Hey ADHD Bestie! Welcome to my channel. This is a space where we talk all about life with ADHD,
the highs, the lows, and everything in between. If you have ADHD or know someone who does,
you're in the right place because there's no judgment here. I'm here for you. I'm listening.
I got you. I understand. What you're looking at is some of the things that I have bought recently
for fall decor. And as you can see by the title, impulse spending is a real thing with ADHD.
And we're going to talk about it because I know a lot of us can relate. And let me tell you,
I have a real life example and you're going to be just seeing it all through this video.
Last year I decided I was going to simplify my life. I got rid of most of my fall decorations
thinking, oh this is it. I'm done with clutter. Next year I'll be minimal. I'm going to be
intentional and super chill. Well, fast forward to this year. I went all out again on fall decor.
I overspent. I got caught up in the excitement. And suddenly I had the urge to make my space
cozy, festive, homey. It's almost like last year didn't even happen.
Impulse spending is so real when you have ADHD. And this is something I really struggle with.
Our brains are wired to chase the dopamine rush. And let's be honest, buying something new
definitely gives us that hit. But what starts as just a little shopping can turn into,
oh wow, I didn't realize I spent that much. And now here we are. So I thought, why not use my
experience to talk about some ways that we can handle or get a handle on this impulse spending,
especially with Christmas coming up, any holiday. So I'm going to give you a few tips that I'm
working on to help rein in those impulse buys. Tip number one, set a budget beforehand. This
one is huge. Before you even start shopping, set a clear budget for yourself. Write it down
or keep it in your phone so you can check yourself if you're tempted to go over.
Tip two, wait 24 hours before making that purchase. I know waiting's hard, especially
when you have ADHD, but give yourself 24 hours to really think about whether you need something.
And that can really save you from buying things that aren't really important and, you know, that
seems to be that important in the moment, but it's really not. Tip number three, unsubscribe
from marketing emails. If you're like me, those emails saying 50% off all decor, it's a huge
trigger. So by unsubscribing, you remove that temptation out of sight, out of mind. And I know
if you have ADHD, that's a real thing too. Out of sight, out of mind. And tip four, have an
accountability partner. Find a friend, a partner, a family member who can help you stay accountable.
Before making any impulse buys, shoot them a text and ask them, hey, do I really need this?
Sometimes it's good just to get somebody else's perspective and it helps you to pause and think.
And finally, treat yourself responsibly. Of course, living with ADHD doesn't mean
we should feel guilty about every little thing. It's okay to treat yourself now and then,
but just try to plan for it. Buy that cute pumpkin or that fall candle, but make sure it fits within
your budget and your plan. Look, impulse spending happens to the best of us. The important thing is
recognizing it and figuring out how we can manage it moving forward. I mean, I'm still learning and
I'm 58 years old, but hopefully these tips can help all of us. I am going to be making a new video
on a spending challenge. I guess you'd call it a no spending challenge for the month of October.
So stick around for that next video coming out. I'm already into it. I am like coming out with
a fall decor video, but you know, I have ADHD and so I want to do a no spend October and really keep
that spending down through the holiday season, through Christmas. I really appreciate you watching
this video and all the new decor. Some of these things that you're seeing are not new. Some are
from last year, but a lot of the things that you have seen in this video are new purchases.
I've tried not to go crazy, but I didn't want to spend anything this year.
If you have enjoyed this video, please like, subscribe, and hit that notification bell
and I will catch you in the next video. Thanks for watching.
