(Ligue 1 2024/2025): Highlights Brest - Rennes

Inform Brest welcomed Rennes in the first Brittany derby of the Ligue 1 season. The hosts have won four of their last five games in all competitions. And the last time these two sides met back in April, Eric Ruas-Brest won a 5-4 gorilla. And it was Ruas' side who had the better of the first half. Roman del Castillo's cross was just headed wide by Pereira Laje. The ball just too far for Ludovic Ajorque to get a touch at the far post. Brest's best chance of the first half fell to Maddy Camara, but he could only rattle the woodwork. A great opportunity for the 26-year-old, but he was unable to add to his two league goals this season. Marco Bizot had very little to do in the first half in the Brest goal, but he was alert when called upon. Amine Gouiri's shot brilliantly saved by Bizot. Gouiri had gone six games without a goal involvement before this match. Seven minutes into the second half and Brest were awarded a penalty. Lise Melou's shot ricocheting onto the arm of Matusiwa and a spot kick was given. Roman del Castillo took it and he thumped in his third goal of the season. All three of them have been penalties. Brest's season getting better and better. A brilliant spot kick crashing in off the bottom of the bar. Rennes' chances were few and far between. Arnaud Kalimawendo did well to get a shot away, but it was matched by Bizot. Kalimawendo just on side, but good goalkeeping in the end. And it looked like Brest were on their way to all three points, but with four minutes to go Kalimawendo's cross was met by Jota. A fabulous way for the Portuguese substitute to get his first Rennes goal. Gronbeck did brilliantly in the build up. Improvisation from Jota, but it worked wonders for the visitors. So a disappointing draw for Brest who will now face German champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. Brest one, Rennes one.
