We're entering a new chapter of the Jurassic World franchise.
What's it like to see this legacy franchise continue even after your own chapter?
I mean, it's the best, honestly.
Because, A, I really want to come back in like 30 years.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Just like the legacy cast did.
Exactly, exactly.
And so, those movies ask such important questions.
And they are so thrilling.
And we can't get enough of dinosaurs.
The thing that I'm most excited about is that the team that has come together to create that film
are a lot of the folks who created the original Jurassic Park.
David Koepp is writing the script.
Obviously, Frank Marshall's involved.
Scarlett Johansson is in it.
Rehershala Ali.
I know.
I mean, they're gonna kill it.
Do you think ScarJo's running in heels the way you did in that first one?
Oh, she would outrun me.
Oh, really?
Oh, yeah.
You think?
I know.
I don't know.
You kind of showed out on that first one.
You really did.
She's my neighbor.
I know.
Oh, so she knows.
She's seen her jogging.
She's fit.
I love it.
She's perfect.
I mean, how cool is this, by the way?
Are you geeking out that we get to celebrate the premiere here?
It's the best.
You're back directing more for the Star Wars universe, which is so awesome.
I know it's a labor of love for literally everybody here.
What can you tell us about your skeleton crew episode?
Oh, my goodness.
Without giving away much, what I love so much about my episode is it really is about friendship
and the friendship between these young people, and they're being faced with a lot.
There's a lot of peril.
Because it's Star Wars.
And just kind of the bonds that we experience when we're kids, the ways in which we're tested
and overcome things that we never thought that we could overcome.
And having your best friends in the world be witness to that, be a part of that.
It's just the best thing that I love to see in movies.
It's like Stand By Me or Goonies.
Goonies.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I also feel like it's a childhood fantasy.
I feel like I'm doing that in my backyard, and these kids got to do it on screen, which is so, so cool.
Any advice you imparted on them as you were working with them?
I know they're total pros.
Yeah, I mean, truly they are total pros.
And so I haven't given them any explicit advice because they're on it.
They got it.
But some things that I'm kind of just checking in with them about right now is just how you're doing.
This is very stimulating because there's the part of our work which is creating characters
and collaborating and making a story, you know, and doing that.
There's a lot of hands in this one, too.
Yes, yes, yes.
And they need no support with that.
And, of course, they're so good with all this press stuff.
But I would say just for young people, like the mother's side of me, I'm just like, I'm like. . .
Checking in.
How you doing?
How are you being?
Good, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Are you having fun?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Are you having fun?
Exactly.
Can you keep a secret?
Working with Jude Law.
I mean, from a director's perspective, what kind of actor would you say he is?
I'll tell you.
So my dad was very lucky because he got to work with Jude Law right after I worked with him.
And he asked me that question.
He was like, what is it like working with Jude Law?
And I said, well, you're about to die and go to director heaven.
Oh, good.
Like director heaven.
OK.
He's right there.
Say it louder.
I'm just kidding.
You're a dream.
No, no, he's beyond, beyond, beyond, beyond.
He's one of the greats.
You know, he's at a moment in his career where we've seen just the expansive array of roles
and abilities and just kind of things that he's taken on as an artist is incredibly impressive.
And so the fact that he's here now doing Star Wars is thrilling to have a talent like that.
