people who eat a lot of lunch.
Everyone's life pattern is different.
Eating habits are different.
I think it would be nice if you could listen to the podcast while knowing that.
When I think about what Koreans eat for breakfast,
I've organized the things that come to mind.
You just eat this kind of thing.
I think it would be nice if you could just listen to it lightly like this.
First of all, in Korea, when we talk about rice,
Did you just have breakfast?
Or did you have breakfast?
It's a little weird to say this.
Did you have breakfast?
You can ask like this.
Usually, you just say, Did you have breakfast?
Did you have lunch?
Did you have dinner?
You can talk without the words like meal and rice.
Then I'll start with breakfast.
Breakfast!
These are the things that come to mind when you say a traditional Korean breakfast.
First of all, it's not a simple one.
Rice!
We need rice.
Rice, rice, rice.
We need one rice.
And next to it, soup!
We put the soup.
There will be a variety of soups.
You can eat seaweed soup.
There's a variety.
Bean sprout soup, egg soup.
It's very diverse.
Or if it's not soup, it's stew.
It's like a big soup.
It's a little bit more salty.
It's called stew.
Soybean paste stew.
Kimchi stew.
We eat things like this.
And then, if you just eat this rice soup,
It may be a little undernourished.
We eat other side dishes together.
One or two vegetable side dishes.
And protein side dishes.
Protein protein.
One protein side dish.
We eat meat, eggs, or fish.
We eat a very healthy meal.
This is what Koreans usually think of when they think of a meal.
Rice, soup, and three side dishes.
Koreans eat like this.
In Korea, breakfast is important.
I've heard that a lot since a long time ago.
Actually, I don't eat breakfast.
When I was young, I didn't eat breakfast.
It doesn't taste good.
So I don't eat breakfast.
Every time I do that,
My friends and family.
You have to eat breakfast.
You have to eat breakfast well.
I've heard a lot of stories like this.
So I'm really curious.
I don't want to eat breakfast like this.
Do I really have to eat?
I've always been curious about these things.
Breakfast is important in your country, too.
What do you think?
That's true.
In the morning, you have to eat rice.
There are quite a few people who think like this.
There are quite a few.
This is because of the traditional thinking of Korea.
I think there are still people who think like that.
When I was young, my mother.
You have to eat like this.
Rice, soup, and three side dishes.
You made me such a wonderful meal every day.
So to my mom now.
Mom, how did you make that every day?
Wasn't it hard?
If you ask me like this,
My mother says this.
It was hard.
I used to think that was right.
If you don't do that,
I thought I was going to be a bad mom.
That's what she said.
You have to make breakfast like this.
She's a good mom.
To the point where you think like this.
I think it's important to eat breakfast well.
There is such a traditional thought.
The reason for this is that there are various reasons.
That's the big reason.
In the old days, in Korea,
There were a lot of people who had to work with their bodies.
Physical labor.
People who work with their bodies.
There are a lot of people who have to do physical labor.
How hard is it to work with your body?
I get hungry quickly.
I use a lot of energy.
So you have to eat a lot of breakfast.
That's what she thought.
And you have to eat well-nourished food.
You can work hard for lunch and dinner.
That's what I thought.
She said she ate breakfast well.
It's still...
I have to eat breakfast.
I grew up listening to these words.
You have to eat breakfast.
If you don't eat breakfast, you're not healthy.
I think there are still a lot of people who think like this.
In Korea, not only breakfast.
Rice.
You have to eat this white rice to be healthy.
There are a lot of people who think like this.
I don't really like rice.
I was stressed out when I was told to eat rice.
I looked up a lot of things about rice.
Korean and rice.
With these two words,
I think there are a lot of things to talk about rice.
And one more thing.
There are some foods that I don't think I'll eat in the morning.
That's what it's like.
Heavy food.
There's a lot of oil.
And too salty or too spicy.
If you eat those things in the morning,
You might have a stomachache.
So pork belly.
Spicy food.
Very spicy tteokbokki.
There are a lot of people who don't eat these things in the morning.
That was the story about breakfast.
Next is lunch.
What do you eat for lunch?
You don't usually eat lunch at home, do you?
If you're a student, you eat at school.
If you're a worker, you eat at work.
You'll eat at work or somewhere.
So when I think of lunch in Korea,
The first thing that comes to mind is school lunch.
Do you know school lunch, everyone?
School lunch.
