Welcome everybody to the ninth round of the unofficial Grassroots Motorsports Sim Racing
League. We are racing the Singer Porsches, the mid-level version of the car. I believe these are
about 395 horsepower-ish. For those that don't know Singers, they are a Porsche 911 turned up
to 11. Today's race is going to be at the Daytona International Speedway. We're going to be running
the road course, the same course that the Daytona 24 hours race is run on. Today's track temperature
will be approximately 85 degrees. We have a very tight field going into this race. Myself,
Pro Darwin, and Rodan are all within about 15 points of each other in the race to the championship.
And then there is a large gaggle of cars starting with air-cooled and running all the way back to
Mike. All of them are covered by seven points total. The point system we're using is that of
the Super GT series in Japan, which we take the number of series points you have accrued
and we multiply it by two and we put that many kilograms of weight into the car. This track can
be particularly tricky. There are extremely high speed sections for most of the track, but
you have to brake really, really hard coming into the bus stop at the back part of the track, and
then again coming into turn one. Get it right and you can pick up a tremendous amount of time, but
get it wrong and at best you just lose some time and in many cases you are off into the weeds.
As I mentioned previously, we are running Singer Porsches based on the Porsche 911.
The handling of these cars I think at best could be called challenging. They do not like to have
the chassis upset. Generally speaking, braking will cause you to crash, particularly if you're
trying to turn. Unlike most other cars, if you're in trouble you're probably better off putting in
power, so that can lead to some very exciting racing. The racing format is a 10-minute qualifying
followed by two 15-minute races. The second race has a reverse grid based upon the finishing order
of the first race. This can lead to some very close and exciting racing as cars try to carve
their way back up through the field. We've had some tremendous finishes in this format,
particularly in the second race. So without further ado, let's get on with the show.
