The Perfect Italy Road Trip (must see spots in the Dolomites)

Italy is wonderful

We are going to be spending the night at the top of the Italian Dolomites.
Who wants to go up a gondola?
Me!
Hey, we're Stephen, Jess, Hunter and baby Koa.
Last week we went on a breathtaking adventure up in the mountains right here in the Dolomites.
They lock you in from the outside.
But there is still so much more to see here.
But even with this epic mountain views, we still get some quiet small moments with the family.
We're about to go on a little rowboat on the lake.
This is like an iconic thing to do.
This is so cute.
So come along for an adventure as we sleep amongst the mountains.
It's a pretty cool way to get to a place to stay tonight.
Never gets old, does it?
It's exciting every single time.
For our final night in the mountains.
Just found this little courtyard on the way to breakfast.
It's a little snuck up, more for storage.
But you can see the two beautiful churches right here.
Like this view.
It's stunning.
After going, we're going to make two pear juice.
Cheers.
Can you tell us what the apple juice tastes like?
Apple.
Straight from the tree?
Yeah, we picked.
We picked it.
So we are staying in this little hotel here.
And it almost feels like we're in like a mini walled Italian city.
We don't even want to use that word, town.
There's two churches.
We have cobblestone just here.
So we can walk around and it's so quiet.
And I just see all of these orchid trees in front of us.
It feels very peaceful.
Like we're just tucked away in this little kind of spot.
Look at all the chickens.
So currently staying, it's almost like a farm stay.
And I'm pretty sure the eggs we had this morning
were from these chickens.
So there's chickens, bunnies, goats, apple orchids.
I see they've got like a whole garden over here.
Can you say bock, bock, bock?
Oh, that is the cutest bunny.
Look!
Oh, this is a big zucchini.
Look at the size of that.
Second coffee.
Today we are attempting probably like the longest hike we've ever done with the kids.
So I'm having two coffees.
And it's a hot day too, but I think it's going to be worth it.
Okay guys, we are here during peak season here in the Dolomites.
And we kept saying, it's not that bad.
Like the crowds haven't been that crazy.
You guys, we just attempted to go and park,
to go and do this hike and it was insane.
So I think we might've arrived at 10.
The parking lot was already closed.
So basically you need to drive.
It's about an hour and a half walk from the car park
where we were having to go park.
So we went, we parked.
We had to line up maybe for a good 30 minutes
just to pay for a car park ticket.
So we did all that.
And then we went and lined up for the bus
that takes you up to the car park.
We originally wanted to park at the crowds.
Two buses came, people were scrambling.
Let's just say we didn't get on those two buses.
It was just mayhem.
So you know, we were like, you know what?
We're going to say today we were defeated with that hike.
And so we're going to go off and do something different,
but we will return.
We're going to have redemption.
So in a couple of days, you'll see.
We're going to go early and we're going to conquer that hike
because now that I've seen so many people
wanting to do that hike,
I now have FOMO and I want to do that hike.
Instead we're hitting the road
and we're going to another beautiful place
in the Dolomites, of course.
This time we are going to check out
one of the most beautiful lakes in all of the Dolomites.
We're currently just driving up to our hotel
and we didn't realize
that we were going to be surrounded by mountains.
It is so beautiful.
All these green meadows and mountains everywhere.
And here's the hotel.
It's our little home for the next two nights.
Okay, this place looks super nice.
I'm sure Jess will explain everything,
but pretty much to come into this area,
the government has decided
that between 9am and 4.30pm,
you cannot drive in here unless you have a permit.
Only way to get a permit is to be staying at a place.
I'm sure people have disagreements,
but I was driving around.
Of course, very thankful we are staying inside.
But it was quiet.
Like everyone's pretty much on a bike or a bus.
So it was very beautiful.
For the most visited place here in the Dolomites,
it was not crowded,
especially compared to this morning.
So super nice.
So we've come into a hotel.
We stay maybe five minutes away from the famous lake
and wow, the views.
Should we go first?
Oh, look, they give you little kids robes.
Is it really?
Yes.
They give you a little cart.
Oh my gosh, this is so cute.
I wonder what our view's gonna be, Hunter.
Oh, they need a little cup for Cola.
Need to see the view.
Do we see the mountains?
Let's see.
Oh, wow.
Look at our balcony.
Wow.
This looks so beautiful.
Oh, this is where we can have our coffee in the morning.