School lunch is the food you get at school.
School lunch is really good in Korea.
It's pretty cool.
Korean school lunch.
What's cool is that
There's a person called a nutritionist at a Korean school.
Nutritionist.
A nutritionist is a person who has a mission to see how nutritious the food the students eat is.
So I'm a person who makes a menu by checking if the nutrients are evenly distributed in the food the students eat for lunch.
You know what nutrients are, right?
Vitamins, proteins, calcium.
There's a nutritionist who's got to have all of these things in there.
So, of course, they take care of carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins.
They take care of these things, but they also check how salty the rice is and how sweet it is.
Isn't that amazing?
Thinking about nutrition, thinking about taste, thinking about health, of course.
I think about this, too.
What do students like these days?
These days, students like malatang.
Then I'll make malatang for lunch.
Oh, these days, students like spicy chicken noodles.
They like spicy food.
Then I'll make spicy chicken noodles.
There's a person who's thinking about this.
Nutritionists make a menu that you can eat for a month.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
They make a menu calendar for a month.
Then, it comes out in a piece of paper.
They divide it up for all the students.
Then the students can know what's coming out today, what's coming out tomorrow.
So I can see another fun thing.
Students get a menu pan.
Did you call it a menu?
It was called a diet chart.
When you get the diet chart,
There is one thing that students do when they get a calendar.
What they do is, they take out a highlighter pen.
A highlighter pen.
A highlighter pen is a highlighter.
They take out a highlighter pen and color what they want to emphasize.
What do you think they do with this pen?
That's right. They check all the delicious food on the calendar.
They check all the delicious food on the calendar.
And when they are bored during class,
they take out a highlighter pen and check what they want to emphasize.
So I have a lot of memories about school meals.
It's hard when you go to school.
You get tired when you study.
I think school meals are the most anticipated time.
The most anticipated time.
When I was in school, I had school meals for about 12 years.
Elementary school, middle school, and high school all had school meals.
So it was natural like a routine.
It was natural to eat nutritious food.
Now that I think about it, I know how thankful and good school meals were.
Now that I'm an office worker, I don't wait for lunch.
Of course, there are people who wait for lunch.
I went to work yesterday.
The lunch time at work usually starts from 12 to 12.30.
There's about an hour of lunch.
About 30 minutes before lunch,
my colleagues and I talk.
What should I eat for lunch today?
Every time I talk about this, the reaction is,
What should I eat?
It's annoying.
It's annoying to eat.
That's what we talk about.
Because you have to think about the menu yourself.
What should I eat today?
Should I eat this? Should I eat that?
It's hard to think about it like this.
This is hard.
And if you think hard about it and buy it outside, it's expensive.
It's expensive to buy food outside.
And it's not that nutritious.
It's not nutritious.
Because it's that time.
Just like when I was in school,
I want someone to make me lunch.
I always think about that.
Should I just go eat pork cutlet today?
So I went to eat pork cutlet yesterday.
Lunch is what I want to eat.
I think I eat everything.
Most of the time, lunch time is set to an hour or an hour and a half.
If it's not food that you eat for a long time,
I think I eat a lot of different foods.
Tteokbokki, rice soup, hamburger, kimbap.
I eat a variety of things like this.
And I wanted to tell you one more thing.
There's a restaurant that office workers go to a lot during lunch time.
Do you know?
Where do Koreans go?
The places that office workers go to often are
Knight's Restaurant,
Baekbanjip, Korean buffet.
There are places like this.
What kind of food can you eat in a place like this?
Korean home meal.
You know the menu I talked about for breakfast?
Rice, soup, side dishes.
When I want to eat home meal,
I go to Knight's Restaurant, Baekbanjip, and Korean buffet.
When you come to Korea,
I'm sure there's something you must eat.
Bulgogi, rice soup, beef tartare bibimbap.
There's a set menu.
If you're curious about the Korean home meal,
Go to Knight's Restaurant, Korean buffet.
If you search on Google Map, you'll probably find it.
These restaurants are clean and pretty.
But if you go to your grandmother's house,
It's a place where you can feel like you've been to your grandmother's house.
If you have the courage to try Korean home meal,
I think you should go.
When I was a student, I rarely went to places like this.
It's hard to eat alone.
I want to eat nutritious food.
I go there once in a while.
It's okay. It's pretty good.
You can eat cheap and nutritious food.
That was lunch.
