Bocas Del Toro, Panama is an archipelago in northeastern Panama consisting of 9 main islands and 100s of smaller islets and cayes. The main town, Bocas Del Toro, or Bocas Town is located on Isla Colón and is where we stayed for the first part of our trip. Bocas town is where you will find many tour operators that can take you on activities around the archipelago as well as all your basic necessities. This is also where you can catch a boat taxi to all of the other islands in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. In this video we show you things to do in Bocas Del Toro around Bocas Town, Isla Caranero and Isla Bastimentos as well as take a day trip to Cayo Zapatilla! Bocas Del Toro is a true paradise in Panama and is a destination you do not want to miss! We hope this Panama Travel Guide helps you while you are planning your travels to Panama! #bocasdeltoro#panama

Hola! Bienvenidos! Welcome to beautiful Bocas Del Toro!
Buenos dias! Good morning Country Collectors and welcome to Panama!
That's right we have crossed over from Costa Rica to Panama and we're going to be exploring a bit
of it with you, starting here in the beautiful Bocas del Toro Archipelago. We can't wait to
show you around before we do make sure to hit that subscribe button and ring the bell so you
don't miss out on any of our future adventures! First things first how do we get here? In Puerto
Viejo, Costa Rica we booked a shuttle for $25 USD that drove us to the Sixaola border crossing. Where we
paid the Eight dollar departure tax before getting stamped out. From there we cross the river on the
Sixaola-Guabito International Bridge which landed us in Panama where we got stamped in by immigration
and hop back in the shuttle in route for Almirante. Once in Almirante we grabbed our bags and were
led to a boat that would take us over to Boca's Town on Isla Colón. The beautiful ride took about
30 minutes and was included in our transport. Welcome to Boca Del Toro, AKA Bocas Town. It is
the capital of the province here and is located on the southern tip of Isla Colón. Here on the
archipelago there are nine main islands as well as hundreds of islets and keys and we're going to
all of them! No we're not! Okay we're not gonna go to all of them but we do hope to show you a lot.
And as you can imagine there are a lot of places to stay but we chose to stay here in Bocas town
as it's our first time and it seems like this is where a lot of the action is centered around but
later in this video we are going to head over to Isla Bastimentos which is the largest island. So
stay tuned for that. Here on Isla Colón we are staying at Aqua Point condos and we are loving it!
The apartment has a queen-size bed, bunk beds, air conditioning, TV, full kitchen and a full
bath with hot water. I'll be honest there's some barking chickens, I mean barking dogs. There's some
barking dogs and crowing chickens but...like that right there, but that's Island living for you.
All right why don't we head out now and explore a bit of the town together. Come along. And I'm
just grinning from ear to ear because we have blue skies today. Since we've been here, which has been
like four days, we've been pushing off making this video because we wanted to show you it with, you
know, in all its Glory here and we finally got this one we had a little the other day when we went on
a boat trip we're gonna show you that in a little bit but as you know this area it does have that
tropical climate so it does rain a lot even in the dry season. So you're gonna want to pack a raincoat
whenever you come. And while you're walking around here something you're going to notice is that the
tourism is secondary to the people living their lives here. A lot of places we went in Costa Rica
it seems like it was built up for tourism and the locals kind of got pushed out. Here it's locals and
then there's like a little bit of tourism here, a little bit of tourism there. On the main street
you're going to see a few more of those, like fancier cafes and hotels but take a few steps
away and you are in the real part of the country. Here you are feeling the culture. The people are
just living and I love it. And I think that this is so interesting here I came down here on Sunday and
they were actually setting up for a baseball game. Check it out this is the baseball field and that
is the International Airport. There's no barrier. This is like the extra runway if the plane comes
down it needs more it comes on to the baseball field. I've never seen something like that but
it was very cool everyone was really excited. All these stands were filled with people just having
a good time. It's definitely worth checking out. And one of the characteristics and one of the things I love most
about this town. Are these beautiful, colorful, Caribbean style Clappered houses. I learned that they were built
by the United Fruit Company in the late 19th, early 20th centuries when they established here.
