So get involved and have your say on Manchester City.
She did sit down with CBS's 60 Minutes, but there was some chatter about that interview
maybe being overly edited.
She changed that this week when she sat down with Fox News's Brett Baier.
He's the network's chief political correspondent, a respected journalist in D.C. definitely,
but certainly a tough interviewer for any candidate, particularly Democrats.
So now she's able to walk away from that and say, I sat down with this interviewer, I did
appeal to a broad audience, even conservative-leaning voters.
When's Donald Trump going to do the mirror of that?
And I also noticed, Julia, that she went on the Howard Stern show in the U.S.
And you know, for people who don't know him, it's not really, you know, it's not really
for the faint-hearted if you're a guest going on this program sometimes.
Yeah.
I mean, she's been doing, it goes to show like how, I guess, diverse of a pool of media
she's doing.
She's trying to reach as many voters as possible.
She also went on Charlamagne Tha God's podcast, for example.
But for Howard Stern, Charlamagne Tha God, etc., those are appealing towards two very
different audiences.
But in general, they appeal towards men in particular.
She is polling very behind with men in particular.
That's no surprise for a Democrat.
But she's also pulling very behind with black men and Latino men.
Now, Donald Trump will not win those voting groups outright.
But even if, and I think the pollster before us in the segment before us made this point,
even if he can pull like 20 percent, 15 percent of that vote, I mean, that could make a huge
difference in the polls and could bolster him.
So she's trying to essentially make up for that and appeal to a broader group of voters.
OK.
Well, thank you very much, both of you, for joining us.
Journalist Kelly Mayer and Julian Manchester, I'll let you both get a bit of rest because
it is a Sunday and you'll be back at the campaign trail hard at it tomorrow.
I've got no doubt.
And that is it for today's Sunday show.
So it's just about my nap time as well.
Let's hand over now to Sportsound.
Versus Rangers, football from Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland.
Good morning and a very warm welcome indeed from me, Richard Gordon.
It was quite a day yesterday right across the SPFL, but particularly in the Premiership.
One game to go.
It kicks off in less than 15 minutes time at Rugby Park.
Kalmarnik and Rangers about to go head to head.
Full live commentary in the company of Stephen McGinn, Billy Dodds and Thomas Duncan.
Who's got the team news?
I do, Richard.
Thanks.
Good morning.
And a sunbathed Rugby Park, which I really wasn't expecting given the forecast of a storm
which is coming this afternoon.
So let's hope this lingers for as long as we can.
I'll get to the teams.
Kalmarnik, just a one change from that first league win of the season, that tremendous
late comeback against Dundee before the international break.
David Watson has been struggling with a bit of a shoulder injury.
He's having his minutes managed.
So he's on the bench, drops to the bench and Stuart Finlay back from a little knock himself.
So Kalmarnik go with, it could be a back three or a back four, to be honest, but we'll go
with the back five just now.
Robbie McCrory in goal, Louis Mayo, Stuart Finlay and Robbie Dees across the back and
Daba down the left, Armstrong maybe up the right, Lyons, Donnelly in midfield with maybe
Kennedy playing off Vassell and Watkins.
As for Rangers, they've been on a really good domestic run.
Won their last four without conceding, including that one at Ibrox 2-0 against St. Johnson
before the international break.
Two changes made by Philippe Clermont, a big boost to have Tom Lawrence back.
He goes straight back into the 11.
Connor Barron was rested and then came on at halftime against St. Johnson.
He's into the 11 again, an outgo Raskin and Ross McCausland to the bench.
McCausland was carrying a bit of a knock as well.
So he's among the substitutes.
So the Rangers 11, Butland in goal, Tavernier, Suter, Proffert and Jefty in the back four.
Diamondi and Barron sitting in midfield with Lawrence as the 10.
Czerny down the right, Bajrami down the left and Dessers up front.
And the referee this afternoon, Richard, is Stephen McLean and the VAR is Alan Muir.
Thomas, thank you very much indeed.
It is a midday kickoff, so we don't have an awful lot of time.
We will hear from Stephen and Billy before the match gets up and running.
But let's get to the managers, shall we?
We'll start because Thomas spoke first to the Rangers boss, Philippe Clermont.
Philippe, it's always a bit of a tricky time for managers coming off the back of an international break.
How do you ensure that the encouraging form that you've showed domestically in recent weeks continues this afternoon?
I saw the one, two training sessions that the international heard
was good quality from everybody.
All the other guys who were in the building all the time, they worked really, really good last 10 days.
But this is a special game.
We know it's a big challenge.
Celtic only lost against us and against Celtic in almost one year.
Even in Europe, really good teams like Copenhagen didn't manage to win here.
So it's a big challenge today on a special surface where you need to adapt.
So I want to see faster adaptation from my team.
You've got Tom Lawrence back and into the lineup.
How big a boost is that for him, but also the team?
