Welcome to this particular course on wind energy.
So my name is Ashok Dev.
I'm currently a faculty in aerospace engineering at IIT Kanpur and also having my joint affiliation
with sustainable energy engineering at IIT Kanpur.
So this particular course is going to give you an idea about wind energy.
I mean as you all know that wind energy is rapidly evolving field and this particular
course is designed in such a way that that will give you overview of the wind energy
and how that connects with the green energy generation process.
While doing so there are some fundamental knowledges that we would like to cover
and then we'll move with the wind energy details and things like that.
So whole idea about this course is that we talk about the fundamental principle of wind energy
and then the science of wind generation, aerodynamics and all these things.
These are the tentative topic that we would like to cover in this particular course.
Obviously to start with the basic green energy or wind energy details and things like that.
Then we would go over the review of basic concepts of fluid mechanics
which is a key component of this particular course because whatever we'll do later on
when we talk about the like vertical axis wind turbine, horizontal axis wind turbine
and their design procedure, your understanding of the basic fluid mechanics and
aerodynamics is important. So those are the things that we'll cover here
and then we move to this particularly the vertical axis wind turbine and horizontal
axis wind turbine and finally towards the end we'll talk about the control and the
other harnessing methods and then finally we'll give you some perspective of the CFD
and things like that. Coming back to the some of the textbook that one can follow is that
on aerodynamics of this wind turbine, then wind turbine technology, you'll have wind energy and
things like that and obviously some books on other reference books. So here probably would
cover from different books because topics that would be taking from different materials.
Obviously some research components also would be used in this particular course
and that's towards the end you will get an overview of the whole wind energy and
the design procedure and then we'll finally conclude with how the experimental or computational
methods would be helpful to design this. Thank you and I would like to welcome you all
for this particular course in the coming semester.
