Nails - I mixed 2 essie blues I had, any cobalt or dark blue polish screams Alaska :)
The top is the Laura Halter top from Brandy Melville, they are currently not shipping out orders but I do have 3 for sale on poshmark! https://poshmark.com/closet/jackiewyers
Jeans are thrifted from Poshmark, key words were Levis S XXS XS 24 high waisted rise vintage vtg
The exact jeans Alaska wears are Free People Bardot Jean but they are no longer available. Free People & Levis has several styles that are similar!
Necklace is the Native Treasure 18 inch Men's Black and Brown Wood Coco Shell Bead Surfer Necklace Choker - 5mm (3/16") - was too big but I tied it (lol) and added a blue/green reflective nail polish to look more like Alaskas necklace. Was a fun quick DIY: https://amzn.to/3dHWapk
My top is Lucky Brand Floral Blouse from Poshmark,

if you are reading this... How will I ever get out of this Labyrinth?
hey it's Jackie and welcome back to my channel
for today's video and recreate one of my favourite character looks this is Alaska
young from the nuit limited series Looking for Alaska on Hulu it's also an
amazing book so I would love to know in the comments if you're a fan of the book
how you pictured her character to be I think it'd be really fun to read your
comments and in this video I'm gonna be sharing some supper essentials a quick
and easy makeup look I already have it done but I'll go over the products as
well as some cool hairstyles in retro fashion so I hope you guys enjoy this
video I had a lot of fun putting it together so make sure you give it a
thumbs up and subscribe for more like this and I'm really excited to be
working with native deodorant on this video so my first summer essential let's
pull it out here is my coconut and vanilla sensitive native deodorant stick
this collab is very serendipitous because a while ago I tweeted out asking
for help looking for a new natural deodorant because in the past I've been
getting like a rash behind my arpan it's very odd but
apparently that's a quite common thing with natural deodorants so a couple of
you guys actually recommended me to try at the native sensitive line which
doesn't have baking soda and I've been loving it so thanks for the
recommendation and I'm very excited to be working with them in my pack I also
picked out the a cucumber and mint scent and then from the
regular line and lavender and rose which smells amazing so if you've been wanting
to make the switch to natural deodorant but you haven't found a brand that works
for you yet try this one out because it's my new holy grail and I really
think you guys will like it so if you want 33% off your first pack as well as
free shipping just use it's a total screen Yoder's is step one everyday and
my summer sensual with the coconut scent and you guys have been getting a look at
this classic Alaska look so let's rewind and I'll show you how I got the hair and
makeup and of course all the ofus let's start with the 70s bohemian outfit this
top is brandy melville and it is still in stores but I got it off Poshmark
because brandy isn't shipping currently but any holter will work especially if
you can find one with a summery retro stripe the pants Alaska wore were
originally Free People but I couldn't track them down in my size so I thrifted
these and they are vintage Levi's that were a bit too big for me but similarly
high-waisted they have a looser fit in a wide leg for her accessories Alaska
wears a black beaded choker that has a turquoise shift to it when the light
hits and then a longer necklace layered under and for shoes she wears these old
school vans I didn't showcase the earrings well but
I'm wearing a blue stud and now that we have at the base of the outfit with all
the accessories it's just my hairstyles and tops that will change let's move to
her everyday natural and flowing hair this is how my hair air dries so it's
not pin straight it has a bit of wave but we're gonna amp that up and I'm
adding some dry shampoo into my roots and I'm wearing a 1/3 clip left of
extension for volume but that's totally optional my hair is in a center part
which is crucial to an Alaska look it's very sweet and girl-next-door and with
this tapered wand and wrapping small sections around the barrel curling away
from the face I'm holding it on the barrel for like 2 seconds and then right
away running my fingers through it so that the wave loosens up and looks very
natural
you also want to start the wave at around your shoulder length
a step I like to do is T's right beside my part so that the hair lays a bit
better I have a bit of like a cowlick that makes it stick up and it also makes
the hairline look quite a bit thicker for the recreation photo I push the side
pieces down slightly for a smaller looking for head but otherwise these
looks are so natural I'm not really gonna mess with it too much and this
look is super cute with one side tucked behind the ear and now let's move to the
make up a beautiful light foundation for spring and summer is the Revlon candid
glow it's fresh and natural-looking and the photo I use for reference had really
peachy cheeks on Alaska so I picked out this covergirl trublend trio and I used
some of the blush bronzer and highlight in here I wanted to pick some
inexpensive products inspired by her character and then for the lips this is
where I went a little bit different with it Alaska's lips tend to look more
purpley and that's just her natural coloring so I went with my own natural
coloring and I used Mac's lip liner in world to give my lips more shape and
then blend in but my lips are quite a bit more red than hers first summer I