Now, let's talk about dinner.
There's not much to talk about for dinner.
Just eat what you want to eat.
People who are on a diet may not eat.
If you're having a hard time today, you can go for a drink.
But usually, I think I eat a lot of dinner.
So I eat a lot of dinner.
I eat a lot of rice, meat, and alcohol.
And I have a lot of appointments with my friends.
I have a lot of appointments with my colleagues.
It's often in the evening.
I think there are a lot of people who drink.
Koreans who like to drink.
There are a lot of people who drink while eating.
Soju and rice.
I often eat like this.
Let's go for a drink.
It doesn't mean let's go for a drink.
Let's have dinner and drink together.
That's what it means.
And the food I don't eat for dinner.
Bread, toast, sandwich.
I think there are a lot of Koreans who don't eat breakfast or lunch.
I think there are a lot of Koreans who don't eat bread or toast.
Meat, pork belly, tripe.
Pork ribs are delicious.
I eat pizza and pasta.
I eat a lot of what I want to eat.
Let's move on to dinner.
There's one more thing I want to talk about as a bonus.
It's a late-night snack.
What is a late-night snack?
It's a late-night snack that you eat after 9 p.m.
9, 10, 11.
I was so hungry before I went to bed.
I ate too little dinner today.
I'm hungry at 11 p.m.
It's a late-night snack to eat at this time.
Is there anything special to eat as a late-night snack?
I'm sure some of you are thinking like this.
I talked a lot about Korean delivery.
If you go into the delivery app,
There are various categories.
For example, Japanese food.
Sushi, ramen.
Chinese food.
Jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, tangsuyuk.
Mala xiang guo.
Chinese food.
Chicken.
Korean food.
Hamburger.
Dessert.
Among them,
There is a late-night snack category in the Korean delivery app.
Aren't you curious about what's in the late-night snack category?
There's something like this.
Usually, there are a lot of spicy foods.
This is also quite interesting.
Why is it a spicy food?
People who eat something at night
I'm sure there are a lot of people who are stressed.
So if you eat spicy food,
It has the effect of relieving stress.
And when you eat at night,
Usually beer or soju.
There are a lot of people who eat together.
So Koreans like the combination of alcohol and spicy food.
I think that's why.
So if you look at it,
Do you know chicken feet?
It's chicken feet.
It's chicken foot.
There's a food that cooks chicken feet very spicy.
Or stir-fried tripe.
This is also a spicy dish.
There's sashimi.
Or takoyaki?
Takoyaki is also in the late-night snack category.
I think it's because it's easy to eat.
Actually, I eat everything I want for late-night snacks.
If you want to eat pizza, eat pizza.
If you want to eat chicken, eat chicken.
But there's a late-night snack category in Korean delivery apps.
It's quite common to eat late-night snacks in Korea.
In some countries,
I think there are countries that don't eat late-night snacks.
So I added it.
How is it, everyone?
There's nothing special about Korean breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
But I'm sure there's something different compared to your country.
I think it'd be nice if you knew a little bit more about the new facts.
I think I'd be happy if there was something fun.
If there's anything different about your country's breakfast, lunch, and dinner,
Please let me know in the comments.
Even if you think it's similar, please let me know in the comments.
So far, it was about Korean breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I'll read you a story today.
It's today's story corner.
Hero's Rock
Hero's Rock is one of the things that happen in your daily life.
Sad, joy, and happiness.
I'd like to pick one of these four themes and share it.
The person who sent today's story is Nickname Jody.
The land I live in is the United States.
Jody sent it as a theme of sadness.
Jordan.
Hello! While learning Korean, I made a lot of good memories that I didn't expect to make.
I met a lot of friends who live in other countries, and I went abroad alone for the first time to go to a language school.
Thanks to studying Korean, I had a lot of good opportunities, and I will be really grateful forever.
But while studying Korean, I felt sad. So today, I'm going to share my sad story with this story.
Two years ago, after graduating from college, I went to Korea for the first time.
I went to a language school in Korea for a month and decided to travel the rest of the time.
I had a lot of fun at the language school, and at the end of the program, I met a Japanese friend in the same language school.
Until then, most of the friends I met were Americans, so I only spoke English during class.
This Japanese friend couldn't speak English well, so whenever we talked, we had to speak in Korean.
At that time, I couldn't speak Korean well, but I tried really hard to communicate with him.
After that, I got close to this friend very quickly.