No, it's for sure a boost because he showed a good level last week, last month,
being really important in the number 10 role with scoring goals and giving assists
and working hard for the team.
So he's in a good place.
You see it also in the way he trains, the way he feels himself.
So that's what you want to see in the game.
He made also a very important goal here last season.
And the chance to close the gap on the on the top two.
How much of an extra incentive is that today to get the job done?
Well, OK, it's things for sure for fans and everybody around.
Busy with that.
We need to be busy with ourselves, focus on ourselves
to to get as many points as possible and and not to focus all the time
on on other teams, because then you lose focus on yourself
and you lose energy that that we will need with with all these games.
We have to play.
So we're only focused on ourselves to to go hard to get the three points.
Thanks. Good luck, please.
Philippe Clément there with Thomas Duncan.
Rangers currently, of course, in third place.
They are six behind Celtic and Aberdeen, who played out
that astonishing game yesterday.
We'll look back on that a little bit later in the program.
But it is an opportunity for Rangers to get a little bit closer.
It's also, of course, a chance for Kilmarnock to elevate themselves
considerably up the early premiership table
and to get away from the bottom pairing of Harder Midlothian and Hibernian.
So let's hear what Derek McInnes also had to say to Thomas.
Derek, I know you were really pleased with the comeback win before the break,
but I know also you spoke about you want more across the 90 minutes.
How have you used the break to try and get closer to that?
Yeah, I think we're well into the season,
we're well up and running in terms of competitive football.
So I think from a physical point of view, we're in a good place.
But, you know, you hang on to anything.
It was a really positive way to finish the game.
It was an unbelievable outcome for us.
But we've got to be honest and say, other than the second half performance,
I thought the first half performance, we were a bit playing within ourselves
and we've got to try and be a bit more forthright.
I think there's been a wee bit of a pattern, certainly in domestic games,
that we've been better in second halves.
And we're not scoring the first goal enough in games.
And it's important that we try and impose ourselves in a game,
particularly in a game like today, when you're up against a team
where we've got a lot of confidence, a lot of good players.
It's important that they see a commander team that is ready to try and take the initiative.
And hopefully we can do that at the right times.
We know what you did against Old Firmby last season.
It was some tremendous performances and results.
I suppose that must give the players tremendous belief going into a game like this afternoon.
Well, I think it helps.
Certainly, you know, I think our job as managers and coaches
is to try and sell that and show the belief that we can get a result.
Some games are harder to win than others.
And there's no doubt that's how we come out of that category.
But win is what we believe we can do.
And I think that having that reference, having as many players on the pitch today
who were part of that, some wins last season against Old Firm, helps matters.
But I think, you know, we train all week to win games of football.
And it's important for us today that we turn up, we do our jobs well.
And I think if we do our jobs well enough,
we certainly have a chance of winning today's game.
And that's what we're here for.
Just the one change, David Watson obviously carrying that shoulder injury.
Is that just a case of managing his minutes and obviously a big boost to have Stuart Finlay back?
Yeah, he's getting there.
It's an injury I had as well when I played and he don't quite get out of the bit with it.
Obviously, David's managed to do a quarter of a day's training this week as well.
But it's a contact thing.
And we're just mindful that he's maybe just not quite there with it.
But look, he'll be ready to come on and play his part,
just as he has done all season.
I think he's been involved in every game this season, either starting or coming on.
But, you know, it is a change that if he was fully fit,
then it's not something we'd maybe look to do.
But he's just got this week and a concern at the minute,
but it's nothing that will last too long.
Thanks, Derek. Good luck this afternoon.
Derek McInnes hoping, I mean, remarkably for Kamanic's first home win of the season.
In fact, they haven't won at Rugby Park since they won their success against Ross County
way back on April the 6th.
There have been a lot of draws, certainly, in their home matches.
But as he pointed out, this is a tough one to try to get that first win.
They will, though, Billy Dodds, be able to call on that record
that they've had against Celtic and Rangers down there at Rugby Park.
Yeah, it's a tough place for any team to come, even though the stats would suggest otherwise.
But he knows it's an opportunity, and it's an opportunity that's come with a bit of confidence now
because they have been struggling this season in the league,
maybe because of the European campaign, as suggested.
But they get that all-important turnaround against Dundee,
so they couldn't be coming into it in better confidence.
It could have been a lot worse if that Dundee game had gone wrong.
And I'm sure he'll be looking forward to it.
And they've set up, we'll see if they go a back three or a back four.
I think they might go a four.
But you know he can flip it round as well and make it a three.
But they have gone very attacking, Kamanic, so it'll be a tough game for Rangers.
Yeah, what's your thinking, Stephen? Will it be a three or a four at the back?
I think it'll be a four.
I think he'll want to get Marley Watkins and Kyle Bissell right up against that Rangers back line.
I think John Suter's having a really good season.
I think he'll reference that.
But I think they'll have a look at it proper, see if he fancies it down here.
Real physical battle against Watkins and Bissell.
