Wang Zhaojun was one of ancient Chinese four beauties.
She lived in Han Dynasty, the Emperor Yuan's time, in official historical documents.
Her story was really simple. Wang Zhaojun was born in a normal family.
In 38 BC, she came into the inner court as imperial maid.
According to the legend and folklore, the Emperor Yuan of Han had too many imperial women
and imperial maids, so it's impossible to see them one by one.
The Emperor Yuan required the court artist to draw pictures for those women,
and he could choose women easily. Because most of those women wanted to accompany the Emperor,
they bribed the court artist, so the court artist could draw them prettier.
Zhaojun was an honest person and didn't bribe the court artist.
So the court artist intentionally hid her beauty in the picture,
which made Zhaojun lost the chance to meet the Emperor.
In 33 BC, Hu Hanxie Chanyu visited Han and asked the Emperor to marry him a Han Chinese girl.
The Emperor Yuan arranged Zhaojun to be married with him.
In the folklore, before leaving Han, Zhaojun should personally say goodbye to the Emperor.
This was the first time that the Emperor Yuan saw Zhaojun and was shocked by her immediately.
Unfortunately, the Emperor Yuan already arranged a political marriage, so he had to let her go.
Later, the Emperor Yuan found the court artist who drew pictures for Zhaojun and killed him.
Zhaojun gave birth to one son for Hu Hanxie Chanyu.
In 31 BC, Hu Hanxie Chanyu passed away.
Zhaojun sent messages back to Han government and expressed that she wanted to be back to Han,
but was refused by the Emperor Cheng of Han.
So Zhaojun had to remarry with her husband's son.
Zhaojun and her new husband had two girls.
In 15 BC, Zhaojun passed away and was buried in local.
In 265, Western Jin was founded.
The Emperor posthumously promoted Sima Zhao as the Emperor to apply the naming taboo of the state.
Wang Zhaojun's name was changed to Wang Mingjun.
So Zhaojun also called Mingfei.
Zhaojun's tomb was called Qingzong.
If you have chance to enjoy some ancient Chinese poetry, Qingzong means Zhaojun's tomb,
which shouldn't be translated into green tomb.
At last, I want to share an ancient Chinese poetry with you.
This poetry was created by Du Fu, who was a famous Tang Dynasty poet.
Thank you for watching this video. See you later.