And some of them have been turned into businesses and accommodations like on the main road and a
lot of the other ones, they're still occupied by, you know, by tenants here. And I just think they have
such beautiful character. And right in town here is the central park. It's a great place to come
down watch the world go by. Sit on the colorful painted benches. They have little vendors set
up where you can buy some things. And just on the end is a little fruit market. Like Heidi mentioned
Bocus Town is like the hub of the region. It's where you will find a lot of restaurants, cafes,
shops, ATMs, tour operators, clubs and supermarkets. I swear there's a supermarket on every block, so
you have your options. And you'll be happy to know that peanut butter is $4 USD here,
unlike Costa Rica, where it was at ten dollars. So you know we've been at JIFF-ING all week. And
if you didn't know Panama actually uses the US dollar as their currency but they also have a
national currency known as the... this is not it. So show us what it is. This is their national currency
known as the Balboa. It might look similar to your money from home right here, if you're from the US.
The quarter and it's worth the same amount as well. Look at that. Exact same size too. They only
use their own coins here but they are one-to-one with our money back home. Yeah so bring... Definitely
bring your money when you come down here because they charge a hefty fee at the ATM. It seemed like
wherever we went it was $6.50 USD and they only let you take out $250 USD at a time. So when you're doing tours
or paying for your accommodations that can add up pretty quick. And speaking of restaurants
there are so many great ones right in town and especially on the water here. We've definitely
done our fair share of peaking inside and going in and checking them out. They look really sweet
and the views are just perfection. Yeah! And last night we actually ate at CoCo Fastronomy. Not
this one here but they have another location just down the road. I believe it's called La Pescaderia .
They specialize in fish and seafood. Yeah and what did you get? I got a Bapé. They actually created
their own type of bread. They cut it open and stuffed it with fish that was cooked in coconut
milk. It was delicious. Yeah and I stuck with the kind of coconut theme and I went with Ceviche. It
was a fish Ceviche in that coconut milk. It was yeah, simply remarkable. And it had a really cool
atmosphere there like, there was a pool out front and our fresh juices came in these little like Tiki glasses.
Yeah so we definitely recommend that place. And if you take a step inside here you'll feel like
you've been transported back to earlier days. You can see on the walls here they have all these old
vintage photos of what it was like, you know back in those days. So there's a lot of history you
can learn here on these walls. So we definitely recommend coming in. As you know we always love
learning a bit of history because it helps you appreciate where you are. Now let's head out and
explore some more of the town. We actually walked by this space the other day. It's called Tropical
Suites and it seems like a great place to spend some time. They have a little list out front that
has every day of the week and the specials that they run. On Mondays they have free pool access
and happy hour all day. So it's definitely a place you might want to come down, sit in the pool, look
out at the water, watch the boats go by and enjoy this beautiful weather. When are you taking me here?
Let's come later after we're done filming. Oh look at this. Check out the bar right there. And you can
just go for dinner if you'd like. I know this is really nice. And maybe by now you're wondering,
Heidi where are the beaches? There aren't any beaches here in town itself but if you travel
northwest or northeast you can find them. I heard the most popular beaches on Isla Colón are Playa
Bluff and Playa Estrella. And if you're actually looking to go to Playa Estrella we just found the
bus here. It's located on the north side of the central park. Not sure what times it goes but I
do know that it costs $2.50 USD. Just hop on. I think it takes about 50 minutes to
get to Drago and then from there you'll walk 20 minutes to that beach. And if you didn't arrive by
plane into Bocas then odds are you came by water and came into one of these docks here just like
we did. They actually offer water taxis that will take you out to all these surrounding Islands here
to experience the beaches and a good time. They also do some tours like we did the other day for
tour number two. Where we went out and saw some incredible nature. We'll see you there.
Good morning! As you can see we have some blue skies. We woke up this morning and we were like what is that?
DE LIGHT! DE LIGHT!