And I think that's the key area of the park, and it's obviously the point for the Strikers.
But any good Kamanic performance, they two are at their best, so hard to play against.
So I think it'll start off a four.
Kennedy having a really good performance at Dundee, kick-starting their season.
I think that'll be the message from Derek McInnes.
I know they've not won here, but they've played the least amount of home games.
That'll be the target. They're nine points from four.
We've got our season started now.
Any game they play here, any game Derek McInnes has always had at home,
he looks to try and win the game.
Big test in Rangers, but they are a much better home team than the RYA team.
And I think this is where they get the points.
So we'll be looking for three points today.
Philippe Clement referenced the pitch.
He said it was a special service.
You have experience of it, of course.
I mean, does it have a massive bearing in terms of the game?
Yeah, even visually, it doesn't look great.
I mean, I've played with teams on AstroTurf.
I think good AstroTurf pitches, fresh AstroTurf pitches are good.
I think there's a place for them, especially in this country.
You look at the weather today, but they have to be managed properly.
They have to be replaced every couple of years.
We have to be more strict with the quality of them,
because no doubt, I mean, it looks like your granny's carpet almost.
Like, it's so flat, there's no...
So it's going to be a different type of game for Rangers,
but just on...
I mean, John played for Aston Villa in the Champions League on AstroTurf pitches,
so we can't totally shut ourselves off from it.
They are going to be part of European football, so...
But just the quality of them.
It's the speed of this one, isn't it?
It's so quick and slick.
Especially if you have a bit of rain, and it's not much, given that...
I know what you're alluding to, because Airdrie, Falkirk, really good surfaces.
They've got a little bit of check on them.
This one's so speedy, Richard.
Yeah, no, absolutely.
And I mean, it just...
I'm astonished by the weather you have down there,
and I'm assuming it's probably heading your way.
Lots of people right across the country will be in the midst of storms right now.
Somehow that pitch never looks quite the same when the sun is shining on it.
Obviously, it looks a wee bit better if it is damp,
if it is dark overhead, if the floodlights are on.
Somehow, I mean...
Anyway, it's long established now.
You bought the pitch, though, because it's shiny.
I know what you mean.
Yeah, yeah.
Look, we touched on the commanding defence, how they might line up.
No question about how Rangers will line up at the back,
and that's becoming tried and tested,
and a first-choice back line, isn't it, for Philippe Clément?
It is, and I'm worried for a spell,
that if that back four could keep clean sheets,
but they've done pretty well.
The response from the Celtic game has been good.
They haven't always played well,
but I think with everything that's going on at Rangers,
the questions asked so far this season,
it's been a really good response,
getting a good quota of points on four straight wins in the league,
and then coming into this one.
So they've handled the domestic side of it okay,
and what an opportunity after that fabulous game yesterday for Rangers,
and that's what will be getting mentioned in the dressing room,
to get to within three points at the top two,
with everything that's going on,
handling the European campaign as well,
the questions asked,
I mean, there's been fitness issues with some players,
getting the best start they're living on the pitch,
so from having all that,
to have a fabulous opportunity today,
Philippe Clément will be saying that to his players,
go and make it three,
let's get a lot of positivity about this club.
Yeah, I mean, it is remarkable,
because it's such a positive start,
such an incredible start by both Celtic and Aberdeen.
They played out that astonishing game yesterday,
Graeme Shinney, of course, with equaliser,
Sokler had made it 2-1,
Rio Hattati and Kyogo giving Celtic,
what you'd have anticipated being an almost impregnable lead at that stage,
so lots to look back on,
which we will do a little bit later,
but it does mean,
Stephen, the Rangers are looking at this and thinking,
you know what, despite all the fact,
the fact that there's been occasionally a wee bit of doom and gloom,
but certainly all the positivity has gone the way of Celtic and Aberdeen,
they get the win,
and they're almost within touching distance of the pair.
Yeah, you have to be,
that has to be the message from Phil Clement,
James Tavernier getting around the players,
because for all the negativity within the first quarter,
you go three points behind,
you've been to Celtic Park,
you've been to Tyne Castle,
you've been to Rugby Park,
so it's how you look at it,
you've got to go with that positive mindset.
Today, Billy said the performances have been inconsistent,
the team's starting to look like this has preferred 11,
so apart from Ridvan missing with injury,
you would think this is his team,
his best team,
so can they get out of here?
Performance doesn't matter,
get within three points,
and as I said,
been to some of these really difficult venues,
and then you start to look at the positive of it.
So Rangers looking for the positives,
Kamanic's big positive,
and Danny MacInnes referenced it there,
was that incredible win at Dens Park,
they will be looking to feed off that,
and to bring that kind of momentum into the game.
