If you've ever been to Dubai, then you'll know about the glitz and glamour of this outstanding
city. Dubai is the crown jewel of the United Arab Emirates and has grown rapidly over the
last few decades. Billions of dollars have been pumped into this Arabic metropolis,
with desert and mangrove swamps being replaced by astonishing high-rise skyscrapers,
amongst other feats of extravagant engineering. From underwater theme parks to man-made luxury
islands, these are the 15 most amazing mega-projects of Dubai.
Theme park will be separated from the rest of the development by a three-story high wall.

Underwater Rail Network. Yep, Dubai is planning to build an enormous 2,000-kilometer-long
underwater railway that connects Mumbai to Fujairah, just outside Dubai. This high-speed
bullet train will provide an easy and convenient link between India and the United Arab Emirates,
covering an epic total distance of 1.5 million kilometers.
Sounds amazing, right? And it only gets better. This unique train journey will just take about
two hours from start to finish. In order to go the distance in record-breaking time,
the ultra-speed floating train will travel at 600 to 1,000 kilometers per hour,
faster than most planes in the sky. While the underwater rail will carry oil from Dubai to
Mumbai, excess freshwater from the Narmada River in India will also be exported to the Middle East,
and the bullet train will even transport passengers too. So how does it work? Well,
submerged tubes will be stabilized by pontoons and placed deep enough to avoid ships in extreme
weather. Inside the tunnel, a tight vacuum will be created in order to withstand pressure and
allow the trains to run at high speeds. And the man behind this awesome technology has a few more
unbelievable projects up his sleeves, too. National Advisory Bureau Limited's chief consultant
Abdullah Al-Shahai has some incredible ideas. For example, he plans to renovate the desolate,
empty corridor desert into a fertile garden, bustling with plant life. Oh yeah, and did we
mention he's planning on bringing an iceberg from Antarctica all the way to Fujairah? Yeah,
the underwater train really is just the tip of this iceberg.
Aladdin City Built along the historic Dubai Creek,
developers are dreaming up a staggering 4,000-acre complex of towers inspired by characters from the
legendary Arabian Nights, based upon the beloved tales of Aladdin and Simba the sailor. This epic
complex will feature six towers linked by air-conditioned bridges with moving walkways.
You know that air conditioning is absolutely vital in the scorching heat of Dubai. To stick
with the theme, they have envisioned towers resembling Aladdin's magic lamp. And the designs
for this golden structure really are magnificent. But this 34-story megaproject will cost a whole
lot more than three wishes from the genie. In United Arab Emirates' dirham currency,
the Aladdin City is forecast to cost a whopping $1,835 billion. We can't wait to see what this
fantasy-inspired luxury complex will look like when it's finally built.
Dubai's Museum of the Future Dubai has one of the most iconic and
remarkable skylines in the world, and they're still nowhere near finished. That's right,
one of the latest megastructures to pop up is this mysterious giant eye nestled amongst the
famous Emirates Towers. Shaped like a torus, or what you might call a donut, the new Museum of
the Future is an ambitious feat of engineering and architecture. The solid part of the structure
represents knowledge we've already learned as the human race. The hole in the center represents
the things we don't know yet. Pretty smart, huh? And we wouldn't expect anything less from a museum
that has set itself on the mission of exploring the challenges and technologies that shape our
future. Yep, everything from climate change to medical breakthroughs will be exhibited at the
stunning Museum of the Future. From the outside, it's breathtaking. Constructed from shining
stainless steel and etched with elegant Arabic calligraphy, not only does it look good,
but it does good. The museum will be powered by a solar plant and even provide electric car
charging facilities in their parking lot. Executive Director Lath Carlson explains,
we're not focused on flashy futuristic gadgets. We want to look at questions like,
how might people live in a near-Earth orbit space station? How might we respond to ecosystem
collapse? And then to bring it closer to the individual, how might we focus on wellness and
emotional health in the future? Yep, underneath its flashy exterior, this project has a real heart.
Stay tuned as this awesome museum is set to make its debut at the World Expo in October of 2020.
Dubai Harbor
Dubai Harbor is set to be the next big destination. Think luxury hotels,
apartments, restaurants, and shopping. These are all the finer things you can expect from
this mega-complex on the beachfront of Al Sufou, and developers are hoping to launch
this incredible harbor in time for the World Expo 2020. If you love sailing or just love to
live up on the water, then this huge hub is the place for you. It's set to be the largest
yachting community in the Middle East with a whopping 1,100 berths in the marina. Dubai Harbor
will sprawl over a staggering 20 million square feet and even has enough room to comfortably fit
525 luxury yachts in its moorings. Only the best of the best in Dubai.
Blue Waters Island
From the harbor to the island, Blue Waters Island to be exact, this man-made island is
being held as a lifestyle destination and is bound to be a hit with the young vibrant population
living and working in bustling Dubai. This island experience has it all, high-end restaurants,
designer shopping, and even housing, all accessible by a bridge to the mainland.
It even has its own monorail system that's linked to Dubai's metro stations.