It's the first time we've seen the sun since we've been here. So we hopped out of bed and we're
like, we are doing that day trip today. We're gonna make the best of this! Yeah so we're just waiting
for our tour guide to show up. It cost $30 USD. He said we were going to Cayo Zapotilla,
Starfish Beach and we're gonna look for some... Dolphins baby! It would Dolphin-atly be cool if
we could see at least one, but I'm hoping for more! It Dolphin-atley would. So we're just waiting
a bit and then we're gonna head off so come with us. Toto! We're not in Kansas anymore! You are
right we're in Panama baby! We also stopped at the supermarket around the corner and picked
up some snacks and water they have a cooler on the boat so you can bring stuff with you
for snacks and drinks. Let's go! As you can see we have made it down here to the dock. We're
just waiting for everybody to arrive. I believe this is our boat right here. I love the name of
the motor it's Bob. And that reminds me of one of my favorite jokes what do you call a person
with no arms no legs floating in the ocean? I don't know. Bob! Because he's just bobbing around!
We have just made it to our first stop but
let me tell you the ride out here was like a wave of climates! Oh it sure was. As soon as we got in
the boat and pulled away it just started pouring rain and this like mist wrapped around the entire
area. It was absolutely freezing too. But then a couple minutes later we got the blue skies again
and it's absolutely gorgeous and we got to see a couple dolphins. We did it was really cool it
was a mama and her baby and they were doing that little dolphin stroke through the water. But now
we are here and our captain he said this is where you can order some food. We packed our own lunch
so we're not gonna do that. You can get some drinks some food stock up because after here we're gonna
go out to the Zapatilla islands I see them just out here and they look incredible. I know and the water
has gotten so clear and blue since that sun came out. Yay and we're gonna snorkel we brought our snorkel
stuff so make sure you do that too! And all along the way we passed such beautiful Mangrove forests
like you can see right here. This is actually Isla Bastimentos it's the largest island in
Bocas Del Toro here. And we're in the National Park. And we just learned that the Zapatilla Islands were
a part of that National Park too so they you can tell that they definitely take care of this area.
The water is so clean, there's so many beautiful fish. And it looks like Alex our captain is ready
for us to get back on that boat and head out to those islands so let's do that! Welcome to Cayo
Zapatilla 2. There is a numero uno. I think we passed it on the way in here. But this island is
amazing! We just stepped off the boat on the pier and now we gotta go find a spot but first, how was
the snorkeling? Man the water was so nice we didn't see a ton of fish but the coral garden made
up of soft and hard corals was just stunning. Yeah and so our boat captain said we have two
hours here on the island. Over on this side this is where the waves are coming in. It seems to be a bit
more windy. I think if we go over to the other side we'll be guarded a bit more and the water
might be a bit more bright blue. What do you say we do that? I love that idea. As you can see there
are a lot of people here. I think this is one of the most popular day trips. It seemed like when we were
walking around town getting info everyone kept saying you had to come here. But you know what it
doesn't seem overcrowded at all and I think if we keep going there's going to be way less people too.
Okay I was wrong. As I came around the corner of the island there were a ton of people everywhere,
swimming - there's really not even a place to lay on the beach there's so many people. But this
is a decent size island so we found a trail that goes into the center of the island and hopefully
back to the beach. I think it's going to be nice to see a little bit of this pristine nature out
here and maybe find a nice quiet spot that we can share with you. Come along! This is actually
stunning just walking on this trail right here. We're surrounded by this beautiful vegetation. All
these palm trees. Look at they have air plants all over them. It's gorgeous and the water over on this
side is like this milky light blue. And it's a lot more calm too so we recommend heading to the west
side right? West side. And look look it there's a blue morpho butterfly. Oh my goodness these
are my favorite. The blue morpho is one of the most beautiful mariposas in
the entire world in my humble opinion. Yeah but it like goes (wild). It's hard to catch on camera. Even with
those giant blue wings it has. It's kind of cool though when it is not flying it closes them up
and it's completely brown so it blends in with the jungle. Amazing camouflage. Amazing nature. I
feel so fortunate to be here today the sun is out, that rain is gone, the water is blue, the jungle is
green. It seems like everything is the way it should be especially you being here with us!