Highlights tonight, 7.15 BBC Scotland Channel,
you also get the best of the action from yesterday,
there's plenty going on both throughout the course of today,
and over the week ahead,
I'll run through all that as we progress through the programme,
but the teams have emerged into the Ayrshire sunshine,
it is the one remaining SPFL fixture of the weekend,
it's live here on Sports Sound on BBC Radio Scotland,
Kamanic against Rangers,
with your commentary team of Stephen McGinn,
Billy Dodds,
and Thomas Duncan.
Thanks Richard,
good afternoon everyone,
and the players just emerging from the tunnel here
at Sunkist Rugby Park,
showing up,
they show racism,
the red cards,
placards,
it is show racism,
the red card,
weekend in Scottish football,
all the games doing this show of solidarity,
and message being sent that there is no room for racism in football,
as across society as well,
as the players hoist the cards above their heads,
and there is a bit of a buzz around Rugby Park,
it has been a challenging start to the season for Kamanic,
but there are memories fresh in these home supporters' minds
of scalps conquered here last season,
Celtic of course beating here,
and quite comprehensively almost beating here,
even though it was only 2-1,
really aggressive performance,
full of intensity,
and of course beat Rangers here as well,
in the league on the opening day of last season,
when Michael Beale was the manager,
and so they have lots to take with them into this season,
when they face a big two,
and they'll be confident,
despite as Richard mentioned,
their home form hasn't been sparkling in recent times,
but they have only played three home league games,
and two of them came after European ties,
so with four of their next five away from home,
they're really trying to capitalise here,
being at Rugby Park,
and as for Rangers,
what an incentive it is for them,
to try to close the gap to Celtic and Aberdeen,
back to three points,
which with everything that's going on in the club at every level,
since the start of this season,
would be a real big boost to them,
as their fans pack the away end away to our left,
and the referee,
just in discussion with James Tavernier and Kyle Vassell,
the captains,
Coentos handshakes,
and we prepare for kick-off,
the line-ups,
and we reckon, come on,
it will probably go back four,
with Robbie McCrory in goals,
Lewis Mayo,
Stuart Finlay,
and Robbie Dees,
and Corian Dabba,
across that back four,
Armstrong,
Lyons,
Donnelly,
and Kennedy,
in a flat midfield four,
with Vassell and Watkins,
the front two,
aiming to put pressure on the Rangers' back line,
and for Rangers,
familiar,
four, two, three, one,
and what we really see probably is,
Philippe Clameau's strongest eleven,
certainly it's his favoured one,
when he can field it,
at the moment,
with injuries to some others,
and it's Butland in goal,
Tavernier,
Sutter,
Proper,
Ghefti,
Diamondi,
and Barr in the midfield,
Cherney,
Lawrence,
and Bayrami,
the attackers behind,
as the Rangers fans applaud the goalkeeper,
as they prepare to watch their team kick off,
shooting from right to left,
as we sit here in the main stands at Rugby Park,
and can Kilmarnock truly ignite their season,
and fortnight ago,
that comeback against Dundee was spectacular,
and what has it done to their confidence and belief,
as Rangers get us underway,
and go back to Proper and Sutter,
the centre-halves,
and now to Ghefti,
the left-back,
Vassell putting some pressure on,
as it's not backed to Jack Butland,
and Sutter in his own box,
goes back to Butland,
and Kilmarnock pressing really high,
and getting up on top of the goalkeeper,
Butland who has to shell it long,
into the Kilmarnock half,
and it's headed out by Robbie Dees,
and out for a Rangers throw-in,
midway through the Achille half,
Billy Dodds,
Kilmarnock trying to get after Rangers early on,
as they look to build out,
they're playing that 4-4-2 formation,
but they'll drop deep at times,
but when they can get the press on,
they're certainly getting the front two,
and the faces of that Rangers back four,
Dees heads that out towards the touchline,
as the cross came in,
and Dabba put it up in the air,
and it's pivoting about in the middle of the pitch,
Lawrence chases it to Diamondi,
then over the top to Bayrami,
and then Cherney with a first-time ball towards Dessers,
but it's well defended by Kilmarnock,
and then it's forward and up into the air by Armstrong,
Vassell backs in to proffer,
and he had a good touch initially,
but then it flicks away from him,
and forwards,
now comes Bayrami down the left touchline,
he's met by Lewis Mayle with a good challenge,
former Rangers defender of course,
who started his career there,
many years in the academy,
and Kilmarnock have it,
Armstrong back to Mayle,
and he's closed down by Bayrami,
and it spins out for a throw-in,
in line with the edge of their own penalty area.
Marley Watkins made a brilliant run there,
I think Danny Armstrong just couldn't get out his feet
to find him,
there's a lot of space to happen,
I wondered how they would shape up within the 4-4-2,
if they would both take turns of dropping into bar,
and it looks like Marley Watkins is going to do that job,
and they're going to keep Kyle Vassell really high,
and as I said from early on,
he's going up against proffer,
I think they're going to test him out,
see if he can handle the physicalness of Kyle Vassell.
