Looking for the best restaurants in Oaxaca and wondering what it’s like to travel during the pandemic - look no further. On this Oaxaca Food Tour we bring you to Pitiona, Casa Oaxaca, and Tierra del Sol, where we showcase some of the best food in Oaxaca, Mexico and highlight the safety precautions these places are taking to make traveling during COVID-19 safe.
Traveling Mexico 2021: People keep asking us, is Mexico dangerous? Is Mexico safe during the pandemic? Of course like anywhere it depends on where you are and what your intentions are, but we have found that we feel more safe living here in Oaxaca than back in the US. The only people in Oaxaca you don’t see wearing masks for the most part are foreigners. Open-air restaurants with rooftops and socially-distanced tables can be found on every block. Upon entering any establishment they take your temperature, give you sanitizer, and spray you down with disinfectant. The people here are very conscious of practicing correct safety measures to keep everyone safe and healthy. You have to realize that they don’t have a government or fund that will bail them out. They rely on themselves and their community to do the work to see the containment of this virus. It’s a simple lesson we were taught as children, look out for those you love - we are nothing without our community.
Who are we? We are The Country Collectors! For the past 9 years we have been traveling the world in search of unique experiences that fuel our fire for life! This journey has taken us to 39 countries together and we have no plan of stopping anytime soon. Our goal is to inspire you, even just a little, to get out of your comfort zone and check off those items on your bucket list. Like my mom says, never say I should have, I would have, or I could have - JUST DO IT! No regrets! - XOXO - Heidi & Adam

a nice breakfast place with a beautiful
rooftop terrace that overlooks santo

[Music]
one of our favorite things about casa
oaxaca are their drinks they have such a
huge variety
of wines mezcals beers whatever you want
tonight i went with a mescal cocktail
oh it's delicious it is absolutely
delicious
so one of the coolest parts of this
restaurant is they make table side
salsa and they make it to your
preferential heat level
so we say spicy so you put in a ton of
chilies for us
they also add capolines which are the
little grasshoppers
that give it a lot of saltiness it's a
really fun thing that they do here at
casa oaxaca it just adds to the
ambiance of the meal
as you know from our previous video
passion fruit is one of my favorites
i'm really excited
[Music]
this dish is honestly like one of the
most perfect ways to start your meal
it's very light and the flavors are
so punched in i love it
which is looks like i may be getting
lucky later
oh yeah so this is a yo rache
or an oval shaped tortilla that has pork
shake on top
it looks so freaking good
this is the smoked cauliflower salad so
what's the sauce
it's a honey vinaigrette with a honey
vinaigrette
a peanut sauce here's some avocado some
local smoked cheese
let's get ready to eat some more
who's pumped for the main event i know
we are
[Music]
one of my favorite things about mexico
is they turn everything into a taco
and our waiter at this very fancy
restaurant just said i recommend you
make that into a taco so
that's what i'm gonna do
didn't have a chance
it's time for bed we'll see you tomorrow
for another great feast
what's good in the hood what's
crackalackin
so we're back here at santa domingo
we're headed to the third restaurant
in this rooftop restaurant series today
we're going to
tierra del sol sierra del sol it's a
surprise he didn't know
as you know we're in mexico and we
haven't really showcased a lot of the
mexican food here
so this restaurant is gonna have more
traditional mexican dishes
so we're excited to show you those a
chihuahua
come along as we experience some
traditional
mexican flavors
[Music]
check out this traditional open kitchen
right inside the entrance
those tortillas look muy ricas
[Music]
so something they just brought out to
the table this cute little
blue corn tortilla topped with local
cheese
and some fresh salsa i hope my food is
bigger than this
one bite everyone knows the rules
[Music]
so i got what the waiter suggested turns
out it's a negroni with mezcal
let's see how it is
[Music]
it's bitter and delicious
[Music]
look at her making our traditional
appetizers the trio day to taylas and
garnachas
wow so neat look how cool these are
[Music]
blue corn and amarillo yellow corn
and our little garnachas they're so good
what do you like better just don't tell
anybody
i don't know if it's too early for a
delicious dance break but i'm gonna do
it anyway
there's so many people here don't tell
anybody
here we have crema de chapolines a
grasshopper cream soup
are you ready to see me eat some bugs
it's so salty and that's from the
grasshoppers
it's delicious this is chiliajo amarillo
pork ribs cooked in a spicy yellow mole
espicante you don't even need to cut it
it fell right off the bone
[Music]
there's always room for a dessert or two
he's in heaven
