Do you ever run into, I mean, you've obviously gone to places like Comic-Con,
do you ever run into young kids whose minds are blown when they see you?
Their minds do get blown. I feel like I'm the mayor of Comic-Con.
Yeah.
My normal life seems incredibly dull and passive, but when I'm at Comic-Con, I'm a deity.
I bet that's true.
Yeah.
You were in the SNL cast. SNL just hired Pete Davidson, who's 20 years old.
Wow.
And you were 20 years old when you started on the show,
and I can't even comprehend what that was like.
Well, that was 1985, and I have no recollection of that year.
Okay. So we have the same memories of that, which are no memories.
Well, it's just mind-blowing to think that you can be so young, and you go, as we know,
you go into the comedy boot camp.
Yeah.
And you become fame desensitized because you turn around and there's like David Bowie.
Yeah.
And you get to see all these people that you've kind of grown up admiring,
but like I said, I don't remember any of them.
Right. Because that's mid-'80s, and you grew up, because you live in L.A. now.
You live in Malibu.
Yeah.
But you grew up 70s and 80s in New York City,
which is a time where people say it was really rough here,
but I wish I could have seen what it was like.
Oh, it was so good.
Yeah, it was so good.
Yeah, it was really fun.
I would go to Rocky Horror Picture Show on the weekends, all dressed up weird,
and then we'd get like, you know, beat up, and it was so fun.
Beat up and mugged.
You just always got to get new driver's license,
because they were constantly getting stolen.
Yeah, I don't even think people were carting anybody back then.
Yeah, it was just, if you wanted to come in, God love you.
Yeah.
Come on in.
If you can get in.
And then, I read something about one of your first jobs was in an art installation,
which sounds like the most 70s New York thing.
It was a club called Area.
Okay, a club called Area.
I put on a space suit, and I sent Gumby dolls down a conveyor belt at this club.
So, people are dancing and drinking, and they urine.
It was on the entryway.
You walked in, and I would be part of this space theme.
That was this famous, famous club.
It was $10 an hour, and all the cognac you could drink.
Wow.
How long a shift did you have to have on the Gumby assembly line?
You know, like 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., but then at 2 a.m., that's when things kicked off.
Just got to get through the shift so I can go to the other clubs.
You produced this film as well.
Yes.
And you're producing partners, your wife.
Yes, Susan Downey.
That's very exciting.
And Team Downey is your production company, so it seems like you're in this together.
It's just a little ma and pa shop with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line.
How is it working with your wife?
She's a tyrant.
Yeah, okay.
She's the greatest.
I mean, you know, a producer is like trying to work with mercury.
They're just trying to.
It's like herding cats on psychedelics 24 hours a day,
because us artist types are, well, we're kind of nuts.
Yeah, but she does a good job.
She does a great job.
She's a fantastic producer.
And you have this film coming up, and then there's another Sherlock Holmes, yes?
Do you want one?
I would love one.
Okay, great.
Thank you.
And that's it?
That's all it took?
Yep.
Just I asked and I got it?
Oh, that's really exciting.
Well, I'm a big fan, Chef.
Thank you so much.
I'm announcing it here.
I feel like we should ask.
Later, we're going to ask everybody else here what else they want,
and we'll see if they can do it for you as well.
Please.
You know, I know a lot of people are talking about an Iron Man 4,
but I think just let's go right to 5.
That would blow their mind.
You do Iron Man 5, and then everybody.
And they'll really want 4, because they missed one.
Yeah, they'll miss one.
Right, got it.
Got it, here we go.
That's how you produce a movie.
Robert Downey Jr., everybody.
