I just checked into my room in Shanghai. It's called Dayan East Nanjing Road and the Bund.
I'm used to rooms this size because I've been to Japan. So I didn't really expect a room too big.
So I'm quite happy with a room this size. You know, it's nice and cozy. You've got air conditioning,
which works. Nice shower. There's me looking tired. Everything you would expect in the room,
but the bed looks super comfy. Should we check the view outside? Let's have a look outside.
I'm on the fourth floor. Pretty high up, to be honest. Only thing is, there's no...
They've taken the smoke alarm out, but I don't know what's going on there. Maybe the smoke alarm
outside might take off. The bed is super comfy. Super comfy. I'm really happy. You've got some
Coke and three drinks. So I'm quite happy. I'm currently walking down Ningbo Road. It's
the main road here in China. They have loads of designer outlets all around. They've got loads
of coffee places here, which are very nice. People love the coffee everywhere. Oh, here's a
beautiful view of Shanghai's first zoo. Let's go check it out. Let's go check it out and see
what we can find inside the zoo hall. That's quite cool. Yeah, it looks cool. It suits me.
Yeah, it suits you well. I had to come here to buy things to bring to my grandparents.
What kind of things can you get here? Plums, dried plums, some meat. Like local flavour.
This is the actual... So the whole complex is now called Yu Gardens. Okay. But this is the
actual Yu Gardens. It's like this pond, right? Yeah, this is like where they actually live.
Like the dining room, home. These are like the rich guys. These are like residents. Okay. So this is
the residents. This bridge is called Jiuquqiao. Jiuquqiao means like nine-curve, nine-angle.
So you walk... Oh, nine-angle bridge. It's pretty busy, right? It's always like that. Really?
Look at this angle. Wow. I'm now on my way to Yang's Fried Dumplings. I've heard so many good
things about this place on YouTube from previous watches before I came here to Shanghai. And I've
been told when I got here, I asked again, should I be going to Yang's Fried Dumplings? He said sure.
So now we're heading over to Yang's Fried Dumplings. So the thing over here is Google
Maps offsets your location. So it's not completely accurate. So I just kind of have to guess like
where I am in conjunction to everything else. But it's okay. It works. It's just not accurate.
So you have to use a local navigation app, which I will link down below in the description.
And then from there, you can see everything that you can do here in Shanghai and also how to get
around. And I think I need to do another video on that because if you don't download certain apps
here, you can't go anywhere. And I've had that problem when I got to the airport when I first
arrived. I never had any of the apps installed and you can't pay by cash in the taxis. And it was
pretty stuck. So yeah, you really do need to download certain stuff to get around here. But
let me show you. Let me show you where I am today. It looks a bit cloudy. It looks overcast. But I'm
telling you it's hot. It's 33 degrees at the moment. And you see people cover from the sun
because they think that the darker you are, the less attractive you are. So right now I'm sticking
out like a sore thumb. But hey, we're here in China. You know, when in Rome. One more thing
about down here is it's happened five times now. I come up to you and they're like, do you want to
go shopping? Do you want to go shopping? And it's all like the stuff you can get anywhere else. You
know, the fake stuff, a bee bass and the Nikkei, the Nippes and things like that. But you can get
that stuff anywhere. I'm not here to be getting off brand stuff. I want the real stuff. I want
the food. I don't want some random crappy stuff. So we made it outside Yang's Fried Dumplings in
Shanghai. Let's go inside and check it out. One thing I didn't notice about the Shanghai Tower
last night was it's actually curved. It curves inwards. Last night when I was here, you can't
actually see that the tower turns inwards because it's so dark. If you look at it from a certain
angle, it actually looks like it's going to fold over. Strange, but built really well. I'm now on
the Bund Skywalk, which gives amazing views of the Bund by day. It's not the same as it is at night,
but it's different. And I'm heading to Zhujiajiao. I've probably completely botched that name.
It's also known as the Water City. It reminds me from the pictures of Little Venice. But
me, when I travel, I like to see little previews of things without actually looking at the whole
thing because it ruins it for me. You know, the experience. So the best thing is to just go there
and witness it for yourself. I do watch YouTube tutorials every now and then just to see what
the area is like, but I don't like to watch the whole thing. Like I said, I'd rather just see it.
So I have to head to People's Square where I'm going to get the Metro for the first time. Come
with me today while I navigate my way around Shanghai as a mixed race male. So we're just
coming up to this lovely square here. So you have the Lego shop right ahead. You can see it there.