Yeah, John Suter and Robin Propper,
the established centre-half pairing,
John Suter in really good form,
started the last seven together for Rangers,
and it bounces in front of John Suter,
and he goes square to Tavernier,
Kennedy closes down,
and Tavernier goes long for Czerny,
who got that double to down St Johnson at Ibrox,
before the break,
and it's out for Kilmarnock,
thrown in the far side.
Kilmarnock, first Premiership win this season against Dundee,
means they are unbeaten in five matches,
after four straight draws,
so it's not been as if they've been losing,
week in and week out,
and I think many do feel that they are,
perhaps in a false position,
but it's one thing to say that,
and for observers to say that,
but the points do need to be picked up,
as Suter knocks it back to Jack Butland,
and it's goal this year at Rugby Park,
after two and a half minutes,
Propper, a Rangers centre-half,
rolls up the studs,
he's looking for a pass,
there aren't many options,
and he has to go direct,
as Czerny's made a run behind,
but Stuart Finlay watches it all the way,
and heads it to the feet of Ndaba,
who hooks it up into the Ayrshire Sky,
and Vassell challenges with Suter,
who wins the header,
it bounces in the centre circle,
and Biramy's had a missed kick,
and that allows Comarnat to recover possession,
as Danny Armstrong takes it in the centre circle,
and he's pinged a left-footed pass deep,
on top of Tavernier,
who heads it,
Kennedy picks up,
he's on the touchline,
he's got two Rangers players in front of him,
Diamondi and Tavernier,
he runs at Tavernier,
and he's round him,
and then goes down,
looking for the free kick,
or the corner,
but neither are given,
it will be a goal kick to Rangers,
nil-nil.
Yeah, I think he realised,
I've just over-hit that,
he's positive,
he goes one-on-one with Tavernier,
tries to get to the by-line,
but you can see he's over-hit it,
and then he's thinking,
I'll just leave the legs there,
hopefully Tavernier takes it,
I can get my team a free kick,
but good refereeing from Steve McLean,
because it was never a fill.
And Suter lets that run behind,
for another goal kick,
but yeah,
he put in a tremendous display for Scotland,
against Portugal,
named player of the match,
and really coming onto a game,
great to see him get a run,
without any injuries,
so far this season,
the Rangers centre-back.
They're being really aggressive,
come on,
like they're going,
and Davis pushing right up,
but it's the way they play,
that is quite fluid,
the formation in Badass,
pushing up and Tavernier,
and they're just saying,
come and kick it,
we'll fancy ourselves to win ahead,
they're man for man.
And Dees actually leaves that one,
to drop into the arms of Robbie McCrory,
who of course also,
adds his time at Rangers,
seven appearances,
over a decade,
and over a decade at Ibrox,
now trying to establish himself,
as a come on at number one,
in that battle with O'Hara,
who's on the bench,
as it's long,
Vassell,
chasing it in the box,
and he gets a boot on it,
and it drops now,
the chance blocked,
by Suter,
it was goal bounds,
crucial intervention,
by the Rangers defender.
Unbelievable how he's not scored,
I think he was surprised,
Mally Watkins,
but Robin Proper's going to have,
a long,
long afternoon,
if he's going to let Kyle Vassell,
back into him,
and let the ball bounce,
because it caused,
absolute mayhem,
is what they're looking for,
and it should have been,
one now,
come on.
We'll touch on it in a minute,
we're going to take the throw,
and you know what come on do,
but my word,
I mean,
what is he doing,
in this blustery day?
Armstrong's long throw,
headed out to the edge of the box,
and then the,
hooked pass,
back to Armstrong,
on the right hand side,
he miscontrols,
and Zhefti,
comes away with it,
with a bright pink boots,
gives it infield to Bayrami,
who spreads it,
over the head of Vassell,
to James Tavernier,
who,
maybe should have taken a touch here,
he's kept it in though,
and,
squeezed it down the line to Czerny,
he's done really well,
Czerny coming in on that left foot,
and tries to check back on the right,
and it's still rolling through,
they come on at boxing,
they want the goalkeeper,
and Dabber wanted his goalkeeper,
to claim it,
he was a bit hesitant at first,
but McCrory,
eventually dives on it,
nil-nil.
Yeah he was,
nearly the end,
there's a right panic on,
because I think he does the right thing,
and Dabber,
I mean,
Czerny's cutting in,
and he's driving,
he's positive as well,
and he's over hit it,
and he's thinking McCrory,
come and get it,
you can see him Dabber,
but he's making sure,
he's watching Czerny as well,
going back to the chance,
I mean,
blustery,
in that corner as well,
you know how the wind sweeps through there,
Stephen,
you know better than anybody here,
but to let it bounce,
and then,
once,
Vassell gets the contact,
and it falls to Watkins,
I think he should be scoring,
he's either got to,
blast it,
or make sure he gets it over Suter,
and he does neither,
he hits it straight off him,
it's a big let off for Rangers.