Oh, look at the mountains out here, Steve.
Are you kidding?
I feel like if you came here in the winter,
they've all these little ski slopes.
I feel like you could stay here
and then just go straight to the ski slopes and go up.
Do you see any more?
They're right here.
I see kids out there playing.
And look at the mountain out here, Steve.
Oh my gosh, this is so beautiful.
I'm so glad we ended up staying here.
I was just talking to Steve.
So we're basically 10 minutes down the road
from the most famous thing here in all of the Dolomites.
I think you've all probably seen the photos.
The lake is called Lagosti Brias.
I'm not too sure how to say it.
I'll put the text up.
But when you think of the Dolomites, you think of this lake.
And then we were looking,
and because we're here during peak season,
they closed the road off between nine to four, was it?
All these things, and I was like, you know what?
Let's just stay at a hotel really close to it.
So it means that we had the little pass
so we could come in and out whenever we wanted to.
It's 10 minutes down the road, so in the morning,
we're gonna wake up for sunrise, go to the lake.
This place also has a pool,
but it was a little bit more pricier.
Our budgeting has been around 100 to 200 euros a night
where we've been staying.
This place costs us 500 euro a night,
but they call it what, three quarters board?
So you get breakfast, afternoon tea,
and dinner for that price, and there's a pool,
and you're in a really good location.
So this was our little splurge of the trip,
but we showed them around a little.
True, come, come, let's see.
You get a cot, then you've got your bedroom.
How cute is the sun when we go down to our pool?
Are we gonna put our robes on?
Is that my robe?
I don't know.
Oh, actually, I think this is yours and this is Colin's.
That's so cute.
And what's in this room?
Oh, and then there's another bed for Hunter.
And we've got a TV, and then the balcony keeps going.
Look, so you have views on both.
Well, Hunter, I think you can connect to the other balcony.
Oh, yeah, wait, I'm gonna meet you on the other side.
This is your room, Hunter.
The girl has already come through.
Peek-a-boo.
All right, I think it's pool time, guys.
What do you reckon?
Whoa, should we all go in?
Yes.
Wow.
Looks like it opens in like an hour,
but let me show you guys.
Well, this is the sauna.
This is nice.
I'll have to go for a swim or hike tomorrow.
That would be great.
And then jumping straight into the water.
And then straight from the pool, they have a nice garden area.
That looks like a fairy tale.
I'm literally on the GoPro, which is not even giving it any sort of justice.
Wow, you know what?
I understand this is probably a place that's more popular in the winter,
but if this pool just extended out here, you can swim out to see that view.
Wow, okay.
I see where afternoon tea, dinner, breakfast is just above,
and we get the view of that.
Wow.
Anyway, I'm excited to jump in this pool.
So long since we've had a pool, and our family is at peak happiness.
Say hiya.
We've honestly just decided to take this afternoon super chill.
We went and had afternoon tea.
We just left the camera in the room.
It was nice to just hang out with the family.
We were going to go see the lake, but we realized we have all day tomorrow.
We might even wake up for sunrise to go and see the lake
and beat all the crowds and beat the heat.
It's not every day that you get a view like this from your balcony.
I think I might go get a couple of Aperol spritzers and watch the sunset.
All right, today we have learned our lesson.
We are much more organized today.
So we've come out to the lake.
It is currently 7.30, and if you are here during peak season,
this is what the parking looks like at 7.30.
Pretty good.
So you have lots of spots.
This is parking lot three.
The mountain in front of us.
It's just like taking up the entire sky.
Look at that.
It's like there's cliffs on either side,
and the mountain just takes up the entire middle.
It's crazy.
This is so beautiful, guys.
Oh, my God.
You ready?
We ran straight to the boat because we knew it would get busy,
and we were about to go on a little row boat on the lake.
But this is like an iconic thing to do.
I recommend come early, line up for the boat,
come and enjoy the boat, and then go for a walk around the lake.
It has definitely like that Lake Louise vibe.
Hey, everyone.
Both kids cuddling up here.
Look at this, mama.
This is so beautiful.
This is so cute.
Oh, yeah, water.
And the water's so blue, isn't it?
It's like a bluey, greeny color.
Oh, he's holding you.
This is so gorgeous.
This is like a must.
You have to come do this.
It is so beautiful.
You know, it's like those pinch me moments
where you can't believe you're here.
It's so beautiful.