And then on the right side, you have Nike over here, which I went to yesterday. And then on the
left here, we have the Adidas building. So everything here is 10 times bigger than what
it is back home. And this is literally a five minute walk from my hotel. So you can see we have
the Nike over here, Starbucks over there, Lego there. And if you head down to that way, you have
the Bund, which is also where all the big viewpoints are to see the skyscrapers. So we're going to head
now to People's Square. So I need to get line number two. So you can see here, line number two
on the sign there, line number two. Never ridden the Metro here in China before. So to get on the
Metro here, you need to scan the QR code on your phone, which you get on WeChat. And then that will
give you access to the underground system here. But let me try and find line number two. Arrows
pointing up. So at the moment, it's easy to find. So it's saying exit five, which looks to be,
this is exit 19. So at the moment, there's 19 exits. Exit seven, exit six. So I'm assuming exit
five, somewhere in the middle. Going to Circle Fusing, People's Square station, exit five.
Ready to get on the Metro? Okay. So you open up Alipay, get the transport, and then you have your
Metro card here, which you just use to scan. Right in the gate, open. So now you're in China.
Line number two, Circle Fusing. Wow. Walking now down to line two, I think we found
the line. All right, number two. First time navigating the subway system.
So I just got a fresh bag. It's really hard to understand because I was trying to translate it.
I was translating English to Chinese, whereas the words are already in Chinese, so it doesn't make
any sense. So, but anyway, 2.5, that is 27 feet for a dumpling. It's going to be my break here.
It's actually pretty good. So it's got meat inside for 27 feet.
It's really good. Just coming out of the station now. This is the kind of place I'm going to get
lipped up because I've got a tan on my skin, but we'll see. So this is just right outside the
station. As you can see, we're very rural now. We're no longer in Shanghai.
That was the first experience, come out of the station. But the thing is, I don't know if people
trying to be friendly or just want money, but from my traveling experience, I know not to do
anything that people tell you to do. They want you to jump on a bike. You don't jump on a bike
because they're just going to be like, no, you pay, you pay. No, man. But you can see it's really
beautiful. I had to put my shades on because people keep looking at me. And now with my shades
on, they don't know if I'm looking at them. Who's winning now? Last couple of days, I've got so fat.
Everything here is just carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs, carbs. You want rice, noodles,
meat. I don't know how they've got so much like metabolism just to be burning all this stuff.
It's crazy. Very photogenic around here, but I feel awkward being the only black guy around.
Everyone's just staring. So the price of that boat was £23, but it was actually charged per boat.
So the boat fits six people. So if I fit six people, it would have been 20 divided by six.
It would have been really cheap, but because it was only me, I had to pay £23 for the boat trip.
Probably the most expensive thing I've paid for since I've been here.
So now I'm just walking around the water city to basically find out what there is here.
So we've done the boat tour, which is £20. And now we're looking for somewhere to eat,
which I know is going to be pretty cheap, but I don't want to sit down with rice or noodles or
something. I want to try some local street food. So let's have a look and see what I can find.
I've got like signs here from, I'm assuming people that come here just come and sign the name
and then just hang it on the wall or hang it on the ceiling. It's quite cool. You can sign the
pen there, get one, put it on the wall with some string. It'll be here. It's like those
love locks that you see in Paris. Quite cool. 33 degrees.
The rain started to fall down. So I'm now on my way back to Shanghai after visiting
Yang's dumplings again. This time I had the rice noodles with the beef, which was actually
really nice. But now, as you can see, it's raining. Oh, someone's behind me a second.
It's now raining. The weather changes really fast here in China. So one second, it'd be really
bright and sunny. And the next second, the heavens open and the rain is falling down.
But you probably can't see, but I can feel it. The temperature is now 31 degrees.
But look at the view. I'm not complaining. I'm not complaining. So we're now on our way back to
the station. It's about a 20 minute walk to the station and then about an hour and a half back
to the city centre. I'm going to get a little bit more souvenirs and then we're going to call it a
day, do my laundry, start packing. I think I'm just going to relax this evening because I've
got a long day tomorrow. I'm going to a Korean baseball game. Yeah, and I can't wait for that.
I've obviously never been to Korea before and I've never been to a baseball game. So
the atmosphere is meant to be electric, but it's going to be really tight.
So I land about 2.30 tomorrow and I have to meet for the baseball game at 4.30,
which don't give me much time to get out of the airport, get to the centre,
get changed and off again. But we'll see how it goes. Hopefully, hopefully it's good.
