hello I Dr chendra sahu from the
Department of Civil Engineering at it
khur and I welcome all of you to this
course called environmental fluid
mechanics I will be offering this course
through nptl uh platform in the coming
semester and this course is offered for
uh senior ug strengths those who may be
in their final
years and PG strengths like MC mtech and
PhD and also for faculty members who
might be Affiliated at different
institutes across the
country so in this course as the name
suggest we are going to fluid mechanics
of the environment and what exactly it
means so we all have been hearing a lot
of talks about air pollution water
pollution right so these all happens
because environment is polluted how are
they getting polluted that is a question
that we are going to answer in this
course right so we all know that
environment has been already polluted
there has been a lot of air pollution
and if you think about above the ground
and if you think about below the ground
there is water pollution right but how
does it happen this happens when there
is a leakage of contaminants from a
particular source
right and and that disperses in the
atmosphere or in the environment both
above the ground and below the ground in
form of different kind of flows like
plumes and gravity currents so these
flows arise when there is a density
difference or there is a buoyancy
difference so we are going to see how do
these flows form like plumes gravity
currents waves verticity Dynamics Etc uh
in different conditions right and how
terance transport from uh one point to
another Point using these
flows so in this course we will uh
mostly use mathematical techniques to uh
formulate these problems or formulate
these Flows In deriv Solutions and we'll
also refer to some lab experiments which
have been performed by others to
validate these models so we'll start
first with the flows above the ground
and and later we'll go to the flows
below the ground and and we will see how
transport happens in Porous media which
which basically uh brings water
pollution right so once the course is
complete uh I believe you will have
sufficient knowledge at least in the
basics of this of this area uh how uh
environment gets polluted from the
techniques that you will learn in this
course I believe you'll be able to apply
to more complicated uh or or more
realistic type scenarios uh for it
practical use so I look forward to
meeting all of you during the course and
and I'll be happy to answer more uh uh
questions you may have uh through email
thank you
