Southeast Asia's first high-speed rail, but welcome to the brand new Kalim station. It
looks more like an airport. It really does, it's so cool. Hello, do we just scan? Yes,
they're going to roll. Second floor. Ah, look at it. To experience the whoosh. The whoosh.
I love the name of it. Right, this is us.
Did you hear that? Was that whoosh? Did you know that Jakarta, Indonesia has a bullet train?
Southeast Asia's first high-speed rail, the whoosh. And today we will finally be setting
sail after spending a couple of weeks in the capital. We are going to be heading east
and further east and further east on the island of Java over the next few weeks, taking various
train options. And some of the options are the best in the world. It is currently
8.19 in the morning. Molly is trying to secure us a Go-Jek because we have got to get to the
other side of Jakarta in just over an hour. Wish us luck. And I am really going to miss
my balcony and this apartment. £19 a night. Jakarta, we will see you soon.
Thank you. So today we are going to be heading from Jakarta to the fourth most populous city
of Bandung. I believe I am saying that right. And we're actually going from the Halim
high-speed railway station, which I believe was made just for the whoosh train. My Go-Jek
is four minutes away. I've been trying to get this Go-Jek for half an hour. This was not the
best idea to decide to book the train at 8.30 during rush hour on a Monday in Jakarta. Fingers
crossed. Fingers crossed we will make it. But we have got trains all across the world from third
class Indian trains to bullet trains in Poland. So this should be a new, exciting,
whooshing experience. Hello. Rush, rush, rush, rush, rush. How do I? How do we open the boot?
The boot is closed. Oh, this is so cool. Thank you. Thank you very much. Is there space?
That's it. Perfect. Makassi, thank you.
One hour till the train leaves. Makassi, I like your car. It's very cool. It's very good. So many
lights, speakers. Makassi, thank you very much, my friend. Very fast. The fastest driver in Jakarta.
Thank you so much, my friend. Makassi, oh, thank you.
Welcome to Halim station. We add on? Makassi. Oh, it is 9.29 in the morning. The train leaves
in 15 minutes. But welcome to the brand new Halim station. It looks more like an airport.
It really does. It's so cool. So we've got supermarkets, coffee shops. It's so annoying
because we left an hour and like 20 minutes in advance. I was hoping to come and have a coffee,
but I need to work out if we need to do checking. I believe it closes just before the train goes
and then work out what I need to do with our tickets.
So I think this station was actually built specifically for the whoosh and the high
speed rail. I've got everything here. There's a subway, a beard, PAPIS. I don't know where.
Maybe customer service. Actually, there's security. Oh, let's just go through. You
actually get your ticket as a QR code, which is so cool. It's literally whoosh, you're through.
Hopefully, anyway. Hello, can we just scan? Yes, second floor. Makassi, just scan? Ah,
perfect. Makassi. I like that. I like that a lot. So we actually got our tickets online and we were
given a barcode, but I thought we'd have to turn up at the, I was going to say airport,
at the train station. It really does. I thought we'd have to turn up and then they'd give us a
different ticket, but it seems very efficient that we've been given a barcode. And you know
what I love? This is very Asian, but the train is called whoosh because it's a bullet train.
So it's sort of like whoosh, you're super fast. I think we have to go through security anyway.
And then, yeah, this is it. We just got to wait for the train. I really didn't think we were
going to make it. So I can't believe we're actually here. And this is the waiting room
for the whoosh. You can even come and do some shopping at our favourite shop, Polo. Oh,
security. I probably should stop filming, but here we go.
You've got no guns or alcohol in there, have you? Not today. Left them both at home.
Thank you. Everything is going everywhere. I love that. This is like the only country
where at security, they're nice and they let you film. Normally it'd be like no cameras,
put your camera away. But here you can do what you want when you get in the whoosh.
And I think we now just have to wait because we've got like 10 minutes. This is so crazy.
We thought we were going to be extremely rushed, but now we have time to get a Cinnabon
or a coffee from this place. Cinnabon coffee or an Auntie Anne's. It smells very good.
You want a regular or a large? Regular. Can we have one regular hot cappuccino, please? Two.
Two? I don't want a whole one. I just want a couple of sips. Large then, please. A large
then, please. Sorry. Yes, please. Who shares a coffee? Are you okay? That's it. Thank you.
No, thank you. While we wait for our coffee, this is really cool. So this
is what we're going to be getting. The whoosh. The bullet train. I've never seen anything like
this before. They're very proud of their whoosh. So you can come and I think...
Sorry, mate. You're in my seat. Very snazzy. Look. The whoosh. I don't actually think that's
the actual size of the train. Well, I hope not. 9.35. We have 12 minutes. We're good.
We're relaxing. We're enjoying it. Once I have my Cinnabon.
Thank you. Are we boarding? I think so. I think we can wait a bit. Yes, of course.
