Hello friends, welcome to Multivariate Procedure with R Software course.
My name is Shalabh and I am a professor in Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
In this course, I am going to talk about various tools related to statistics.
The first question is, what is it?
As we know about statistics, it has an important role in statistical modelling.
Modelling is a relationship between our input and output variables, which we try to show through mathematics.
And the tools of statistics help us in this.
And whenever we talk about an input and output variable, what happens in it?
For example, if we say that I have to tell about a person whether he is healthy or not.
Now, does a person's health depend on only one factor or one variable?
Or does it depend on many variables?
That is, a person's blood pressure, blood sugar, body temperature and many other factors.
When all these factors are within our limits, then we say that a person is healthy.
If a person's blood pressure is very high, but his blood sugar level or other variables are in control, will you call him healthy?
Maybe not.
That is why, we are going to understand the multivariate procedure, which is a relationship between one output variable and more than one input variable.
Now, we have to compute the various methods of our statistics on the basis of numerical data.
We have a lot of software to do this.
We are going to use R software in this course.
R software is a free software and you can download it from any R software site without paying any money.
In this course, we will talk about the multivariate procedures of our statistics and we will try to show their implementation through R software.
Now, what do you need to do this course?
I believe that you have studied at least 10 to 12 mathematical levels.
You should have knowledge of R software.
But, there are many topics in R software.
It is a big challenge for us to understand the topics from that ocean.
For that, we will devote some of our lectures on R software.
We will try to tell you about the topics that we are going to use in the future.
You can strengthen the topics in your own way.
Secondly, we expect you to have some basic elementary knowledge about statistics.
When we talk about multivariate, what does it mean?
Before multivariate, we have univariate.
If we have only one variable or two variables,
we will not be able to understand the tools related to one or two variables in multivariate.
For that, I have planned this course in such a way that we will teach you the minimum tools of statistics that we need to understand multivariate tools.
Apart from that, we will try to extend it from one variable to two variables and from two variables to multivariate variables.
Definitely, we need to have a good knowledge of mathematics in statistics.
I will keep the level of mathematical proofs of my results very low.
I will try to show you the application part only.
But to show the application part, we need to know the basic fundamentals of that tool.
In this course, I will tell you about some elementary operations of R software, which we are going to use in the future.
I will try to give you the elementary concepts of statistics in the beginning.
I hope that you will be able to understand what I have explained to you in a short time.
If not, then you can learn by yourself to strengthen your knowledge.
After that, I will take you to multivariate procedures with the same univariate and bivariate procedures.
This is how we will plan this course.
We will try to understand how to compute the tools that we are going to develop in R software.
We will also try to understand how to read the output of R software.
Let us start our multivariate procedure from the next lecture.
Before that, I hope that you will revise the preliminary concepts of statistics about R software.
Let us meet again in the next lecture, where we will start our multivariate procedure with R software course.
Till then, goodbye.
