Elizabeth says some remedies seem to be
best practices for everyone such as
mindful eating mindful movement or
Ginger it is fair is it fair to
generalize what seems to work for many
and then develop a list of go-to
remedies for
beginners yeah it
is not that we wouldn't customize and
adapt but instead to build our toolbox
of remedies to start with
right
okay so yes Elizabeth there are some
go-to remedies that pretty much everyone
could
do and you gave an example already of
mindfulness mindfulness is objectively
good regardless of your circumstance for
the most part
okay and naturally we're going to ask
but wait isn't ayurveda always to the
individual isn't it always unique to the
circumstances and the answer is no it's
not always unique to the circumstances
there are some things that are
objectively good right
well what are those
things I'm going to say
that
um uh some
examples for a uh for
example uh we know this already life is
always good right health is always
good mindfulness is always good truth is
always
good Beauty happiness are always
good
right so uh things uh remedies that are
very close to those things
are very good in fact The Closer You Are
to those things the closer the remedy is
to those things the more good they are
okay and this is why I would say that
these objectively good things that uh uh
like the ones you've mentioned above are
very close to ends rather than means
right the ends do we know what we mean
by the ends versus the means the ends is
the goal and the means is how you get
there so
so health is the goal of
ayurveda and so everything is for that
so if there's a remedy that is very
close to health itself then it's very
very
good and some things are like that let's
go through these a little more
carefully uh these
transcendentals which are
goals uh have the nature of being object
actively good always and then means that
are close to them what are the means
that are close to them okay life is
always good in
fact uh existence is the definition of
the good and the classical philosophical
way of saying that is um bonam convert
ends the good is convertible to me to
being meaning that if we want to know
what is ultim Ely good it is going to be
that which has ultimate being or
existence right the more something is a
source of life and existence the better
it is right getting waxing poetic here
waxing philosophical the closer
something is to the source of life and
existence the more good the better it is
right this is the definition of the good
as
existence
being bonum is convert to OD ends all
right ends means being bonum means good
like a bonus right okay so health and
energy are very good if something gives
you Vitality if something gives you
energy if something gives you health
those things are very good because
that's very close to existence and
source of life that makes them very
good that's why people get addicted to
coffee they get addicted to coffee
because energy is very
good but unfortunately coffee doesn't
give you energy it burns up energy so
you feel energetic but you're losing
enery energy that's why it's an
addiction and not a good itself
right so we could say life is always
good but life is not always reduced to
personal health you can have greater
life through death
right that's possible suppose a person
sacrifices themselves for the good of
many then they have a greater life than
even being alive
a parent does this for their children I
have more life through my children than
my own
body
right I have more life through my
children than through my own
body okay
truth and reason is always good in fact
classically truth is convertible to
being as well Veritas convertor odd ends
is the classical philosophical statement
here that says if we were to ask
ourselves what is truth the answer would
be whatever is the source of life and
existence is truth itself because that's
what has ultimate being is there any
other possible measure of what is true
no what has real life right if we were
to say uh you know uh you know that 1+ 1
equals 2 is eternal statement that can't
be destroyed so that has more truth than
say the existence of the squirrel in my
backyard right um the squirrel can you
know P come and can can come and then
pass away uh 1 plus 1 equals 2 does not
so you might say the statement that
there exists a squirrel in my yard right
now is true but we can't say that the
you know squirrel will always exist
right so we can kind of create this
measure of Truth by
um you know by uh whether something is
corresponds actually truth is a relation
of the mind to reality something in my
mind a statement in my mind is
true is true if it corresponds to
reality
and something is true in
reality a measure of truth and reality
is um a degree of
participation in true TR true uh in the
in source of life and in the source of
life and
existence right these are deep
philosophical
questions uh which are hidden in
Elizabeth's uh uh question but there
worth mentioning I think there's some
good ground to cover
so because truth is always good
mindfulness and contemplation is very
good
right because mindfulness and
contemplation help us uh uh discern the
truth
now mindfulness can also be a
hindrance right if somebody if a burglar
were to break into my house and I'm
trying to protect my kids and reason
decides that it's time for me to fight
right I should have enough mindfulness
to come to the conclusion I must you
know protect my family from the
burglar right but the moment I decide to
fight I'm not going to sit in
contemplation and oh what is the best
way to fight the burg I'm not going to
be doing that I'm going to be moving
quickly quick action is needed
mindfulness can be hindrance in that so
it's so mindfulness is not the objective
good truth is but mindfulness is very
good
okay right the classical statement on
truth is also another uh is that uh
truth is the mind's relation to being
right is another sort of piffy way of
saying saying that uh beauty is is
always good beauty is actually defined
as the pleasant apprehension of the good
now we can reduce Beauty to vanity if
we're talking about uh you know the uh
uh popularity of some good
look of some uh the popularity of a
certain kind of look right that could
feed a person's vanity that's not what
we're talking about with beauty here
what is true
beautiful is something uh that where
where we can uh
immediately appreciate the good through