To be fair to Suter,
he stays pretty calm,
he makes,
Watkins have to try and score,
he doesn't do anything silly,
and he gets his reward,
played over the top to Dessers,
who can't control it,
flag was down,
and then goes up anyway,
it was offside,
tried to bring it down out the sky,
but,
just as we were,
talking about John Suter there,
but they won't make any apology,
Komarnik,
it's coming over here,
into this left-hand channel again,
to Vassell,
they'll target him,
it's Danny McInnes,
he's going to see if he fancies it,
and so far,
Vassell looks like he's got the better of him.
Seven minutes played at Rugby Park,
goalless between Komarnik and Rangers,
but Komarnik with the best early chance,
Watkins' effort blocked on the goal line by Suter,
in front of the goal line it was heading in,
as Tavernier,
tries to play it forward,
but he's smashed it into Liam Donnelly,
and it's away to Kennedy on the left,
he's done well to evade the challenge of Cherney,
and now gives it to Ndaba,
who goes backwards to Finlay,
back in the 11,
for David Watson,
the only Komarnik change from two weeks ago,
as that pass up towards the halfway line,
goes straight out for a Rangers throw-in,
bang on halfway,
but I think that's exactly what Philippe Cohom was talking about,
he perhaps politely put it as a special type of game,
that's needed here when you come to Rugby Park,
with a pitch and conditions,
and Komarnik just so full of aggression,
intensity,
vigour,
right on top of you,
you've got to be prepared to battle,
as Proper crosses the halfway line under no pressure,
and then he's slipped it to Jeff Dey,
left-hand side of the box,
low crossing,
takes the nick off,
Dey's at the near post,
and then Donnelly picks up and clears it for a throw-in,
in line with the edge of the Kelly penalty area.
It's good from Proper that time on,
the ball coming out,
and he's forcing Jeff Dey to make the run,
and then times the pass to perfection,
he's in behind,
Mayo switches off a little bit,
just can't match him,
and then he hits first man,
but a good move from Rangers down the left-hand side,
it's a lot of warning,
if Komarnik are going to just go man for man,
everyone else leave him on the balls,
no, hang on,
I can step in,
I can play the pass,
it makes you rethink,
maybe the off-the-ball tactic.
Here is Proper,
pink flashes on the boots,
gives it to Diamondi,
who goes long again towards Lawrence,
and it's headed away by Mayo,
and then drops for Armstrong,
and they're claiming for a handball,
as he cleared that,
it hit off a Rangers arm,
it was by the side,
though of Jeff Dey,
and it's out for a Rangers throw,
inside their half,
but the Rangers going also very direct,
it has to be said,
looking for the pass over the top,
Czerny's made a couple of runs,
Dessers as well,
just trying to,
I don't think it's a day to take chances though,
Tommy,
I mean you see it,
when as soon as Proper lets it bounce,
he's got himself an own source of trouble,
and it's Brad Lyons,
gives away a free kick,
a little niggly foul on Tom Lawrence,
as he challenged for the ball,
Derek McInnes won't mind that,
as he's out on the edge of his technical area,
just making sure that Lawrence didn't have any time,
and here is Tom Lawrence,
back fit again,
having missed the St. Johnson game,
and it's sailed with the left boot,
over to the right wing,
and Tavernier controls it for Rangers,
back to Suter,
Rangers in the dark blue change kit,
with red flashes across it,
Kilmarnock in the blue and white stripes,
as they come forward,
good footing from Lyons in midfield,
as it went through to Lawrence,
and here is Lyons,
gives it to Armstrong,
then back to Mayo,
who goes up to Watkins,
who gets first contact,
but it's intercepted by Proper,
and Czerny to Barron,
Diamondi just tries to cross the halfway,
knocks it to Barron,
then big switch from Barron,
and that's good play by Bayrami,
touch on the head,
then edge of the box,
looks for a cut back to Desslers on the penalty spot,
but it's cleared comfortably,
the front post area by Kilmarnock,
as Vassell goes down,
the Kilmarnock fans want a free kick,
and they get it from the Rangers defender.
Brilliant from Vassell,
he's just playing on proper,
he's just using his strength,
what Rangers might need to look at at times,
is maybe getting Barron to come and screen,
just playing front,
because if the ball's going to be allowed to bounce,
he's so strong, Vassell,
he just almost just pins him and rolls around,
and the minute he gets the other side,
Proper's in trouble,
probably a good decision just to foul him.
One thing for sure,
Proper's not enjoying that physical battle,
hooked into the Rangers box,
Diamondi's there to head it away,
and Jeff Day keeps it in,
but he's given it straight to Danny Armstrong,
who goes backwards onto his left foot,
and then curls it to Ndava,
who's in the middle of the pitch,
about 40 yards out,
Cherney's forcing him backwards,
he goes along the way to outside,
and he gets it back,
left-hand side of the box,
flashed into the near post,
what a chance that is for Kennedy,
if Kilmarnock should have scored earlier on,
if Watkinsley absolutely should have scored there,
Matty Kennedy makes any contact with the ball,
it's 1-0 Kilmarnock,
brilliant play from Marcel,
good one to Ndava,
unbelievable ball in,
Butlin can't come for it,
and Matty Kennedy should have scored.
