Hello, from the memory of Ginko, I welcome you.
A window on traditional Chinese culture.
Ancient stories and their profound wisdom
to offer inspiration to both children and adults.
An invitation for a journey towards authenticity, goodness and tolerance.
A story about Confucius.
Zhang Zhejiao observed.
You have studied with him for decades.
Why do you say that you do not know him well?
Zhe Gong replied.
If someone is thirsty, he goes to the river and drinks water.
He can only drink as much as he can,
but he does not know the river entirely.
Confucius is like a great river.
Another time, King Jing Gongqi also asked Zhe Gong,
Who is your teacher?
Zhe Gong replied, Confucius.
Jing Gongqi then asked, Is he virtuous?
Zhe Gong replied, Yes.
Jing Gong continued, Virtuous to what extent?
Zhe Gong replied, I do not know.
Jing Gong then said,
You know that Confucius is virtuous,
but you do not know how virtuous he is.
You have a problem.
Zhe Gong explained,
Adults and children, wise men and madmen,
all know that the sky is high,
but no one knows how high it is.
It is in this sense that I do not know
how virtuous Confucius is.
Zhe Xia, a disciple of Confucius,
asked him one day,
What kind of man is Yang Hui?
Confucius replied,
He is more just than me.
Zhe Xia then asked,
What kind of man is Zhe Gong?
Confucius then said,
More eloquent than me.
Zhe Xia continued,
What kind of man is Zhe Lu?
Confucius replied,
More courageous than me.
Zhe Xia asked,
And Zhe Chang?
Confucius continued,
More worthy than me.
Having heard this,
Zhe Xia was confused.
He got up and said,
They are all your disciples,
but you say they are better than you.
So why do they want to be your disciples?
Confucius laughed and said,
Sit down, I will explain.
Yang Hui is straight,
but he is not very flexible.
Zhe Gong is eloquent,
but he lacks humility.
Zhe Lu is courageous,
but he does not know how to compromise.
Zhe Chang is worthy,
but he does not know how to get along with others.
They all have their qualities and their flaws.
However,
I have all the qualities they do not have,
and I know how to use them effectively.
This is why they want to learn from me.
From the memory of Ginko,
thank you for listening to this podcast.
It is a pleasure to meet you for other stories.
