hand-drawn war and learn Chinese now are connected with the NTDTV so I can draw more foreigners view of China is more directly connected and it's basically it's run by a TV station and you need a mic definitely is possible to learn because it's you know I mean I learned it and a lot of other people learn it but I will say that it is more easy to learn if you are really interested in it if you watch someone who's just learning it for business because you're gonna go on business to China and you're not really that interested in the language then I would say that it's actually pretty could be easy to learn and how someone says if you put in 2000 hours yes it is I think I've put in more than 2000 hours now there's a rule actually they say if you put in 10 pound you need to put in 10,000 hours to be a master or something I don't know if I've put in 10,000 but you definitely do need to put in a lot of hours I stood a learning manner in for fun people think I'm crazy yet people will my other channels localized in one country we're just showing you guys these things as well this is kind of like my collection of Chinese artifacts this one is Jing Chi Lam I think I mean anyway it's a type of Chinese cloisonne inherited from my grandma and then we have this you see this one this is a Jade Dragon kind of thing also inherited from my grandma's collection of Chinese artifacts very very cool I display them here I try to keep it clean but it always keeps getting cluttered with various things yeah we have here to drape Jade Lions which were also kind of antiques from that collection this thing here actually this is from Taiwan and it's a Apple made of wood and it's very special because if you if you take out the top of it and then you smell it it's an incredibly if you could smell that it's an incredible smell it's a very aromatic you know kind of smell very special type of wood and then we also have this one here which is another Chinese Chinese Bowl what made you interested in learning Chinese that someone says who says that nice swords in the background okay so what made you interested many Chinese well I learn Chinese because I used to do a lot of chinese kungfu hence the swords later on I got interested in kind of Buddhism meditation and I ended up practicing Falun Gong which is a Chinese meditation practice a very wonderful practice just makes your body incredibly healthy and it's clear the mind and it's pretty incredible but anyway it's it's through doing things like that that got me into learning Chinese and so yeah that's why I started and then I was doing it for hobby and then I thought hey I'll I'll you know I'll do it for university and that's what I did so I use the credit sure from what you inspired you to start that channel so yeah we have another channel called the credit shufoo which is a channel about how to improve your credit score and the way I got started with that that one is that I when I moved to the United States I discovered that it's very hard to live here without a credit score you get you have to you know pay a huge amount of money to rent an apartment or you know upfront deposit or whatever and so I started building my credit school and I found a lot of information about it and then I decided to make a channel about it so Dave says not far wrong I I think I think you should perhaps do a little bit more research on it there's a lot of information out there from you know that's kind of like sponsored by the Chinese government kind of propaganda about it because after all far-gone has been banned in China and it is not a just thing that is going on there there's a huge amount of human rights abuses going on in China many religions are you know persecuted there right now Christians have been targeted in China most recently but I just know it's a bit to do in the mainland so yeah I would encourage you to go and you know do some research on it yourself searching on Google in a country like the United States or the UK where there's no Great Firewall and do your own research on it and find out about it but I can tell you personally that it is a wonderful practice very good for your health and not like what mainland China's Chinese regime is would say about it so someone says did you do Chinese in university yes I did I had a Chinese at the School of Oriental African Studies at the University of London London - yeah yeah facia yeah and yeah basically it is I did modern classical Chinese so we did modern Chinese and we studied also a classical Chinese it's very interesting one of my favourite topics we did a lot of Tong dynasty poetry study of that which is very very cool and that's you know where I got the kind of idea to put you know to do some poems in in our videos as well what happened with only in Asia well yeah in Asia it's a little bit of a saw a little bit of a soft topic that one because I started that kind of when I worked full-time at a TV station which owns this channel and owned that channel but that actually got canceled I I really pushed for that I actually wanted to start that channel about a year before it started and I really pushed for it to be like you know a funny show about viral videos coming out of Asia and I thought a lot of potential there but unfortunately you know just the business plan with these things sometimes other people don't have the same view as you and that's just like you know it's it's a shame we've actually you know it's off it's offline now that channel unfortunately but this channel will be still online and I but I just wanna let you know that I am gonna try and do some live broadcasts and in each live broadcast and we'll probably think we'll probably talk talk a little bit about one piece of vocabulary so broadcast and okay let me just take a look at one or two more questions how long to be conversational I would say if you study let's say this person studying pretty intense studying pretty intense in and out of trying for about six months okay so I would say if you study full-time you study for one year then you're kind of ready to be able to have basic conversations like you're not like like to communicate okay so like you're not fully understanding what the person says outside of the specific vocabularies that you've studied I'll give you an example like after I'd studied for a year I was able to call up the the family that I was gonna stay at in his home stay in Taiwan and I was able to say to them oh hi I'm coming today from Tokyo and I'm gonna arrive in Taiwan at this time and I have this much luggage I'll be at your house whatever time right and you know I could understand them saying okay yes cool we'll see you later I couldn't understand any other other things they said all right so this kind of like communicate basic communication it's like one year and then after one year you're good enough to be thrown in the deep end writing code or like China or Taiwan or wherever and be thrown into that intensive environment and then I would say after living there for a year so total study time two years but living in like a Chinese environment for a year like just as I left Taiwan I was like pretty much understanding almost everything people were saying in you know normal conversations so you know one year in the environment or you know maybe if you studied full-time for a year then you went for like six months so China Taiwan wherever you would be probably conversational from from that point on what happened with your channel you've been gone for so long yep we don't really do we don't really have the means to work on this channel full-time anymore or you know often but we're gonna try and do some live broadcasts where we will teach you resume