I think we have our own boarding area as we did actually book
first class. We'll explain on the train how we booked it and how much it cost. This really does
feel like an airport, right? This is a different gate to everyone else. Check this out. Hello.
Good morning. Okay. Look at that. Oh, you have my one as well. You go through. I'll pass you the
coffee. Here, I'll scan it for you. There you go. Oh, sorry. Oh, look at that. Thank you so much.
Oh my God. I can't believe how quick and seamless that is. You know, sometimes when you get your
boarding pass at an airport and the QR code never works, this just works instantly and
we were through in seconds. So after all that rushing, we've got reading B2.
You know, when something smells new, this smells new. I think it officially opened
about a year ago. So we are one of the first to, ah, look at it, to experience
the whoosh. The whoosh. I love the name of it. Right. This is us. Hello. Hello. Oh, right at the
front. Thank you so much. Oh, snazzy. Are we going to be at the front or the back? I don't know where
we're going. Um, but we are, look at this. You've got like, it looks like Apple. Stop, it's too
fancy. I was waiting to greet you to get on. It's making me feel a bit awkward. I feel a little bit
nervous. This is a, as fancy as I've ever got on a train, but there is the whoosh. Good morning.
Hello. Yes. Same. Same. Okay. We have storage. Oh, that's so good. Okay. I'll just leave it
under last. The last one. Yeah. Check this out. I thought it was going to be empty,
but there's actually a few people in it. We have a whole two seat booth to ourselves.
I will show you round properly inside in a moment, but there it is. I was not lying when I said
Indonesia has a blooming bullet train. I think we leave in seven minutes. So I should really get
back on. Look at it. So shiny. So fancy. We need some of these in the UK. And here is that legroom.
Our little booth. Do you know what? This looks almost like a business class plane, doesn't it?
It feels like it. The seats are super wide, very comfortable. We have our plugs.
You've got the coolest little footrest. Look at this. Yeah, it's huge.
Legroom achieved. There's even a menu so you can order food. You can look at our coffee on here.
Can you believe it? This window, everything about it is just sleek. It's really, you can tell it's
just so new, but it looks absolutely amazing for a train. We have never done business class on a
plane. So this feels very luxurious. I love the outfit. It's like what the air hostesses
wear on the planes. We have five minutes, four minutes to depart. Do you think it will leave on time?
I reckon it will leave maybe early. Here we go. Hold on.
First in Indonesian. Give it a minute.
Thank you.
So I believe that there are three different options that you can book when you book your
ticket on the train. We, of course, booked the first class for the experience and it's 600,000
rupiah per person, which equates to about £30, $35, something like that. So it is expensive.
The other ones are obviously a lot cheaper. However, this is such a unique experience for us
and a very affordable way to do first class trains around the world. They can be super,
super expensive and you can book it online and pay with your credit card, which I did yesterday,
and it was done instantly. So thumbs up for the process. Thumbs up for the train so far.
Talk about the price. This train's only 40 minutes long.
And we are off. And of course, 9.46. We have left one minute early. It's time to say goodbye
to Jakarta and hello to Bandung. It's actually trenasar speed, current speed. Let's see.
31 kilometers an hour. It's a bit slow.
Hello. Oh, yes. Thank you. Makasih. I did not know we got food. Thank you very much. Makasih.
Oh, wow. Thank you.
That is so cool. Makasih. Thank you. Look at this. A care package.
No, I love the fact that it's got whoosh on it. Should we see what's inside?
Oh, my God. Look at this. We have mixed nuts. We have a choco bread roll, I think,
from Tu Le Jour, a little bakery, a beng beng chocolate bar, and a little bottle of water.
Moving faster, living smarter. I love it. Let's try this. Tu Le Jour. We actually go there
in the malls. It's really good. It's like a chocolate roll.
347 kilometers an hour. We are almost at top speed. This is very fancy. It's a very unique
way to travel the island of Java. This actually cost billions of dollars to build and the plans
are to extend it all the way to Surabaya, cutting the travel time from around 10 to 13 hours
down to just three and a half, which shows how quick it is. I've even heard rumors
that they might build a bridge and this might go all the way from Jakarta to Bali.
Everyone, no, I mean everyone from our carriage has got off at Padarareng station. It is currently
10.16. We've only been going for like 25 minutes. This is actually the closest
or the most convenient stop to get off if you're heading to Bandung because they then have a
shuttle that takes you into the city. I was like, why am I going to do that? If I'm getting the
whoosh whoosh, I want to experience it to its fullest. We're actually staying until the last
stop and now we have a private, a private blooming cabin. This is cool. It is cool. I can't
believe that they give you a free shuttle service. I think she said overhead that there was like a
special carriage for the people that are in first class and business class in order to get onto the
shuttle train, which is really cool. I would have liked to have experienced that, but the difference
in getting a taxi from here or if you were to get the shuttle and to get it from the other station
is very similar. So we are getting off at Tegaluwa Samaragon. It is time to check
the toilet. This is not quite third class on an Indian train. This is lovely. It has a little
air freshener, toilet, your sink. It smells incredible in here. I actually think this could
be the best train toilet I have ever used. Now everyone thinks I'm crazy for talking in the
toilet, but this I presume is the business class or the standard class, which again is still
equally. Is this one business? Yes, business class. Ah, but it's still very nice.