Just amazing to be here.
It's giving me...
If you guys saw when we stayed in the high Tatras mountains
and we came on the boat,
you can also do this in Lake Louise and Banff.
And it's just...
When there's this lake just right in front of it,
it is so picture-perfect.
Almost like it's just been placed here for the beauty.
I mean, just look at that.
It's easy.
You're probably going to get a little dizzy.
It's pretty.
I think Sarah need us.
Mom's trying.
What am I doing?
If you want to go that way, just use that one.
I'm spinning.
Hunter, come on.
Could you do better?
Hunter, why don't you give mommy a hand?
Put your hands on top of mine.
Are you ready?
What?
How are we now moving?
Hunter, are you kidding me?
When did you learn to row?
Well, you know how.
Look at us go.
Go Hunter.
Is it heavy?
Yeah.
It's a workout.
That's for sure.
If you duck your head behind Hunter,
it looks very funny because you're wearing the same outfit.
I'm going to look at Dad and say,
I'm rowing by myself.
It's just me.
It's just Hunter.
She's a champ knowing how to row.
Hey, buddy.
You know that we should probably be doing the rowing.
It's kind of nice how I've just been able to relax.
All little guy wants to do is pick...
Oh, I found a good one.
Pick up a rock and ditch it in some water.
He could do this all day.
It's a good one, huh?
This one.
Yes.
Oh, so cute.
We wanted to go for an afternoon walk somewhere
and we saw there was another lake
15 minutes from where we were staying.
And this one has a pram friendly trail around the lake.
And we've just come down and here you can get paddle boats.
Oh my gosh, there's paddle boats, Dad.
And again, the mountains, the greenery, blue water.
But this is a nice lake because it's much more calmer.
Like the other lake was so busy.
So I'm like, you can go there, do the row boat.
And then when you want to have a nice walk around,
come down here because look how quiet it is.
It is 5pm.
So people might not come out then,
but very peaceful and calm and quiet at this lake.
All the swans are coming.
I feel like they think you're throwing food.
Yeah, do you see duck?
You see them all?
Yeah.
Yeah, they're all coming for you.
What do you mean they're freezing?
It's ice.
Go Hunter.
Hunter handles the cold better than you, Dad.
What's this though?
All right, just do slowly and see if it's too cold.
Yeah, you're walking in.
Go Hunter.
I do love that when you come to Italy,
you can get such different landscapes
from Tuscany to the beaches of the South.
And then look at this.
It doesn't even look like it's the same country.
Beautiful.
As I'm sure you guys know that at times,
travel can be super stressful on the mind.
And between me and you,
I used to not think much of meditation.
I used to find it hard to focus on exercises.
My mind would constantly be racing.
Whether it was me thinking about work or parenting
or an upcoming travel day,
I just felt like this isn't for me.
But thanks to today's sponsor Headspace,
I've been slowly finding the importance
of breathing exercises and meditation practices
as they make it so easy to use simple techniques
to improve your focus.
Being completely honest with you guys,
when I first initially jumped into the Headspace app,
I thought it would be completely daunting,
finding 30 minutes to an hour to sit down to meditate.
But it was such a relief
when I felt like I was not the only person feeling this.
Straight away, I jumped in
and they offered a simple three to five minute meditation
to get me used to it, to understand the exercises.
And ever since then,
I've made sure that meditation is part of my daily routine.
Having shorter exercises and longer exercises
really does fit into our schedule.
From travel, having two little ones,
having it five, 10 minutes a day,
right up to 30 to 60 minutes,
really does help me with my schedule.
From being right here in the incredible Dolomites,
waking up for sunrise, grabbing a coffee,
doing some meditation exercises
has really led to some zen moments.
Now we're so glad that we had Headspace
introduced to us with meditation
and we really want to pass that on to you guys.
And we had a chat to the team over at Headspace.
And normally these trials,
they're usually like seven days or two weeks,
but we managed to chat to them
to give you guys a 60 day free trial
using our exclusive discount code linked below.
You can check the QR code here.
Make sure you check it out.
And if you do, please let us know
on how you guys go with your meditation journey.
I would just love to see this place in the winter.
It is so beautiful.
This place is so kid-friendly.
We just went and put Koaw down for a nap
and then we woke up
and we saw there's a little restaurant down there.
I feel like if you're not staying here
and you go to the lake,
you should go to this restaurant.