Island life has never been so urban, but the star of the show has to be the awe-inspiring
Ain Dubai. This enormous attraction is the world's largest observation wheel,
standing at an eye-watering 689 feet tall. Yep, if you're scared of heights,
you might want to steer clear of the Dubai Eye and stick to shopping. Now,
if this sounds like paradise to you, it might be worth knowing that this idyllic location
comes at a hefty cost. Blue Waters Island costs a whopping $6 billion dirham to construct.
Whoa, Dubai has some serious cash to spend. This is no ordinary city after all.
Dubai Creek Tower
Dubai seems to have an unofficial motto, go big or go home. Developers EMAR have plans to build
the tallest tower in the world, surpassing Tokyo's Skytree. Rumors of a 2,717-foot-tall tower have
filled the city with excitement, and it looks like they might be well on their way to break
another architectural world record. Of course, another record smash comes with a massive price
tag, $3.67 billion to be precise. That's $1 billion in the United States. This expensive
tower is expected to be completed in 2021 at the very earliest, but we're sure it will be
spectacular. In fact, this state-of-the-art tower will emit a beacon of light from its peak at
night. At the very top of the tower, there will be 10 observation decks, offering stunning 360-degree
views of the city. Its design is inspired by a traditional minaret, commonly seen on mosques
used for call to prayer. This ground-breaking tower seeks to be an iconic symbol of Islamic
culture. Even His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai,
has given his seal of approval on the mega project, and he had the final say on the winning
design. Once built, the Dubai Creek Tower will house some very special VIP observation garden
decks, inspired by one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
We're sure that once completed, this will be another sensational reason to visit Dubai.
Maiden One Mall
Dubai has its fair share of shopping destinations, but this mega mall certainly stands out from the
crowd. When it's completely finished, the Maiden One Mall will be home to the world's longest
indoor ski slope, the world's largest dancing fountain, and a total of 620 shops, including
two department stores. Yup, this supermall is seeking to break at least seven world records.
In true Dubai fashion, it's located in between the Maiden Hotel and Al Khael Road, and part of
its fabulous contemporary design includes a futuristic retractable roof that will protect
the mall from the elements in winter as well as open up for some sun-soaked albeit air-conditioned
shopping in the summer. Grocery shopping and luxury designer goods will all be housed in one
mega mall that's bound to draw crowds from all over the globe. Retail therapy has never looked
so glamorous. Dubai Frame
So, we bet you've never seen a building quite like this one before. This unusual yet iconic
structure literally frames the jaw-dropping views of both old and new Dubai. If you peer
through this giant frame-shaped building towards the north, you can gaze upon the historic
neighborhoods of old-fashioned Dubai. However, glance towards the south, and you can get an
amazing view of modern metropolis, complete with snazzy skyscrapers and record-breaking architecture.
Yup, this frame is not only the passage between two worlds, but it also holds the title,
the world's largest frame. Only in Dubai, right? This astonishing building is made of glass,
aluminum, steel, and reinforced concrete structure, and it also functions as a 492-foot
observation tower. Yup, the Dubai Frame is definitely worth a visit. You literally won't
get an experience like this anywhere in the world. While it is a breathtaking addition to
Dubai's second-to-none skyline, it's somewhat surrounded by controversy. This mega project
was conceived by Fernando Donis, who won a design competition run by the government of Dubai.
It's alleged that the designer had his intellectual property stolen
and was even denied credit for this incredible design. Yikes!
Palm Jumeirah Okay, so this amazing mega project has to
be one of Dubai's most famous creations. Nestled out into the Arabian Gulf, this palm-tree-shaped
archipelago was totally man-made. Yup, Dubai has officially built its own islands. Hey,
why not? It cost a whopping $12 billion, but money really is no object when it comes to
five-star experiences in the Middle East. The incredible Palm Jumeirah comes complete with a
three-mile-long trunk and an arch of palm fronds that are home to luxury villas and fancy hotels.
This giant 10-mile-long resort is even visible from space. Getting around this enormous island
retreat is no problem at all, as the palm is home to its first ever monorail in the Middle East.
You don't even have to worry about walking around this luxurious archipelago.
Not when you've got a whole lot of sunbathing to keep you busy. Don't forget your sunscreen!
Jewel of the Creek On this beautiful banks of Dubai Creek,
developers have been hard at work planning their next big venture. Welcome to the Jewel of the
exactly? Well, plans include 17 high-rise blocks around a marina with posh-serviced apartment
buildings, an enormous convention center, and, of course, plenty of shops and restaurants to
keep Dubai locals busy. The 124,000-square-meter site will even contain an entirely man-made
island that comes complete with a five-star hotel. Come on, you can never have enough
man-made islands when it comes to Dubai, and it really wouldn't be a Dubai megaproject without
breaking a world record or two. The blueprints include a 1,312-foot-wide swimming pool that's
over 13 feet deep, making it the largest swimming pool in the Middle East. Just what you need in
that desert heat! Dubai Miracle Garden
It might be the last thing you'd ever expect to see in the middle of the desert, but Dubai is
home to a 72,000-square-meter floral garden. This epic miracle garden is the world's largest flower
garden. However, due to the scorching heat of the United Arab Emirates, this amazing megaproject is
shut from May to September due to high temperatures, usually averaging over 40 degrees Celsius.