The toilet smells so good. Incredible. If you want to have panoramic views and take it all in
your seat, if you have the single ones, rotate 360 degrees. And I think we have arrived at our
final destination. Look at this. So much room for your bags. That was so good. What is the time?
It is 10.34 on the dot. 10.34. Was that when we were meant to arrive? Of course. Hello.
Thank you so much. Makassi. Thank you. Makassi. Thank you so much.
The best. Honestly, the best train experience of my life. 45 minutes and we are in the city of
Bandung. There are actually so many more trains to come across the island of Java.
And I think we have one coming up that will be even better than the whoosh. Honestly,
a fantastic seamless experience and I would highly recommend it. Look at how blimming cool
they look. But now we have to work out how to get a Gojek because we are further along
outside of the city of Bandung. We just need to get a Gojek into the city and check into our hotel.
We're stuck.
Is it on my one?
I thought I'd never leave. I thought the station had me.
Hello. Makassi. Thank you. And we have made it. Hello.
Thank you very much. Makassi. Oh, I can help. Thank you so much. 45 minutes later,
there was a lot of traffic in Bandung, but we have made it to our hotel for the next few days.
The Crown Plaza. Makassi. Thank you. We will message you on WhatsApp. WhatsApp.
Makassi. When I have internet, we will message. Bye. Hello. Makassi. Yeah, that was a long drive.
Very long drive. Almost as long as the train. Thank you so much. This is going to be nice
though. It's a very good location. We were driving through Makassi and we realised that
we are right in the centre, which would be nice. When we go out to explore, we should be able to
just walk. Makassi. Wow. This is posh. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. Hello. Hello. Thank
you so much. You're most welcome. How are you? Thank you for asking. How about you? Good.
Really good. We took the WUSH train. Yeah. Oh, it's taking 45 minutes from China. Yes.
Thank you. Makassi. What is this? Lemonade. Lemonade. Homemade.
Your first time. Yes. Oh, that is good.
So for the Wi-Fi, you can use your last name, Mr. Jody. Yes. Amazing. So tonight we give the
information about our facilities that we have breakfast. Okay. We start breakfast at our
Mosaic Restaurant Lobby from 6 until 10am. Perfect. Thank you. Makassi. Which way is the
lift? This way? Thank you. Makassi. Thank you very much. Everyone is so kind. So, so kind. So
I'm not sure with timings whether the WUSH works out worth it because an hour to the train station
in Jakarta, 45 minutes this way and then 45 minutes on the WUSH. It's pretty similar to just
drive straight to Bandung, but I think for the experience, it was worth it. Makassi.
Where are we? I'm not sure. This way? Makassi. Thank you very much. Oh, it's dark.
It's secret. We should be on the right. Which one? Turn? Yes. Ah, here. Makassi.
Oh, wow. Oh, lovely. Thank you, my friend. Makassi. Talk about the sweetest staff. So this
is the Crown Plaza in Bandung and it's really, really central from the taxi. We can see that
we can walk pretty much everywhere, but welcome to our room. We got a sweet upgrade as well.
This was not the one that we booked. So we have our humongous bed. There's something about hotels
and their pillows. That's good. After being in our little apartment, this is needed. This is so
needed. We got our chair area. We have a view of the city of Bandung. We have our TV, my desk so
I can sit and get some work done, hopefully. Storage, lots of water. Coffee machine. Can I
froth milk with that? That's really cool. And we have our bathroom. Oh, wow. Oh, what a view.
Oh, my God. So this is the view that you get from the bedroom except I can sit in the bath.
Look at this. Sit here and watch Bandung or Bandung can see us in the bath. No,
hopefully I'll just look at them. This is huge. We've also got our walk-in
shower. Honestly, I love that view. I'm going to enjoy Bandung. We've actually got the next
three days in the city to explore. And we've been told that we're only a five minute walk
from the main street where they said we can get street food. And they also said we can go to
clubs. We're a little bit too old for clubbing, but that brings an end to our whoosh experience.
It was worth it. Like I said, the travel in between is a little bit annoying. Get into the
train station either side. But once you are at the station on the train, I would highly,
highly recommend it. Even if you don't get first class, you can get business or you can get
standard for much, much cheaper. And we do have two or three other very exciting trains planned
during our trip on the island of Java. But today, you may have already seen it,
but we are attempting to get tickets for the El Clasico of Indonesia, Persib versus
Persija. So fingers crossed we can get some tickets and we'll see you in the next one from Bandung.
