Discover the incredible ingenuity of Al Hackel, a master welder and machinist from Bloomington, USA. Witness his groundbreaking creation: a chopper style motorcycle powered by a massive 1700cc single-cylinder engine, ingeniously crafted from an aircraft engine. This unique custom build showcases Hackel's exceptional skills and creativity, turning aviation engineering into an extraordinary piece of motorcycle artistry.
The Light Air 975 is an air-cooled large piston engine produced by the Light Aviation division of Curtiss Light Company from 1929 to 1950.
This engine is an old cylinder engine with 300 to 450 horsepower.
With a 16,000 cubic meter light-arms 975 wall-window, the supercharger will be able to demonstrate its versatility and durability in various applications.
This engine was used in aircraft at the time, and also became the main power of combat vehicles such as the M18 Helcat and M4 Sherman tank.
These tanks are rated for their high radar reliability, mobility and speed.
Or a 975 engine.
Not only for ground vehicles, this engine was also adopted for rotary-wing aircraft used in UH-25 Army Mules and H.U.L.T.R.E. helicopters.
These helicopters, characterized by excellent tanked rotors for stability and cargo capacity, are ideal for logistics and military transportation missions.
Historically, the R975 engine has never been associated with a motorcycle or other two-wheeled vehicle.
However, with the out-of-the-ordinary innovation of a man named Al Hackl from Blueminton, USA, the situation changed dramatically.
With a creative vision and a strong passion for innovation, Al Hackler took on the big task of creating a custom motorcycle using components from the LightR975 engine.
This unique project not only revealed his machine expertise, but also marked a new chapter in the history of the use of legendary engines.
A man who works as a welder, repairing agricultural machinery and designing multi-purpose machines, runs a small workshop in his backyard, and uses it as a place to do his hobby experiments while doing his job.
He is also interested in the automotive world, especially classic cars, and he also makes several old cars.
He was once interested in producing a classic Harley with a Nackturhead engine.
However, given the high price of the Nackelhead unit, his dream of producing a Nackelhead Harley could not be realized.
The price was too high, so the hackers abandoned the plan and tried to find other ideas.
When I was looking for an alternative, I accidentally found the cylinder head of the right R975 engine on eBay and thought it was cool.
So, I decided to make a single cylinder motorcycle with the cylinder head.
Afterwards, Hackul searched for some spare parts needed to complete this engine, but almost all of the components of the cylinder underneath were made by himself in his small workshop.
Among the components manufactured by Hackle are the engine case, piston rod, crankshaft, and five other engine components worked using the workshop's equipment.
Other parts that I didn't make myself, I left to experienced colleagues, like camshafts.
The camshaft was made by Justin Lineweber, who had experience in making camshafts for various types of Harley engines.
Interestingly, Hekel liked to watch Flash Gordon cartoons as a child, so he made the bulb cover look like a lightning bolt.
The R975 engine cylinder on the right, piston size 127mm, stroke length 140mm, cylinder capacity 1772cm.
This single-cylinder engine with extreme exhaust emissions was combined with a fuel injection device using a 1957 Harley gearbox and twin-barrel wavebar carburetor.
After successfully assembling the engine, Hackl created a chopper-style frame according to his desired concept and a fuel tank designed to have a special hole in it so as not to hit the cylinder head bump.
Another interesting component of this bike was the front suspension, inspired by the Vincent Guard roller coaster, one of the best front suspension technologies of the 1940s and 1950s bikes, which provided excellent stability and minimal wobble during maximum braking.
Vincent's magic device has been preserved in its original form. Only the hackers have made it longer.
As for the phone's real-time mode, the hack took it from the phone's real-time mode of the phone's tricks. It was customized for use in the phone's talk mode.
The concept of the chopper is clean, as there are not many visible cables in the handlebar area, the clutch operation uses the foot pedal on the left side, and the gear shifter is operated manually like a four-wheel drive.
On the other hand, the slot and rear brake levers are in the same position as standard motorcycles.
As a result, the chopper produced by Alheckl has unique features, as the large single cylinder engine looks different from other chopper, and overall looks smooth and compact.
According to the rules, the only original motorcycle parts that can be recognized on this bike are Harley's four-legged gearbox.
The other parts fitted to this motorcycle were taken from parts of other vehicles, most of the other motorcycle parts were custom made.
Speaking of the 1700cc single cylinder engine, it certainly makes a thunder-like sound.
And for the sake of sound, the manufacturer named this bike 10Hz Thunder.
This is the engine sound.
The amazing thing about this large single-cylinder engine is that it has no chain starter.
Therefore, you can only use Kickstarter to start.
If the time of the fall is not right, the kickback may cause a significant impact on the rider's foot.
According to BikeBound.com, when asked about his power, weight, or performance figures, Mr. Hackl said his bike was lighter than Harley's Nackelhead.
And as for performance, Mr. Hackl has not done any more tests.
So he still doesn't know the exact strength of this engine.
When asked how it feels to ride this bike, Mr. Hackl said that this large single cylinder engine provides a terrifyingly wavy riding sensation, as the powerful vibration of the engine shakes everything the rider has.
So, riding this bike, from the way it starts to the earthquake-like vibrations you have to endure while riding, seems very dangerous.
Therefore, so far, the makers have only shown this bike at custom bike shows and automobile exhibitions.