It has such beautiful views of the mountain,
but we got to go down afternoon tea.
This is where we've been having afternoon tea.
And look at the view behind us.
So if we mentioned earlier
how all our food is included
and the food has been so good.
For breakfast, we had boiled eggs,
where you like boil them yourself
in the little boiling thing.
And they tell you how many-
Honey straight from the honeycomb.
Yes, and then dinner.
Last night we sat down and had dinner.
We were like, let's just relax, have some dinner.
Five course meal.
Yeah.
Five courses.
It was like a two-hour affair
and they bring you dessert
and they also have a separate dessert buffet.
It was amazing.
And it was like 9 p.m.
We were like, let's just grab some apple strudel
and head to bed.
All we've been doing is looking at views and eating.
And so now we're going to go for afternoon tea.
And we're going to eat and-
And then just enjoy the views.
It's like a full lunch.
They say afternoon tea, it's a full lunch.
This morning is a bit of a reality
of traveling in the Dolomites.
This is definitely the windiest roads
I think we've ever traveled on.
And Cole was car sick this morning
coming up to such a beautiful place
but it was so unbelievably windy.
Like, can you see the mountains behind me?
So cleaning them up,
hoping there's a place that we can buy a top or something.
But the reason that we've come out here
is because on Google we were looking
and this place, it says the best view of Dolomites.
Is that what it says?
And we saw that and we're like, cool, let's drive there.
And then we got here and we're like, yep.
It's, I think it's a pretty good view.
Did you want to go in the chairlift again?
Do you want to go up up?
Yeah.
Every time we drive and they spot a gondola
they all yell out, gondola, gondola.
Do you want to go up?
Yeah.
Okay, let's go.
Oh, look, Stephen says we're starting at 2,500 meters
and we're going to go up to 3,200 meters.
All right, you just go under
cause you don't have a ticket.
Thank you.
Because you're too little,
we didn't even have to pay for you.
Thank you.
How was that?
The car was not wet.
Yeah.
All right, come on.
You can sit up on your bottom quick.
Quickly.
Good work.
Be careful.
Very careful.
And we're in.
Thank you.
It looks crazy.
It never gets old, does it?
It's exciting every single time.
Bye.
We're going over wet bits.
Oh, here we go.
I think one of the things that are making
this trip to Dolomites so fun
is that we did a lot of pre-planning
and then now we've kind of come towards the end
and we're pretty satisfied with what we've seen so far.
So today was just, let's go on an adventure
and it's really fun to just come up here,
hop on a gondola and just see where it takes you.
We don't know where this is going to take us.
We just thought, hey, the mountains are beautiful.
Make the most of our time here.
Wow.
I feel like this is the first time
we've come back to the mountains.
The mountains are super close to us.
We're currently surrounded by almost
these serrated edged mountains all through here
and behind us.
Oh, look behind us, Steve.
Amazing.
Look at that.
Google's right.
Look at it.
So I looked up on the sign.
It's called Passo Gardena.
And...
Look at you being confident with your Italian name.
It's a little bit easier to say this one.
But we're on a chairlift
and then it looks like when you get to the top,
there's a gondola on that side too.
It does feel weird though
that they let you just hop on here
and you know, I'm just holding on to colour.
It's a little scary.
Luckily, he's one of these kids
that'll just chill out.
Are you clapping?
Yay, we're almost done.
There we go.
We're at the top.
And we lift up.
One, two, oh.
Jump, jump, jump, run, run, run, run.
That's the funnest bit.
Jumping off.
This is the first time we've gone to a restaurant
and like ordered the pasta.
Uncle was excited.
It looks incredible.
It's interesting.
Their pasta is in their starters menu.
So I'm like, are people expected to eat this
and then eat a main?
Because this is their starter.
And then there's like, you know,
the steak or whatever on the main.
It's crazy.
And like the views that we have.
We've decided our favourite thing
is to go off a gondola
and then eat at the restaurant.
We really should be hiking up these mountains, Dave.
Whenever we come to Italy,
we become foodies
because Italian is like our favourite cuisine ever.
And you can tell these are like handmade pasta.
It's a mushroom one.
Should I dig into one of the raviolis
just to see what's in it?
Look at the presentation.
I know, it's amazing.
I can't remember what it was.
Oh, spinach.
You can never go wrong with pasta.
Oh my gosh.
It's so good, Steve.
They stir it in a...
