This is anemotional poem about how we need to check on our friends.
Men do find it hard to reach out if they have worries or any mental health concerns. We need to get rid of the 'Man Up' stigma that men face.
The suicide figures for middle aged men, my age group, are horific.
If we Check on our friends more we may help to save a man from taking that final final step as they feel there is no other choice.
A simple text askng 'How are you feeling today?' may just get a response of 'I am struggling right now Dude....'
Let us all Check on our friends and get rid of the Man Up...so we can prevent another Man Down....x
Check on your brothers boys, I don't need to tell you why.
Is he okay? Have you seen him? We all let the time fly by.
Keep a lookout man, for sometimes there are signs.
Is he drinking more than normal? Has he done too many lines?
Check. Is he quiet when he's usually quite loud?
Does he seem not to care when he's always been so proud?
Check. Is he losing weight when you know he likes his food?
Is his smile hiding somewhere? And his face in a mood?
Check. Is he taking days off work when you know that's not his way?
Is he rearranging your meetings to be held on another day?
Check. Has he got home okay?
Yeah, I know he can handle himself, but no man is tougher than his fight with mental health.
Check. Is that sparkle in the back of his eyes now dim?
If it's a yes, then brother, please go check on him.
Keep an eye out for these signs boys, as we all see them far too late.
We don't want to lose another brother, father, nephew or mate.
We've got to stop all this rubbish that us men are just too proud.
If you are struggling with your mental health, please shout it out loud.
Or whisper to a friend, if it's your face that wears the frown.
Let us banish the stigma of man up, to stop another man down.
Check.