really love using just a bit of lip liner it's sweet barely there it lasts
on the lips and it's super comfortable my eyes are quite large as we know so
whenever I do transformations I'll usually look similar to the person but
with huge eyes and that's the case in this look this is the only waterproof
mascara I currently have it's super cute and mermaid-like it's the better than
sex waterproof edition and I'm focusing it on my upper corner lashes another
summer makeup tip and essential is a good setting spray I need this in human
New York and yeah just give this a little spray and then we are good to go
I did do some light contouring on my nose similar to Christine so if you want
to see those steps I'll have another tutorial linked in the information
button but let's head on to left to which is actually my favorite one for
this bohemian hairstyle just tuck your hair behind your ears and I'm adding a
bit of a tease at the back on their side because with so much length I
do like to do this to add some balance just adding a tiny bit of volume and now
pick up a section right after where you've tucked your hair and we're gonna
create a simple braid that hangs down no elastic is necessary just spray the ends
with a bit of hairspray and do a bit of a tease at the bottom this might unravel
a bit throughout the day but the more worn in the better sometimes I wonder if
I should do these hairstyles because they're just so easy but I love TV and
movie styles that have simple hair that you might not think to do right off the
bat when you wake up but once you do it gives such a cool vibe especially paired
with the vintage e a floral blouse this one is not the same from the show but I
again I found it on Poshmark and I'll just type in keywords for
videos like this for example retro floral button-down and then scroll
through until I find something similar great way to save money and find some
really cool unique pieces and make sure to tuck in your blouse and add in a faux
leather backpack if you had one and Alaska staple is definitely blue nail
polish and it's almost always chipped so while it pained me to chip my nail
polish purposely I'm trying to be accurate here and now the Alaska styled
pony again tuck your hair on either sides behind your ears and bring out a
couple of strands in front and behind your ear I did like four on each side if
mine looked crazy like the strands if they were really staticky here but I'll
fix that and anyway for the pony you want to brush the sides down and then
the back backwards and bring this into your hands while you have your hands in
the placement of where your pony's gonna go before using the elastic to secure
loosen up those front pieces so that it flows nicely backwards and then gently
use the elastic and tie it and then soften up any of those bumps that might
happen by really lightly tugging on the hair
most of Alaska's ponies were in the middle lower part of her head and I
never do my ponies like this I always go for a high pony so it was a nice change
and definitely shows the length more of your pony tail
and now to style those pieces that we've left out I find they look best if you
use a bit of hairspray and spritz onto a strand and give it a light twist so it's
more PC and kind of 90s the Navy top I'm wearing is from j.crew
and from this dial let's create the iconic Alaska bun from the poster
this top is the most inspired because I could not find that same a shirt that
she wears that's like a Jersey style t-shirt but I do have this retro giant
sports TV with similar sleeves so that's what I went with
and then I'm giving the base of the ponytail a bit of a tease so that when
we kind of create that loop for the bun it doesn't separate but creates more of
a rounded shape fold your pony over and use a second elastic to create that
bubble
I tighten the top of the bun and then I took a couple of bobby pins and brought
the sides towards my scalp now we have the hanging ends which we're gonna pin
up as well to balance out that loop and give an undead effect so scrunch up and
add a couple more bobby pins and there is the textured messy bun that is styled
it looks effortless like all of Alaska's books I am so excited for summer and I
can't wait to rock some bohemian hairstyles and I want to read more so if
you have a favorite summer read comment down below and let me know why I should
read it
thanks for watching I hope you guys enjoy that this Alaska young series of
outfits and hairstyles and if you did it makes you give it a thumbs up and
subscribe for more pop culture looks if I was to actually wear this style which
I actually really like I wouldn't go with the sneakers just cuz it's not my
style and I like height so I got these from ModCloth and I think it's like
really complements the look so this is how I personally would wear the style
and
and I have one more thing from the series I was going to include the
crimped hairstyle and then I was like I don't think it really goes with the
whole vibe of this tutorial but this is what Alaska wore for that like costume
party don't know even what she was supposed to be but this is from free
people and it's still available so I thought I would share that and let me
know in the comments if you have a favorite look or if you've tried a made
of deodorant oh my gosh carbs but so I'll have everything listed down below
that I've talked about including the native deodorant if you guys want to
check it out and thank you so much for tagging me in your recreations as always
I love to feature you in my videos so yeah thanks for watching and I will see
you guys in my next one