Oooo. Yeah what do you think? This seems nice. There's a nice little
sandy area. And there isn't a palm tree full of coconuts above us. You always have to look
up to make sure because one of those falls on your head you're dead. And the water over here
looks beautiful. It is coming in a little high so we might have to put our stuff just back further
so it doesn't get wet but I think we found our spot. I like it. Let's enjoy it. And before we jump
in that beautiful blue water we would love to give a shout out to our newest patrons: Tamara, James and
Daniel. Thank you so much for your generous support. It's because of you in part that we are here today
so thank you for that. Yeah and can you believe it like we're in Panama baby! And this is dedicated
to you thank you so so much. And if you would like to become a part of our Patreon community we'll
put the link in the description below. All right let's go jump in this water. Let's do this!
That was great look at our faces we feel so refreshed don't we? Rejuvenated. Rejuvenated
that's it. Well we are now gonna head back to the boat so they don't leave us here which actually
wouldn't be too terrible. You know we could set up a little hut back here just live off coconuts. Why not? Yeah make a little
fire. You got your flint. Of course! Survivor. Yeah and then yeah we'll see you wherever we go next!
We are back at our first stop today and something I just realized earlier they
weren't ordering food for then but for now. So people were putting in their order so when we
came back they their lunch would be ready which makes sense. It does make a lot of sense. Because
earlier I'm like we just started this tour like did people just eat why are we stopping for food.
And we're only here for 10 minutes so what are we gonna eat in those 10 minutes? Yeah so like
I said earlier we brought our own little snack we got some chocolate rice cakes with peanut butter.
You know we got that peanut butter, and banana. Oh man we've actually been snacking on these since
we got here and they are so good. Yeah especially if they're all that rice and beans that we had in
Costa Rica it was just nice kind of to change it up and now that we can afford the peanut butter
we're happy. And here so if you did want to buy lunch here it seems like it's between $15 and $16
per plate. For us we like saving money, we're budget travelers so bringing your own snacks
is what we always do. So you have some options. So we're just gonna eat these and then I think
get in the water. It looks like they got a water slide. They do have a water slide and there are
so many little fish swimming around the dock and some huge needlefish. Yeah do some more snorkeling.
Ahhh as you can see we are on dry land. I know when we left you we were in the water snorkeling. We
sure were and we were having such a good time we neglected to see the time and everyone was
on the boat they're like hello hello it's time to go! So we hopped on quick but when we were in there
there was some beautiful schools of these little tiny fish. We saw crabs, Christmas Tree Worms, there
were Snappers, Sergeant Majors. Heidi spotted this really cool spotted ray. Yeah! The coral was
great. We kind of just swam around under the docks I loved it. Yeah me too. And then there was a slide
as well. Well you saw that you saw us go in. Oh man that slide was quick. The water's like straight up your
nose. So either pinch it and when you hit the water it's pretty shallow so keep your feet up my bum
hit the bottom so. Yeah and as always when you're in the ocean please respect the coral. We saw some
people standing at it which is a big No-No Coral is a living animal. And then after that actually we
thought we were gonna go to Playa Estrella which is on Isla Colon in the Northwest. But we went to
Estrella de Mar which is sea stars. It was like this little island and there was just a bunch
of sea stars surrounding it which was pretty neat. It was pretty neat. It was like a nice slow cruise
everyone got a chance to look it was it was really good. Yeah but we definitely recommend doing this
tour. We went through Coopeguiatour. Yep it's a local Coo-op. So they just kind of filled the boats all the local people get
like their own little option and everyone makes the same amount which is really nice. We did the
tour number two so you can do that when you come here. There's a really loud truck coming this way
so we gotta wrap this up right now. So why don't we, we'll see you back in town. Thanks for coming along!
Welcome back we hope you had an amazing time I know we sure did. It was such a great day we
got so lucky with that weather. But right now we are actually at the point where the boats are
taking over to Isla Caranero. I think it's just a couple bucks to go over there just takes a couple
of minutes and as we haven't had the chance to explore it and the sun is staying out for us today
which is exciting. I hope it stays I hope it stays! Why don't we head over there. Let's do it. Come along. And that was
easy. Yeah we just walked down they got us a boat here. He said it's two dollars each. He said where
do you want to go? I said I don't know. And he said how about the Playa? So I was like all right we'll
go to the little beach over here. He actually said yeah playaita so we're going to a small beach which is great!
