Abandoned THEATRE And LIBRARY Wales

Today we are at a performing arts college that was established in 1927. It is located amongst truly stunning landscape overlooking the sea and opposite a cliffside castle ruin. Abandoned in 2017 due to a leak in the auditorium's copper roof that the landlord couldn't afford to fix, it has sat here frozen in time. The majority of this site remains in pristine condition to this day although sadly some areas are now being affected by mold. The campus is centred around a house built in 1907 from blocks of local greystone. It also includes an art deco style library, 266 capacity theatre, a gymnasium and a tower block used for student accommodation. The structures that stand in the garden are grade 2 listed. Right here we go guys. Wow check out that view guys. Oh here we go. Oh my god wait till you see this mate. Pretty mental. That's what I thought as well. Wow oh my god look the projector's still there as well. Guys check this out. This area that holds the theatre was completely destroyed by fire in 1968 and was redesigned into what you see here today. It's now seeking at least £150,000 to repair the damaged roof and make it safe for use again. That is amazing. What a place. Put your different colours in. Oh right that's how they do it yeah. It's all filled in but yeah this actually gives the power for the sound as well. Not just audio mixing it's actually an amplifier as well. Wow. So yeah they've got their dimmer packs on the walls. That's still a long time to leave the electric on for though. That's it yeah. Guys have just been pressing buttons and something's going on downstairs. Nothing's happening though. That's old school. It's like inlay marble and stuff. It's pretty cool. There's basically, I think it's not a projector. Is it here or downstairs? That's the box office There's a projector there. When I saw that I thought it was upstairs. Wow look at this. There we go. Oh wow. The lifts are powered but they won't open the door. When you press it it goes beep beep beep and it shows up the number. The lift doesn't work. That's crazy man look at this. And it's hollow though isn't it? Yeah there's no bulb in there. Yeah this is you know this is like 1940s westrex. It's a very old westrex audio sound system. Wow. If they changed the bulb there would be a bulb in there to a laser light source going from there to the sound head. So that's the sound head. They changed it, modernized it and then stopped using it. Oh yeah it's the old bar. Oh it's stinking warm in here. Oh it's stinky man. It's a stinky one. No I think it's just the lock isn't it? So I have to crawl through this horrible It's good for a scent. It's a complete maze but you can see it's all rotten and moldy in here. Gotta be careful with the lights because Oh wow look at that man. This two-tier library with an upstairs balcony was once filled with rare books. The college also had a collection of artworks and artifacts that had been donated over the years. These were sold off in the 2013 financial crisis. With books still lying in the shelves, study areas left gathering dust, stained glass window at the far end and the beautiful sea view from the windows. This is a true gem and a real pleasure to see. Bloody hell. Guys check out all these books. Guys this is crazy. All these books have just been left behind. The history of the 20th century. Guys these would have been the books for the college. It's all sorts of different books, all different information. It's all about psychology, women's studies. Wow look at the stained glass window. The British journal of psychology 1982, 81, 80, 79. Wow they're still all in order. 62, 70s. Year book of science and the future. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Book of the year 1981, 1976. You see it? Oh yeah. I feel like I need to talk really quietly because I'm in a library. Even the carpet is in mint condition. It's crazy. Wow. That's where I put my mixture for shows and whatnot. Even hard drives in these things. It must be for some like a hard disk recorder. Yeah. There's actual hard drives and motion picture solutions. Look studio canal. That's actually a movie for a digital cinema system. Yeah look studio canal. It's a digital hard drive for movies. Adverts. PD week 20 ads. PD week 19 ads. Adverts. So this is when they would have they would have had a cinema in here at some point. Got an old planer. Yeah. Radio device. But what is it actually for? In tech. USB. Receive. ETC USB serial number. And a little antenna. What for though? There's all the boxes. Oh there's stuff in there's stuff in them. Yeah some sort of uh mini disc player. Mini disc player and an EQ. An EQ. Nobody uses mini discs anymore. Theater sound system. Here DMX color changes. So what you do is you um you've got a controller and it will it'll pull colors in front. So it'll have gels. Gels in here. And it'll change the color. Can you see that? Is that roller? Oh yeah. I'm not sure. Yeah I think I think they've pulled it off and screwed it. But basically it'll have different colors that will roll in front. Sort of roll back roll forward. So let's see if we've got one that's actually got the colors in it. No none of them have. Would they be like. That's sort of yellow in there. Would they have like would they be like small squares of different colored plastic? Well like these are going to be rolls. Oh right okay. Rolls that have to roll from that side to this side. I can't see where the inputs and the outputs for this are. Look you can actually open them. Let's open it up and have a look. Hey. Oh yeah. Like a normal gel paper that would. You'd cut that. Cut that and put it into those. Oh right. And then you put those into the um. You put those into the lights. Oh cool. So those types of lights which you know is par cans over there. If you uh. We'll have a look at one now. I'll show you where it goes. So if you have a look at um. So this is an old strand of tartar. If you grab one of those um gel squares. That's it. That's the one. Yeah and slides in here. And they're all fairly standard size right. Move that little thing back out of the way. And then go in. Slide it in. Wow yeah. Locks it. And then you've got the color. Blue light yeah. You want yeah. Now some of some of these are just uh dumb lights. And some might be intelligent. So you can actually control them. But you know those. Those uh changes there. They're intelligent. So you'd have to electronically tell them the speed to move the. The gel in front. And the gel might have something on it. Like a pattern or. Wow. So you've got lights. All old school old tech. But still people you do use them. They're still in use. Even to this day. But they're very inefficient and very hot. Which is you know. You get 800 watt bulbs in these. 800 or 1000 watt bulbs. So you imagine like. 25 bulbs out there. Oh. With 1000 watts of light.
