My name is Piero and I'm eight years old.
I'm very excited because it's December and, finally, Christmas is approaching.
I live in Italy, in a small village near Florence.
At Christmas, the streets of my village are filled with colorful lights.
In the piazza del paese, they always put up a huge tree decorated with many garlands.
Also, throughout the month, there are Christmas markets on the streets.
Some stalls sell sweets, other toys and other handmade decorations.
The atmosphere is magical and I love to go, because there's always the scent of roasted chestnut.
My family has many traditions.
On December 8th we will open the Christmas house.
One day, we put the Christmas tree and the crib.
The presepe is a representation of the birth of Jesus,
with statues of Mary, Giuseppe, the baby Jesus and the shepherds.
December 24th is Christmas Eve.
My mom and dad are cooking a special dinner for the whole family.
The menu is the same every year, as an appetizer, seafood,
Come on, first pizza, spaghetti all the way.
It comes second to baccalà alla Livornese.
But without a doubt, the best is the sweetest.
I've never missed a good panettone and a pandoro.
During dinner, we had a lot of fun singing Christmas carols.
After dinner, we all go together to the mezzanotte mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
December 25th is my favorite day, because Santa brings presents.
I always wake up for the first time and run all over the tree for the last time I get the presents you brought for me.
On January 6th we celebrate the Epiphany.
It's a very funny day because there are parades in the streets.
According to tradition, La Befana, an old woman resembling a witch who flies on a scope,
Bring me some sweet treats and sugar candy and some Monelli.
And me, for now, no one's ever touched the carbon.
Christmas in Italy is a very special time.
Without a doubt, it's my favorite time of year, because it brings joy and warmth to our hearts.