Woo this Breeze feels so good. I know refreshing! We made it. Wow, first Impressions... this place looks sweet!
Boom! Walking the plank. That's right! Welcome To Paradise! I was just checking out the map here because I wanted to see
where we were. You can see that little blue dot there on the eastern side. And you might notice
this island has no roads. The only Island here in the archipelago that has roads is Isla Colon.
There is a green little pathway all the way around the island here. It takes about one hour to hike. I
don't think we're gonna do that I think we're just gonna chill out here on the beach and then maybe
head back down towards the southern side. On the boat when we were coming here we saw that it had
clubs and all these really neat accommodations that were over the water that could be a good
choice for you when you visit. So yeah let's just hang out here and check it out together. It
really is so beautiful back here. Oh my gosh in a coconut literally just almost fell on Adam's head!
Oh! I just heard this huge thud! So there are palm trees. They have coconuts on them so you need to
be very careful with where you're gonna you know choose to sit like we said when we were
over on Zapatilla. That was so scary. Well this video could have totally went a different way.
This coconut almost just took my life right here. Oh shoot. It looks really big and
heavy. It does. They're delicious but they're dangerous too people. Yeah so you gotta look
up like I said. See all right there. Let's get out of here. Let's get out of here I'm done!
But I was gonna point out over here it's like a little swamp area. So the trees are like these
craggy trees it kind of feels like if you were dropped off on a deserted island. It's got a really
unique feel. We walked down just a few minutes and that beautiful white sand beach has sort of turned
into more of a coconut graveyard behind us here. Oh yeah look. There's a huge pile of them. That's why that one came after me.
He came after me as retaliation. I've had my fair share of coconuts in my day. Yeah there you go he's
like not me sir! So we're actually just gonna head back down and go back towards the south
side of the island maybe get some food and just see what we find. Maybe a drink? Yeah sounds good.
And I can definitely see the draw of staying here you know away from the liveliness away from the
town. It's a lot more tranquil and relaxed. But what's nice is you can have the best of both worlds you
know. Where we are everything is around us all the supermarket so it's easy and restaurants
to eat but then just a couple minute boat ride you can come here and be surrounded by... These cutie
doggies! Hi!
He's like I don't want anything to do with you sister. They got places to go. Yeah well let's go with them I want
to go to those places! And I love that as we're walking along you're just kind of going through
people's yards on the water. Ocean on one side. On the other side people just living their lives.
This lady's back here burning some coconut husks and cooking up bread with it. And you'll see that
there's about 200 pairs of underwear hanging up between the trees here. I'm guessing it's been
raining for three or four days so you got to take the opportunity to clean when you can! Yeah sun's
out it's laundry day. That's right sun's out guns out and hang your underwear. This looks a little
interesting I think my gymnastics background will come in handy here. Walk the plank there me Hearties!
Don't get too sassy! And we were walking past this property here and we just saw like movement going
like this and there's hundreds of those little crabs here. I think there's security for this
place. Like don't come too close! And as you're walking down the beach you are gonna pass some
restaurants. This is the first one we've seen it's BiBi's at the Beach. On the beach. It's Bibi's
on the Beach. I also can't read that's how hungry I'm getting. We were actually recommended
a different restaurant though so we're gonna keep walking down but this one looks pretty good too!
And if you're a surfer or you're looking to learn how to surf Bocas is the place to come.
As you can see there are a lot of schools all over. And we've heard that you just can just hop
on a boat, tell them where you want to go and they'll take you out there and you can catch
some waves. So it could be a good time! I love it. It is getting warm out here and you know what
we're walking by they're actually cutting the Coconuts out of the trees probably for safety
and to make a little money. And he's like I can chop one up for you for one dollar. And that's what
he's doing right here! Gracias! Okay. Oh yeah oh that's a good one. Uno mas. Yeah we're gonna do two. He wants his own.
Woah! Nice coconuts babe. Adam! Gracias! Here they are so good. They look so heavy! They're really heavy.
There's tons of water in here. Let's do this!