After finishing the language school, I lived in the same dormitory as this friend, and we went to Busan together for 2 nights and 3 days.
While looking at the night sea of Busan, we took pictures, drank alcohol, and talked about fun, sad, and secret stories until 2 a.m.
And this friend was a student abroad, so I had to move to an apartment.
After going to Seoul together, I helped him move his heavy luggage.
Strangely, it's only been two weeks since I met him, but he seemed like a friend I've known for a long time.
The day I went back to the U.S., I met this friend and went to a cafe together.
It would have been nice if I had a really good time that day, but I suddenly choked up while drinking coffee at the cafe.
It was a shame that the trip was over, but I realized that I couldn't see this friend anymore.
So we took the last picture of my life, and he took me to the airport.
I couldn't sleep for 11 hours on the plane, so I quietly looked at the pictures I took in Korea.
Honestly, the reason I kept learning Korean after coming back to the U.S. was to keep communicating with him.
But as time went by, our calls became less and less, and one day we lost contact.
At that time, I thought it was so unfair, and sometimes I cried a lot when I couldn't sleep at dawn.
I wanted to be close to this friend, but one day I decided to give up that wish.
We had no choice but to admit that we were living in a different country and walking on different paths.
I was so sad to say goodbye to this friend, but I am very, very grateful to this friend.
Thanks to this friend, I started speaking Korean, and after returning home, I even took Korean lessons.
So if you happen to hear this story, I hope you just live well and be happy.
Yes, that was the story.
I think I got a close feeling like a friend who came to Korea and met a Japanese friend who met at a language school.
It hasn't been long, but I think I got a close feeling like a friend who I've known for a long time.
How about you? Have you ever felt sad when you were away from your friends?
I don't have much, but I used to live in Daegu.
I lived in Daegu, which is a little far from Seoul.
Since I was a kid, I had a friend who was really close to me.
I lived on the third floor of the apartment, and he lived on the 10th or 15th floor of the apartment.
The apartment was the same, the school was the same, and the class was the same.
I had a friend who was very, very close to me.
When I moved to Seoul, I said,
Even if we're apart, let's keep in touch.
We've been living in different areas and different lives, and in the end, we're out of touch.
I was so busy at the time, and I was so busy adapting.
I don't think I felt this much sadness, but I'm sure I'm sorry.
If we had been close, we would have made a lot of memories together.
In the end, I think it's a great luck to have met this kind of relationship.
It's not easy to meet someone you haven't met in a long time, but you feel close to.
I'm sure there are people who can't meet at all.
That's why I met a friend like this.
I think it would be nice to think of it as a very good memory.
And we're not in a very bad relationship.
Someday, when you go to Japan or when you come to the U.S.,
I think it would be nice to meet you again and talk to you.
I think it would be fun to see how we've changed.
It's not like I have to meet you, but I hope to meet you again someday and talk to you.
Thank you for your story today.
Yes, it's time to wrap up the podcast today.
Did you enjoy this podcast?
Actually, I was very busy ahead of my trip to Japan.
It's not good to say that I'm busy because everyone is busy.
I was so busy.
I woke up at 7 a.m. yesterday, went to work, went to the academy, and came back at 1 a.m.
I was very busy, but I'm filming a podcast in a hurry before I go to the airport.
Actually, I thought, shouldn't I just upload a podcast when I travel?
But I didn't give up because my goal is to upload a podcast every week this year.
When I tell my friends that I'm busy, I say,
But no one told you to make a podcast, right?
That's what I heard.
So when I heard it, I thought,
I think I'm the only one who's working hard.
But I'm grateful that I can do my best to do something that no one asked me to do.
I'm sure no one asked you to study Korean.
I'm sure it's not what I asked you to do.
But I think it's a great thing to be able to do something exciting, hard, and fun.
I think it's a good thing to have such a heart-throbbing thing.
I think there's a TOEIC test when this podcast goes up.
If you study like this, your skills don't improve well, and your test grades don't come out well.
At times like this, I think it's natural to be tired.
Still, I'm grateful that there's something fun that no one asked me to do.
I thought it would be nice if you could think about it and have a good day.
Thank you for listening to today's podcast.
I'm always receiving your stories.
Please click on the Google Form link in the description and apply for your story.
I'll be back next week with a podcast and a live show if possible.
Thank you, everyone.
Have a good day and a good night.
Bye.
