American Tries German Käsespätzle for the First Time!! (German Mac&Cheese?)

What's up everybody? We are Deanna and Phil. Deanna is from the United States and I'm from Germany and we are in Munich right now and we thought we take the opportunity and go for Deanna's first ever German Käsespätzle. Pretty excited. Everyone's been talking it up. So let's go. Okay I've never had Käsespätzle. Am I saying it right? Yeah Käsespätzle. I've never had Käsespätzle before but in one of our videos Phil compared it to mac and cheese. I've eaten a lot of mac and cheese. I love mac and cheese so my expectations are pretty high. You said it was awesome. A lot of people in the comments said it's better than mac and cheese. Yeah. So we'll see. Yeah and we thought since we're in Bavaria it's where it's from right? Might be Baden-Württemberg. I'm not sure where it's from. Anyway people in the south eat it a lot so we thought it's a good opportunity. All right so we came to this place called Augustiner am Dom which is right at the women's church. It's right there. That is it. That's it. The famous church. We're sitting right on it. It's totally empty. They just opened. It's 10.08 and they open at 10 o'clock. I want to think this is one of the better places in the city to come to. In the city center everything is a little more expensive but there are some good restaurants and I think this one has a decent reputation. That's why we decided to come to this one and try your Käsespätzle. Yes it smells so good. It just arrived. I'm so hungry. Looks so good. There's these fried onions and it looks like chives on top. They're both spoons for me. Do I just eat it like this? Oh. I know I'm here too so I got a little plate. Oh my goodness it smells so good. Look at this. Look at this pull. See that cheese pull. Wow this is gonna be a fun car ride back. With the crunchy onion. Yeah that looks awesome. First bite of Käsespätzle ever. Dude what is it a pasta? It's like a little bit of thicker like almost like a gnocchi texture but thinner. Yeah that describes it nicely. You could say it's a mix between like a macaroni and gnocchi. I think the best bites are the ones with the the onions in it. These grilled onions. Fried onions? Fried onions sorry. Fried onions. This plate's for me. They brought that little salad for you and a small plate. Kleine Telle. Good dish. That's just grass sitting there for you. So the texture is a little doughy. It's more of like a I can't gnocchi I think is the best way to describe it because it's but it's thinner so it's a little more doughy and it has a nice cheese pull and I think the best bites are with the crunch. Taste-wise it's not too cheesy if that makes sense. Like I think mac and cheese in the US has a very strong cheese cheddar and mozzarella flavor. It's just not as sharp of a cheese flavor. I'm not really sure what cheese is used in this. It's not dry but it is less cheesy. I don't really know how to describe it. It's not super creamy or anything. Does it normally come with these fried onions on top? Yes. It does? I think that's the best. This is like such a good combination in my opinion. This might be my favorite dish I've had in Germany. Really? Like overall. I didn't think that you would. You didn't seem too excited so I didn't know you were going to say that. Maybe it's early. I'm not like as like enthusiastic as normal. Except for the donuts. No no. I think this is better than a donut. What? In my opinion. I like this stuff. This is my stuff. Mac and cheese is my like favorite. Blasphemy. All right so how does it compare to mac and cheese? I don't know. I have to. It's so hard. A good mac and cheese is my favorite but I really like this pasta dough. What is it? This is so good. It's a very heartier texture. I would give it like a nine out of ten. Wow. This is like my genre of food. Cheese, carbs, a little bit of crunch. Susti lactose intolerant girl. That's awesome. You don't get any. Eat it. All right I'll like some please. No. Load me up. No. Give me all the crunchy onions. That's all you get. Fine. There are no onions on that. I see that. I don't know what you're talking about. That's a nice mix. All right so Diana loves it but the question is is this the best Käsespätzle? I'm gonna tell you even though I'm absolutely no Käsespätzle expert. Well as I said before I lived here for a little bit and I lived in Baden-Württemberg as well. I had it like three times in my life. How have you only had it three times when you lived in this area? Because I think it's not the best dish in the world to be honest. If I have noodles or pasta I want a proper sauce with it not just cheese. No you just want tomato that's not a proper sauce. It's definitely something nice. I want to say it's this typical meal that you crave. You eat a bunch load out of it and then you feel just bad. Lie on the couch for the rest of the day regretting your life. That's what I'm gonna be doing. And as soon as it's gone you want to have more. You'll be driving and I'll be sitting in the passenger seat. Yeah so I think it's it's decent. It's pretty good. I get what you're saying it's not super cheesy. Is it normally super cheesy? I mean it depends on how you make it but I think it could be a little more saucy like a little more cheese a little more fluid like you said. I think it's good though I really like this. Dude I love the onions alright the best part. Dude the onions are fantastic. I think on the Käsespätzle scale this just might be a six or seven from the worst to the best. But I think it's overall good but for me that's just not my realm of food. I want to try where a 10 out of 10 Käsespätzle is. If you know of it let me know. Dude that was so good. That's totally my jam. We usually don't eat this early but I'm so glad we did. I feel like that's something I could eat a ton of in one sitting.