Exactly what I needed. And just a couple steps away we have found ourselves here at Receta
Michila I think that's the name. A lady in town at one of the shops, I asked her what
her favorite restaurants was - which is a great way to figure out kind of the local scene, and
she recommended this spot so let's head on in. What a meal! We were just talking and we said
that was probably the best food we've had since Mexico. In months! My mouth is like
still just feeling all those little flavors in it. I'm so excited! So we ended up getting the beet
salad and it was topped with smoked cheese and tossed in a passion fruit dressing with
lime. And then we also got the vegetable curry that was served with coconut rice. And
in a coconut in case there wasn't enough coconut already. And we ended up talking
to the chef Joseph
for a while. And we learned about his story. So I guess 30 years ago the restaurant actually used
to be his mother's and now he owns it. And he said that his actual, like his driving force is looking
for beauty in life as well as food. So he spent the last 20 or 30 years traveling around the
world getting new techniques from Paris going to Italy getting all these things so we could
bring him back and take the Panamanian food and then just elevate it a little bit. And he did that!
It was more than just a little bit he really elevated it. And what else we learned that was
really neat. That lady Adam showed you who was baking the bread, he uses the bread! So he works
with all of the farmers around here you know it's a Farm to Table Restaurant. He wants... Hola!
He wants you to taste the flavors of the islands, of Bocas. And you know that influence is there
you can definitely feel it, taste it. For sure even that cheese that was smoked. They smoke it with
the local coconut husk so you're getting that flavor in everything that you have here. Yeah
as you can tell we are just really excited. I feel like lately we've just been sitting down
and eating food. And eating for the purpose of eating. But this, this made me so happy. Yeah so
thank you so much Joseph. He also has another restaurant called Octo that's in town that we are going to go to tonight. If
it's half as good as that it's gonna be great! It's gonna be Octolicious. All right let's keep going. And
they have some very cool and unique accommodations. There's like four individual ones right here and
then a lighthouse. I just walked down there there's also a bar and restaurant at the end of the pier.
And in between I saw this guy casting his fishing net he gave me a thumbs up. It's really nice here
I'm I'm enjoying the vibe. Yeah me too. We made a little turn off of the Beach Road and now we're
walking down into the center of the island here. It's like a nice little community. All these houses
the colors the laundry hanging outside. I like it. Oh and the chickens don't forget about them!
Oh he ate a crab!
Look! He just ate one of those fiddler crabs and left a little
fiddle hook there. He needs that! That's the best part. Oh here you go buddy!
Oh he ate it!
Now that our tummies are full and we've done a bit more exploring I think it's time for
another stop. Oh yeah we got one left in us today. And I'm quite thirsty aren't you? Me too!
And I know just the spot so come with us. Welcome to the Floating Bar! Yes you heard that right we
are on a floating bar! I mean it's just kind of surrounded by mangroves. It's two stories
and so relaxing. And you know we got some drinks. I went with the margarita. And I got the classic rum
punch. And we both already tried them they are so good! We did they are delicious. Mine's very coconut forward
as it should be. And I feel like that's just so appropriate for where we are. Oh absolutely. And
I like they didn't put the Grenadine in it to make it that red color because it's just not too sweet
nice and rummy. But look behind us here they got the two stories and some platforms out here. They
said it's open from 12 until 5 except for Monday's they have live music so it's opened a bit later. Yeah
until the party stops. Yeah woo hoo! Well we heard that there was some good snorkeling around here so we
are going to do that after we're done with our drinks. Head back have some dinner at Octo. And
then tomorrow you know where we're going? We are going to... Do you know? I think it's Isla Bastimentos.
Bastimentos! Yes! He listens! He listens! I did it happens once in a while it just kind of like wiggles its way
in. I'm in shock. But yes we're just gonna enjoy this thank you so much for joining us today. It
was so much fun and I'm so glad that the weather turned up. Yes me too, it's incredible. But yeah we will see you
tomorrow morning over on the other island.
Hey hey! And welcome to Isla Bastimentos!