So, if you're planning on admiring the flowers of your summer vacation, then think again. When the
park is open, you can marvel over an amazing display of 50 million flowers of over 120
varieties. Some of its most popular attractions include a romantic tunnel of hearts made of
gorgeous blooms, as well as a floral castle and a passage of colorful umbrellas. We don't know
about you, but we want to check this place out. Opened to the public since Valentine's Day back
in 2013, the miracle garden is now home to the world's largest topiary structure, according to
the Guinness World Records. Yep, a 60-foot Mickey Mouse was made with 100,000 flowers, and it weighs
over 35 tons. That's one giant mouse. Pearl of Dubai. Get your snorkels at the ready. This next
fantastic megaproject is heading offshore and into the cool depths of the Gulf. The Pearl of
Dubai is now under development and aims to be an awesome five-acre underwater wonderland, inspired
by the blockbuster hits Pirates of the Caribbean and Avatar. Who wouldn't want to dive down into
the fantasy world, complete with epic temples and lifelike props? Developers hope that when guests
swim down into the theme park, they will experience the thrill of discovering the legendary lost city
of Atlantis for the very first time. Hey, sign us up. You can even learn to scuba dive at the
spectacular Pearl of Dubai. We've never seen a theme park quite like this. The brains behind
this one-of-a-kind project is the company Reef World, a California-based firm who wants to design
this underwater playground as sustainably as possible and even breathe new life into degraded
reefs. Fun and eco-friendly, the Pearl of Dubai really does sound too good to be true. There's
no clear date on completion just yet, but we really can't wait to see it come alive.
Taj Arabia. Yep, you guessed it. This incredible megaproject is a replica of India's world-famous
Taj Mahal, the luxurious palace that draws millions of visitors to its iconic grounds
each year. However, this eye-catching building has gone even bigger and bolder than its predecessor.
Yep, the Taj Arabia is four times the size of the original and cost more than $350 million to build.
But this is no ordinary palace. The Taj Arabia is actually a 300-room five-star hotel,
complete with apartments, restaurants, and shops. Developers hope that this Indian-inspired complex
will become the world's biggest wedding destination and draw in lovestruck couples
from all over the globe for a luxury romantic getaway. Just when you thought this project
couldn't get any grander, the Taj Arabia is actually part of the 3.8-million-square-meter
Falcon City of Wonders located on the Emirates Road. Yep, this megacity is also set to include
gigantic replicas of other famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower
and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Whatever will Dubai think up next?
Al Maktoum International Airport
Now, all these marvelous attractions are boosting tourism in Dubai, putting the imaginative and
glamorous metropolis on the map as one of the coolest cities in the world. And more tourism
means more planes flying in every day, so it only seems fitting that a major expansion of
Dubai's second airport, Al Maktoum International, is underway. This mega renovation will open in
2030, the Emirates government said, five years later than anticipated. Officials seem to be
hopeful that it will be worth the wait as the new and improved airport will be able to host more
than 260 million passengers a year. Whoa, that's a lot of tourists! No wonder there are so many
luxury hotels in Dubai. Passengers aside, the airport has a capacity of over 12 million tons
of cargo and is even capable of handling all new generational aircraft such as the mammoth
A380 Super Jumbo. But the real question is, will the new airport break any world records? You bet!
A 91-meter-high air traffic control tower will be an aviation landmark and the tallest freestanding
ACT tower in the Middle East. Exciting times! These things don't come cheap though and the
expansion will cost a whopping $36 billion. The Dynamic Tower
We really are living in the future. Dubai has outdone itself by proposing plans for a
mind-blowing skyscraper that rotates a full 360 degrees from its base. Yep, the world's first
rotating skyscraper will be capable of turning clockwise and anti-clockwise, creating a dynamic
tower like no other building on the planet. The visionary behind this ambitious project
is the architect David Fisher of Dynamic Architecture. The skyscraper will be 80 stories
high and soar over 1,200 feet tall. Each individual apartment in this extraordinary building would be
able to spin independently and you could even control its speed and rotation with voice-activated
technology. Whoa! Imagine a view of the entire city right from your front room. This super-sleek
skyscraper will lead the way in eco-friendly technology with 79 wind turbines between each
story and solar panels on the roof powering the bizarre building. Unfortunately, living in the
lap of luxury in a rotating condo doesn't come cheap and the price for one of these state-of-the-art
apartments could be as much as $40 million. However, when it comes to Dubai real estate,
that really feels like a drop in the ocean. We are officially adding Dubai to our travel
bucket list. This modern metropolis really has it all and then some more. Yep, Dubai is the
ultimate destination for glamour and luxury and the future for this city is extremely bright.