They stir it in a bowl and then...
I can't do it.
How do the Italians do it?
They put it in a spoon.
And then they make a noo-noo lollipop.
Oh dear.
Wow.
Do you like Italian food?
Are you kidding?
I'm not even sure if you're meant to use it like this,
but it makes it.
Noah, your little backpack.
Does it work?
Hunter wanted to be a backpack too,
so we did it.
How do you feel?
It's an incredible pasta.
We thought we'd do at least some sort of hike
just around the back end of the gondola.
There's this little trail
and just...
I can't believe what I'm walking towards.
Incredible.
The sights are just so beautiful up here.
Are you enjoying the daddy backpack, huh?
You seem pretty cute and cosy in there.
Now coming up here,
we've realised that there are three ways
you can get up here.
There's two gondolas and the chairlift
and it looks like one of the gondolas
takes us to the town that we're staying at tonight.
So I think what I'm going to do
is I'm going to go take the kids down the gondola,
Stephen will go down and get the car
and we'll race him down there
and that means Koa won't get car sick.
I think that'll be a good idea.
Just soaking in the views.
Amazing.
I've realised if you come here with kids,
you take the cable car up.
This is where we ate
but there is a pram friendly trail
that you can take all the way to this little hut
where they serve food and a playground.
It was just closed today
and then you can take the gondola down to the town
which I think is a really cool way to spend your day.
So that's what we're going to go do.
So we're going to go to the town.
Stephen will meet us here
because this is where we're staying for the night.
I kind of wish this was open.
That would have been really nice.
See, the pram.
They tell you if it's a pram
or if it's a bike
or if it's just a hike.
But yeah, I just love it.
It's very organised
and you can really see how you should spend your day.
Should we go in?
So this pass is actually a super famous pass
for cycling, for hiking
and I suppose for driving
because our little one-year-old Paul Koa Bean
just got so unbelievably car sick
and we just saw that gondola.
We had no idea.
Like I told you guys,
we had zero plans for today.
It was just find a beautiful spot,
some good food
and just enjoy these moments.
And then we saw the gondola
and I was like,
let me look on Google Maps
and then we figured out
it goes to the little town
that's like five minutes
from where we're staying tonight.
So we said,
let's chuck him in that
because I don't think dude
with a belly full of pasta
can make it to the bottom.
Which just also blows my mind
that we live in a time
when it is so accessible
to come up mountains.
Like maybe because we're Australian,
we just don't really have
these gigantic mountains in front of us.
I mean, I suppose we've got
like the blue mountains and stuff
but just being able to come here
and there's like three
or four different ways
to come up a mountain.
We could drive up here.
I'm sure like not that long ago
it would just be hiking
to see these views
and we can just lazily
enjoy a gondola ride.
I would love for you guys
like we are so thankful.
We just have ample enough
of the world's beautiful beaches
in Australia.
So seeing a beach overseas
is like we got them back home.
I'd love to know with you guys
like leave a comment below
what is the thing
that just makes you go wow
because for us it is 100% mountains.
We've come to a brand new area
called Trentino
and we've decided
we've looked at the mountains
for this entire trip.
We want to go and actually stay in one.
This refuge we're staying at tonight
we can't get there by car
so I think we're going to have
to pack a night bag.
Ready.
I feel like a hiker now
with my backpack on.
All righty guys wait for mama.
Steve it's the last time I can say it.
Who wants to go up a gondola?
Me.
Oh this one looks like
you go up so high.
Yeah that's only the first one.
Yeah we have to take two
to get to the top of this mountain.
I wonder if you're the only person
in the world that's gone up a mountain
with a suitcase.
It's got all our valuables
and we're too scared to leave it in the car.
It's fine.
I got the kids you got the suitcase.
Let's do this.
All right.
Perfect thank you.
All righty and we're off.
Pretty cool way to get to a place to stay tonight.
I absolutely would not have brought
this much luggage.
I could have just done the backpack
but when there's way too many valuables in there
we're just leaving it in a random car park.
I thought to bring it
but it was fine.
Separating Jess and Hunter and co-op there
and then just me and the stuff.
This is very beautiful.
We definitely thought after seeing the mountains
that we need to just spend the night in the mountains.
It's actually our final night here in the Dolomites
before we head to a new part of Italy.
Totally would be up for the hike.
I think it's about just over an hour and a half
if you want to do the hike up
which isn't much but with little ones not possible.