This morning we came over on a boat and it was... I don't know quite interesting
I'd say. Yeah let's just call it an interesting experience. Instead of taking one of like the
bigger boats we actually got on a smaller one and there were big waves so we were like doing
this the whole time. He's like wait wait stop the boat we need to reorganize all the luggage in
the front of the boat. And we're going like two miles per hour so it took quite a while to get
here. But we made it, took a walk around and it's really cool. It's a lot different than Bocas town
and yeah we're enjoying it. It is so colorful and quiet here like all the houses have those pastel
colors. You know people are just strolling around. There's no cars here so it's just like one
sidewalk that kind of cruises around through the main town which is not very big. I think you could
walk it maybe in 10 minutes. So why don't we go check it out with you guys. Let's do it!
And here on the island Old Bank is the only settlement. Here we're staying at Bastimentos Hill. There are a few other places
to stay, accommodations that we have seen along the way. This place is really nice. It's like a
labyrinth actually. It's quite big and it's bright yellow made of wood and it has such a
great view of the water and the surrounding town. So we definitely recommend it. And while you're
walking around here you're gonna notice that it kind of looks similar to a Puerto Viejo in Costa
Rica. You know a lot of the population here are descendants of Jamaicans that came to work on
the banana plantations here. So it's definitely got that Afro-Caribbean feel especially you know
in the food and just the way of life. It's just a really interesting and neat place to be and
we're just soaking it all up. And on the island you're going to notice a ton of really beautiful
colorful flowers as well as these fruit bearing trees. Right here is some breadfruit how cool is
that! And definitely pick up some provisions before you come over from Bocas town because there is
only a very small supermarket here as well as some places like this that sell fruit. This is the fruit
lady you go knock on the door she lets you in and you pick up some fruit. Yeah I wouldn't call that
other one a supermarket just a little store. It's more like a mini market how about that. Yeah. As
you're walking through town you will come to the Central Park. It's a colorful place to sit and just
kind of watch the locals living their lives. Here is a basketball court/soccer field where
we've seen some kids having a great time. This is also the main dock in town so most of the boats
are coming and going from here. And right next to the park is a restaurant Lysset that we heard
was supposed to be delicious so if you're feeling a little peckish this could be the place for you!
And we just met this local his name was Stefan I asked him what language they speak here because
we've been hearing it around but we can't like put our finger on it and he said it's Guari-Guari.
It's a mix of Spanish, French and English. That's very interesting. I feel like normal Patois which
is what they speak in Jamaica is just like a French and English kind of slang mix so they
throw the Spanish in here to give it a little extra spice. Yeah he said in school they have
to learn Spanish so I think that's how it got you like introduced into it which yeah it's just it's
beautiful to hear. But it's kind of confusing because you know over in Bocas Town you're
saying hola and speaking Spanish to everyone and then here you know they're like hello and then
sometimes throw on the Hola. Or whatever you know. Or a wagwan. It's really cool and just yeah just a different
feeling you know. And that culture and that local experience. We're really loving it. So as you
can see the island is really laid back and quiet. I will say except for the roosters. You're gonna want
to go to bed early because you will be woken up at four or five a.m. They're relentless early in
the morning. I'm like all right we see you we hear you! In addition to all the roosters there's also
a lot of dogs just kind of hanging out, laying in the road playing with kids. They're quite cute.
And something that is pretty unique there are parrots sitting on people's window sills, or on their front
steps. I guess that they're pets. Yeah I think so. And if you're looking to do more than just sort
of hang out and lay in a hammock which is okay there's also a couple of other beaches on the
island. There's wizard Beach and Red Frog Beach which has a nice resort on it so if that's what
you're looking for that might be a good option. And from here you can walk there but since it's been raining we heard that
the trail is quite muddy. And we actually saw people come back yesterday filthy. Multiple people
like covered in mud. So we're gonna avoid walking to Wizard Beach but yeah you can
also take a boat like Adam mentioned to Red Frog which is supposed to be one of the most
beautiful beaches you know in the archipelago here. So definitely check it out! Yeah but I guess this
ends our trip here. It's kind of sad because it's been so much fun taking you around this whole
area, exploring the islands, just enjoying that nice Caribbean Vibe! Yeah being here in Panama!
Definitely enjoying it and it's just our first step. I know I'm so excited to see more. Yeah so