He just needs a contact, doesn't he?
I mean, it's good all-round play,
as Stephen's described there,
when Ndava gets down that left-hand side,
he just fizzes it,
and Suter's taken up the front post position,
but Proper's then dropped Kennedy,
who's in,
and he just needs a contact,
it's 1-0 Killie,
but misses it at the vital moment,
from about two yards.
There was no one near him as well,
Matty Kennedy in a great position,
fantastic cross,
and that's Rangers caught a couple of times.
It's important to note,
not just the physical battle,
the brighter Rangers at the minute,
they're sharper,
the 1-2 is really slick,
and if Rangers allow them to keep playing like this,
Kilmarnock will punish you.
Up to Dessers,
little layoff looking for Diamonde,
as a groan from the away end,
because it is eaten up all day by Kilmarnock in the middle of the pitch,
it goes back to Macrody,
the goalkeeper,
who sends it again up towards Marcel,
who again comes out,
ahead of,
with the ball,
ahead of Proper,
and Shefty tries to defend,
and he gets the free kick,
Danny Armstrong,
giving him a nudge.
I'm not sure that was out,
if it goes for a goal kick,
so I think he's offside,
and he's put the flag up late,
pointed it,
it's been offside.
Yeah, our favourite late flag,
catching me out there,
offside.
Kilmarnock have got the balance right though,
haven't they?
When they get the opportunity,
if it's a by-kick for Rangers,
they'll go full press,
but when it's open play,
they'll sometimes sit about the arch,
ready to spring as a 4-4-2,
so they're keeping that balance of a threat up front,
but still been hard to break down,
with the Rangers having the extra man in midfield.
Derek McInnes was just out on the edge of his technical area,
holding his hands up to disgust a bit,
because Kilmarnock allowed Rangers to play out,
a bit too easily on that occasion,
as Bayrami has it,
midway through the Kelly half,
he goes inside to Diamondi,
back to Proper,
centre half,
then to Souter in the centre circle,
along the AstroTurf to Barron,
who makes a little dart forward,
and gives it to Czerny on the touchline,
Braslav Czerny,
into Diamondi,
but he's got Kilmarnock midfielder right on him,
and Liam Donnelly,
but he gets away,
and gives it to Zhefti,
and takes it inside,
and then outside,
Danny Armstrong,
he's coming towards the centre of the pitch,
gives it to Lawrence,
Lawrence to Bayrami,
Rangers a bit narrow at the minute,
but Diamondi tries to thread one to Dessers,
who makes the run,
but Robbie McCrory,
gathers it on the edge of his six yard box,
and it's good stuff.
Defensively from Kilmarnock,
Rangers try and probe,
nil-nil,
13 and a half minutes played here at Rugby Park.
Yeah, they were pretty narrow and secure,
but that's better for Rangers,
they're going to have to use that extra man,
get a few passes made,
and they try to feed it through,
Diamondi,
just takes a little deflection,
but Dessers made a good run,
nearly got there,
but McCrory was sharp.
Well Kyle Vassell again wins the ball,
this time I think illegally,
according to the officials.
I think it was a decent spot from Steve McLean,
I think Robin Protter is trying to win the header,
Kyle Vassell doesn't even want to win the header,
so they want it to bounce,
you look at Watkins and Armstrong's position,
midfield right up,
they're wanting it to bounce,
so they're going to have to figure something out,
because if they allow it to keep bouncing,
in Kilmarnock,
they're getting the joy.
You're right,
you've got to put him cuter,
and I mean like sneak around him,
when they're flicking the ball,
because he's,
look at Vassell,
all he does is watch for the man,
to try and get a grip on you,
so just be a bit more cuter from Protter,
obviously he's not done that,
he's taken on the physical bat,
and he's second best so far.