Just with what we're packing at the moment
but it's very cool that we can go
and have an experience of living in the mountain.
The Dolomites has done so well
in terms of accessibility.
And look at that view behind me.
This is not where we're staying tonight.
There's one more here
but this is kind of what they look like.
It's these little refuges on the top of the mountains
and they kind of built them
especially for either the summer people hiking
and then there's a place to stay between the hikes
or if you come skiing
you come and you ski and then you stay up here
and they all have little restaurants.
Can't wait to see ours.
All right, one more gondola guys.
This is definitely giving the vibes
of when we stayed at that hostel in Switzerland.
I don't know if you guys seen that video.
I'll pop it up here
except for there's definitely a lot more rustic
on the chairlift.
I think that one was like a full enclosed
That's where we're staying tonight.
Wow, we are really like
we are on top, top, top of the mountain.
Look at this.
You can't go much higher
unless you climb up with ropes.
We are sleeping on top of a mountain.
Did you see all the rock climbers on the way up?
Yes.
There were people climbing up on the rocks.
It was awesome.
It's either that or people cycling down
and it just looks so scary.
They're bumping down.
And here's where we're going to stay.
How cool.
So it was built in 1956.
So cool.
So cozy.
Bunk beds.
No way.
Yeah.
Well, that's not the bunk bed.
Hunter will show you.
Bunk bed?
This is on the top.
This is on the top?
Uh-oh.
Hi Bean.
He's learned how to climb.
Are you going up?
Okay.
This is so cool.
Do you love it?
This refugio is so awesome.
It's literally just all these very small rooms
down these corridors.
You even have snowshoes.
You got pickaxes.
It definitely still has the vibe
because this was built in the 1950s.
Wow.
So it looks like pretty much all the rooms.
There's got to be maybe a dozen rooms here
or above the restaurant.
So the restaurant, they do dinner at seven.
You pre-order it and then breakfast at seven
the next morning.
Yes.
Cheers, everyone.
To our final night in the mountains.
You know what guys?
That hike up here.
Definitely deserve one of these.
When the kids are older,
we have no excuse and we have to do all the hikes.
Even Hunter saw the hikers.
She was like, should we be doing the hike?
I didn't have a carrier for the kid.
Next time when the kids are older,
we're going to be those hiking families, right?
I love hiking.
Like we did that one through the Philippines,
which was amazing.
But there's something about having the local drink
in the country.
I don't know about you guys.
There's, we never order Aperol Spritz.
Whenever we're in Italy, we order Aperol Spritz.
The last time we had one
was when we were in Tuscany two years ago.
Even in the South, limoncello,
but it almost feels wrong having limoncello
up here in the mountains.
Oh, you're planning new ventures with your friends?
Are you all going to hike together?
In the desert.
In the desert?
How amazing is this?
The sun is just about to set.
Here, little Colbert.
He's fallen asleep.
We actually had a big day today.
We took some time off the camera.
We're hanging out with the kids
and he's just completely zonked.
But it was so cool.
As we were driving here,
it's the one thing we didn't capture on the camera,
but it's on the phone, remember?
We went out for a little coffee
and then a band just rocked up,
played two songs, like a full blown band.
Played two songs and then left.
I don't know what it was about, but it was pretty cool.
But, so this place includes dinner and breakfast.
So we're going to have a little mountain dinner.
See what they eat up in the mountain.
It is kind of quiet in here,
but they have served us,
I'm calling it a mountain dumpling.
They said, what, bread, spinach, cheese?
Yes.
Never had anything like it before.
Let's see.
Let's do a big cut.
You know what it tastes like?
The inside of ravioli.
Oh, I like it.
But they haven't put the pasta around the outside.
Oh, wow.
Is it good?
Yeah, it's good.
It does feel like I'm eating stuffing.
Like a vegetarian stuffing.
Next up, they call it cheese polenta.
That was like the veggie option on the menu.
It looks very cheesy.
Don't laugh at my meal.
You've got to try this too.
It looks like, interesting.
Hey, something we haven't had in Italy.
It tastes like cheese porridge.
Porridge with cheese on top.
Hunter, want to try my cheese porridge?
Whole bite, like I have.
Yes, Hunter.
What do you think?
Is it good?
When your date's fallen asleep on you.
Is it jelly?
Does it wobble?
Oh, it's called panna cotta.
You can have a little taste, see if you like it.