it right so what is objectively
beautiful uh what is objectively
beautiful that which makes the good
visible
the good in something
visible
okay so this goes to another correlation
the job of the artist is to make the
Magnificent
visible right this is true art you might
say true
art job of the artist is to make the
Magnificent visible
okay it's hard to see what is truly good
if we could all see what was truly good
elections would be effortless right we
wouldn't have to go through all the
stress and fighting back and forth of
you know this that or the other thing
and all the Shades of Gray and trying to
figure out who's the best candidate blah
blah blah if the Magnificent were if if
the good were easy always easy to see we
would uh have an easy election uh in
this country next week but you know with
all likelihood uh there's likely to be
you know riots on the day of election
and uh and because of the difficulty of
seeing the good well Beauty makes the
good visible and that is uh is always
good to make it
visible and uh on a personal level you
would say beauty is the pleasant
apprehension of the
good so that means you know
uh trying
to to become beautiful is a good thing
but we can see how that could quickly in
the case of beauty quickly turn into a
terrible thing uh a terribly vain thing
okay
happiness happiness is always good in
fact happiness is the goal of all all
Human
Action we want health because we believe
health will make us happy but health is
not
happiness we want wealth because we
think that wealth will make us
happy right there are some people that
Focus all their energy on
wealth and some people focus all their
energy on health
some people focus all their energy on
Glory this is I'm using the classical uh
popularity would be the modern
definition of
that
right some people focus on honor or
Perfection
right health wealth
uh Power was the other one power will
make us happy right these are the
classic
five great
distractions from
the from the good from the from the um
you know when I say the good I mean the
uh from the
good right there you might say
distractions or sub
substitutions substitutions of the whole
good because these are great in fact I
would say five very
good things that
nevertheless
become
uh
distractions from the whole good right
we can immediately see the goodness of
power wealth Health Glory and
Honor right we can immediately see the
goodness of all those
things the problem is is when they are
Pursuit as
ends uh in and in of themselves when we
start to worship wealth Health glory
honor or power they become not very good
but all those could be means to help us
on the road to happiness if they are
kept in
check okay so happiness is always good
and these five substitutes are very good
but so easily become Idols in themselves
that destroy the
person right contemplation of the means
to happiness very good but none of that
as good as happiness itself if you're
thinking about how to get to happiness
all day long that's very different than
being with a happy thing right like I
could I could be you you know trying to
get to happiness all day long and fail
to just sit with my child uh and
enjoy uh enjoy uh my
children to give a personal example here
of something that you know is only too
easy to forget to do
right how many parents in the struggle
of trying to help their children be
happy forget to just be happy with their
child
right all right
good
okay all right so we've talked about
some things that are always good and
that can be Pinnacles of uh you know of
a sort of universal go-to remedies for
for
beginners and uh and so where do we put
these
things generally we put them in daily
routine or
dearia that's where we say oh this is
always good for everyone to drink a
glass of water in the morning
right uh to be a little mindful in the
beginning of your
day start your day off by prioritizing
your action towards the ultimate aim of
human life life which is
happiness and
reorganize your task list in that
priority so that you start the day a
free person
liberated where you
choose using reason what will create
happiness for you before you check your
email and and your email decides the uh
priority of your day
yeah some parents uh want for their
children I see in the chat here that
some parents force their children to do
things like play the piano now I'm not
going to say that parents shouldn't
Force children to do things because
parents can see the objective good in
many cases where children cannot due to
uh life experience but uh What uh
Melissa is referring to as stage parents
here is apparent trying to um
project their
addictions uh to these distractions onto
their children and to have their
children you know if they were not uh
found themselves Unworthy of the glory
that they were seeking uh try to uh you
know get their children to live it out
for them
right so that uh that can be uh and of
course if uh someone's if a parent is
forcing a child to do something uh they
have to be very careful as well to be
reasonable about it and uh and not uh
make the child hate what they are
forcing them to do right so uh
yeah yeah then then music which is
beautiful becomes a
torture okay all right good so there's
uh just some background there on the
universal uh Universal
good Kate says I would love to know more
about false liquidity I am still trying
to
grasp the
concept but when we see excess fluid in
the
body right we see here she's using
definition
two excess fluid in the body is
definition two which I see as the
false uh uh X excess fluid in the body
is definition
two the false way of interpreting is
which
is which is the
incorrect
right um
definition two is
incorrect and so I think that's the
cause K of your confusion around false
liquidity but let's get to
that uh okay because isn't this when we
see excess fluid in the body but that's
stagnant and therefore dense okay
stagnant doesn't mean therefore dense
like suppose you have thin blood and
your heart stops working then your blood
will be stagnant but not dense right
stagnancy tends to become dense so we
would just you know again just for
precision's sake so that we know how
we're not conflating these
terms uh we would say and tens
to come from dense fluids
right just want to be clear here
stagnant excess flu in the body comes
from she's saying could come from
stagnancy which tends to come from
density for example lymphatic stagnation