Foul on Diamonde,
just short of the,
just to the left of the centre circle,
free kick to Rangers,
they get on with it,
Tavernier out to Czerny,
fizzes it down the right hand side of the box,
to Tavernier,
good touch,
and he goes for the cross on the left foot,
Dessar's touch,
edge of the six yard box,
on a turn the defender,
Dessar still going,
and the goalkeeper comes out to smother,
and it goes behind,
and he ends for a goal kick to Kilmarnock,
yeah he's unlucky Dessar's,
I think he does well,
he gets under control in the box,
he's just looking for that half yard,
but Robbie Dees is just so tight with him,
that he can't get a shot away,
good from Tavernier again,
good run on Matty Kennedy,
that's twice,
he's just switched off slightly,
he's tracked him all the way,
but just can't get there,
Tavernier then turns,
puts in the ball,
and Stephen said there's a good touch,
it's that instinctive thing though,
can he get a shot away,
instead of trying to twist and turn,
make it through bodies,
but Dees did well,
held him at bay,
here's Lawrence on the halfway line,
backwards to Baron,
then up to Dessar's,
now to Bairame,
Zefti's made a run down the left touchline,
he gets the ball,
the Brazilian dribbles into the middle of the pitch,
but it's well read initially,
but then it falls back for Zefti,
and then Armstrong gets the foot in,
and Kilmarnock,
when it walk-ins up to Vassallo again,
gets in front of Proper,
he's pursued by Baron,
who wins the ball off the Kilmarnock captain,
and now Bairame has it,
Bairame up towards Dessar's,
who turns and tried to just cutely roll,
Finlay, and then take it,
but it was always skitting away from him,
and through to Robbie McCrory,
he said,
Philip, come on,
special pitch,
and having to handle it specially,
I mean,
Zefti just doesn't know how the ball runs in this pitch,
because he thinks it's just going to run through,
and it's bubbling all over the place,
sometimes you've just got to let the ball do the work,
just make the pass,
but you can't overrun it,
and here's another chance for Watkins,
as Vassallo yet again wins it,
and it's not Watkins,
shot on goal,
but blocked behind for a corner to kill it,
brilliant from Vassallo,
I mean, it's so good,
instant control,
he's backing in,
really good vision to find Marley Watkins,
and it's a good block from the end up from Rangers,
but they aren't learning,
I mean, these away games,
these games are,
they throw up different challenges,
who is identifying that corner back,
you're going to maybe have to stand in front,
Baia is a foul,
just stand in front,
and when he tries to back in,
use your strength,
and go and win a free kick,
because it's a real problem at the minute for Rangers.
Matty Kennedy over this come on at corner,
raises the left arm,
and curls one,
towards the edge of the six yard box,
and Dava's header,
up in the air,
Barron then,
nods it away,
and then it's,
it's controlled,
and Rangers can counter here,
it's three on one for Rangers,
if Dessers can get rid quickly,
and his pass for Cherney is a shocker,
and it's intercepted by Robbie Dees,
and Kilmarnock,
perhaps get out of jail there.
As out of jail,
Danny Armstrong,
I don't know what he's trying,
an overhead kick,
but Dessers has got to just play in Bizarrami,
I don't know why he's so complicated,
they had the runners,
they had space,
so many options,
simple pass left,
and they probably get a shot at goal,
maybe even a goal,
but wrong pass,
wrong choice,
he passed from Dessers,
that is the frustration,
that's what fans have with him,
that's when you get the chance to play here,
when Kilmarnock give the ball away,
make a mistake,
they are,
they are open,
because they are so aggressive,
they have to be more better quality than that,
here comes Tavernier,
into Cherney,
edge of the box,
he's got a bit of space to shoot with the left foot,
and beaten away,
at the front post by Robbie McCrory,
better from Rangers,
back to Diamonde,
next to the touchline,
gives it to Cherney,
thinks about the cross with the left foot,
gives it to Bizarrami,
and then Diamonde,
Bizarrami over on the right hand side,
into Tavernier,
side of the box,
puts it,
or tries to put it to the back post,
where Dessers was peeling off,
but it's too close to the goalkeeper,
who collects,
18 minutes played,
Kilmarnock nil,
Rangers nil,
he's in a good area,
Dessers expecting better from Tavernier,
when he picks up on that right hand side,
maybe just to float one towards that back post,
going back to Cherney's shot,
picks up those pockets,
when he comes inside,
maybe 25 yards from goal,
that's a good left foot strike,
looks as if it was moving a wee bit,
and then McCrory had to deal with it,
beats it away to his left hand side.
That's a poor pass from Mayo,
straight at Bizarrami,
and knocks it into the Kilmarnock half for Lawrence,
but it's far too close to Dees,
who puts it up towards Watkins,
who's won the ball,
and then Lyons goes down,
tangle of legs with Connor Barron,
and Kilmarnock free kick,
midway through the Rangers half,
and a chance to send this one into the Rangers box.
He's just got his body in front,
Connor Barron's trying not to foul him,
but the way Brad Lyons has manoeuvred his body,
he's so hard for him to get out of the way,
and good situation,
good position for Kennedy,
Armstrong to turn it in the Rangers box.
Yeah, Kilmarnock have options,
Armstrong and Kennedy,
who have been,
well there's been a lot of stars of Kilmarnock's success
over the last 12 months or so,
but chief among them is Armstrong,
curls one in and building them up,
as he curls it straight down the throat of Jack Butland,
Danny Armstrong.
It's a wrong area.
I'll tell you what,
if he hits that back area,
Rangers zone him,
they switch off,
and Finlay makes a great run down the back.
Late, but he's right through,
see if he puts in that back area,
he's got a hell of a chance to score.
He's probably the wrong taker,
because Finlay's run so good,
he actually wanted to be caught.