Yeah, I'm going to...
Oh, wait.
I think I'm going to taste this better.
One of the options is fruit.
I was expecting like a little fruit plate to come up,
but it was an apple on a plate.
Oh, okay.
Let me try.
Panna cotta?
That's good.
That is good.
That's good?
What do you rate the apple?
Two million hundred pounds.
Just came outside to see you guys in the morning.
So we've just woken up to our final day here in the Dolomites.
And there is...
It's so hard to describe what it feels like to wake up in the mountains.
It is so quiet.
There's like a little chill in the air.
We just watched the most beautiful sunset coming up over the mountains.
Beautiful.
I don't know when the next time is that we're going to be in mountains.
So we're trying to take it all in.
This is such a beautiful spot.
I always think, how did they build this up here?
Like there's nothing out here.
And in the fifties.
I know, in the fifties.
Did they like put all the pieces of wood on the cable car that we came up here?
It was the cable car.
It's not even a cable car.
It's like a chairlift.
No, I'm sure the chairlift came first.
Not that we're in any rush to leave.
But unless we're doing the two hour hike down, which we kind of can't.
You're kind of trapped up here until the gondolas start working, but it's okay.
It's like 8.30.
I think the guy just has his breakfast here.
And then he goes up there to switch it on.
I think the thing that makes staying here extra special.
It's just only a handful of people.
I was just kind of counting at breakfast.
Less than a dozen people.
And it means you get this entire place to yourself before the hikers.
Everyone just coming for like day trips up here.
I mean, you guys can come up here if you want.
You don't have to stay.
You can come grab a coffee or an apple spritz.
I see the first person is heading up.
I don't know if it's a worker or just someone coming to enjoy.
But wow.
What a spectacular last day here in the mountains.
Alrighty.
I will admit this was an absolutely incredible bucket list day.
This is probably my favorite stay we did in the entire times in the Dolomites.
It would be infinitely more rewarding to come up here.
If you dig the hike up, I would suggest that if you are fit and able.
And maybe your kids are a little bit older, but still,
I still feel very satisfied coming up here, but we need to head down.
We have a bit of a drive today.
So we've got two gondolas and it's going to be a beautiful view.
And now we head down and the second one and we're off.
This one is way faster and way funner.
And I'm kind of glad, you know, like the Switzerland one was the self-enclosed one.
This one makes it way more of an adventure.
Alrighty, got a bit of a drive to do today,
but we thought we actually had planned to stay two more nights in the Dolomites,
but we feel very satisfied with what we have seen.
So we've actually changed our plans around
and we do need to get to Venice in about two days time.
We're going to make a little bit of a stop over
before we get to Venice to show you guys a new area.
You know, this afternoon is going to be adventure when you have a helper.
So I've actually driven about 40 minutes into the middle of the lake.
Like if you split it, look at it on a satellite view
and then hiked up about 20 minutes.
Because today I'm going to be doing something very cool I haven't done in a very long time.
It's just me because kids can't come.
Doing something today called canyoning.
And just think it as Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider action.
You're jumping a waterfall, sliding down slides all through the nature.
It's not like a specific course or anything.
It's going to be good.
I'm like already sweating from the hike.
It's going to be a lot of waterfalls, a lot of water.
And I'm very pumped to jump into it just to cool down.
Looks like the trail is beginning.
We're going to get soaking wet this entire trip.
So we might as well start to pull it down.
Nice.
I float.
So refreshing.
So we're starting right at the top of the waterfall
and we're going to be making our way down,
following the water and the path that nature creates for us.
Let's see.
I'm stuck.
That was awesome.
That was an awesome first start.
That was like 20, 30 meters.
It's like jumping straight into it.
A bit more green.
All right, we're going to do a jump.
Why am I going first?
We go inside.
Oh yeah, I see.
Oh yeah.
That one had the heart pumping, that one.
Oh wow.
How many meters is this?
50!
Jeez.
I swear he's just messing with me at this point.
That good?
That was incredible.
We're 50 meters down.
I slid down at least 40 of those before I'm sailing down.
Wow and look at this little ravine.
You can see them just up there.
The camera doesn't zero justice on how big it is.
Oh and now we just get a nice cool trim.
All right, we've made it to the end.
It's incredible.
Like two, three hours we've been going.
We've got one more jump before we have to hike back up to the car.
That has been incredible.
I'm exhausted.