makes a person
puffy due to excess fluid in the
body okay again let's uh I want to just
make sure that we're saying this in a
completely clear way it is not due to
excess fluid in the body but lymphatic
stagnation causes a
buildup of X of
fluid or because you can't eliminate it
essentially causes a buildup of fluid in
the body which makes a person puffy
right just want to get the the thinking
of this right we're going to close our
eyes and imagine the
pathogenesis and we were say
dense quality
for
example results in lymphatic stagnation
we can see the thickest molasses
plasma and it's sticky and not
moving causing lymphatic stagnation we
can do this with our eyes closed right
and because it's not getting eliminated
and not flowing back but the heart's
pumping more of it into the tissue we're
getting puffiness
okay so now we're CL very close to
answering the question
right fact we already have answered it
if there was Liquid quality as in the
first definition thin fluids if there
was low viscosity there would be no
stagnation at all
um so low viscosity is a remedy to
stagnation
uh yeah okay all right so in the
presentation false uh liquidity is just
the term that we're
using uh for something that appears to
be liquid but
isn't
okay so John can I ask a question yeah
is it possible to have excess liquid
that is thin
excess liquid is often
thin but but if you have no I'm not
going to say that no it's not excess
liquid tends to come excess liquid tends
to come from dents like confa people
with edema have edema because their
fluids are dense excess liquid typically
comes uh from uh from
dense excess fluid buildup typically
comes from dense stagnant
blood
not thin
blood so
excess
liquid
oily
and dense quality are
similar dry
uh or excess water sorry I want to say
excess fluid yeah not excess liquid
excess fluid oily and dense quality are
similar dry low
viscosity and liquid goona are
similar right
is that clear to everyone you're still
confused and I'm telling you the
confusion is just about uh the the uh
vocabulary it's because when you close
your eyes and see uh the word liquid in
English people think of water that's not
what we want to think about it what we
want to think about is a person drinking
uh a
milkshake and some restaurants make the
milkshake thick
and some restaurants make the milkshake
thin so if you imagine a child drinking
milk a milkshake that was more
milk instead of more ice cream right
like if you blend the ice cream and the
milk together if you put a lot of ice
cream it becomes dense if you put only a
little bit of ice cream it's mostly milk
it's more like liquid right so you're
thinking liquid you close your eyes and
think of a person drinking milk through
a
straw d you close your eyes and think of
a person drinking a thick milkshake
through a straw and they're like sucking
you know the milk through the straw so
hard they give their cheeks hickeys
right you end up with like you know you
ever have a milkshake where you're
sucking so hard it's like your your your
cheeks
hurt it's literally giving your cheek a
hickey that's how you want to think of
dense
liquid push out the vision of water all
together and think about it in regard to
milkshakes and you'll have a easy time
with
it yeah a spoon exactly because it won't
go through the straw you need a spoon
right if you need a fork when you're
drinking your milkshake it's too dense
well except a spoon
though all right good
so again false liquidity
here uh it means simply something that
appears to be associated with liquid
gona but isn't there's all kinds of
examples of false goas
in uh or all kinds of clinical scenarios
where there are false gooners take for
example
uh dry skin dry cold skin of a person
with hypothyroid you see their
skin they have hypothyroid which means
low
metabolism um and with low metabolism
you have a lot of weight
gain
and uh you have uh because of low
metabolism you tend to the person tends
to have a lower heart rate and low
muscle tone generally so their blood
doesn't circulate as well because their
heart rate's
low in fact uh their blood doesn't
circulate well in the skin and they get
cold and then because they're
[Music]
cold their capillary
beds uh uh constrict and that makes
their skin dry
right think about it hypothyroid low
metabolism makes you chilly and then
your capillary beds close in the skin
and you uh and then so your skin uh is
cold and dry because there's no blood in
it no blood in it you can imagine this
with your inner eye always imagine the
these uh pathogenesis these these uh
development of the doas because this
cold dry skin is not Vata most people
say you look up in a textbook what's dry
skin Oh dry skin V well not when it's a
thyroid dry skin and thyroid dry skin uh
the cause is Kaa this is false dry and
also not false
cold but false
dry that makes
sense okay
okay good so when you see the word false
it just means looks like it's real dry
but it's not real dry it's false
dry
okay Laura my question is related to the
following rich blood that's high in
sugar salt protein and results in low
osmotic pressure in the blood okay so we
got rich and low yes we're all good so
far osmotic pressure pH exists when two
quantities of fluid and a different
concentration of solid particles are
separated by a membrane which doesn't
permit the passage of the particles but
it does permit the passage of the fluid
usually
water okay so that's
definition what happens is that this
situation creates a pressure gradient
causing water to move from the side
with lowest concentration to the side
with highest
concentration until both concentrations
are equal
yes okay so maybe blood has a high
osmotic pressure not low in order to be
able to attract water no uh it is low
pressure things attract right something
that has high pressure pushes things
away think think about it if something's
under high pressure it wants to leave if
something is low pressure it's saying
come to me
right
so high
pressure equals pushes
away low
pressure equals come to me
attractive okay
I see uh Melissa you're putting in the
chat how does false dryness work so I
gave the example before did you uh are
you you still have a question about this
after I gave the thyroid or you want me
to just write it out maybe if I write it
out it'll be
hypothyroid is low metabolism low
metabolism is
cold right cold means Vaso constriction
of the skin
