Hi I'm Shorty and welcome back to my YouTube channel.
In this video I'll be explaining how to do a fakie 180 on a ramp.
Knowing how to pump will help you with this trick,
especially if you're looking for more height in your jump.
Step 1. Fakie Stance
Good fakie stance is having your feet staggered, knees bent,
butt down, hips open, shoulders turned and looking in the direction you are going.
Having good fakie stance is important.
It will help to look in the direction you are going so your brain doesn't freak out.
It will also make it easier to jump 180 as your upper body is already turned.
Step 2. Jumping 180 on flat ground
You want to practice the body movement of jumping 180 on flat ground before taking it to the ramp.
Start in a good fakie stance, load your legs,
push off the ground and rotate your hips and feet 180 degrees.
When you jump you want to focus on keeping your body axis upright,
squeeze your core tight and engage your leg muscles so your feet land in the same staggered position.
You also want to practice looking back over your shoulder.
Step 3. Body Axis
Practice pumping fakie to get used to the curve of the ramp.
Take note of your body axis in relation to where you are on the ramp
as it should be perpendicular to the curve.
Also note the feeling as you reach the apex of your pump,
which is generally the point where you extend your legs.
It's at this point you will jump 180.
Step 4. Fakie 180 on a ramp
Now you have good stance and fakie pumping, time to add the 180 jump.
Travel fakie towards the transition.
Pump up the transition but instead of extending your legs,
keep low through the transition until you reach the apex of your momentum.
As you reach the apex you want to push off the ramp keeping your core tight.
You also want to engage your leg muscles as you rotate your hips 180 degrees.
Having the right axis and core and legs engaged will help you to land your fakie 180.
Also looking back over your shoulder once you have jumped
will help you keep your fakie position as it will keep your butt down and chest up.
Step 5. Want to go higher?
To jump higher all you need to do is lift your knees to your chest as you jump 180.
Lifting your knees to your chest will give the illusion of extra height.
It can also give you more time to rotate your feet 180 if you're having difficulty.
If you're looking for more air then you'll need to pump a little harder into the transition.
Make sure you squat and load your legs as you ride the transition before you jump 180
and lift your knees to your chest.
Having problems with nailing your fakie 180?
Then here are some common mistakes.
Not jumping with the right axis.
You won't be able to land all your wheels on the transition
and will most likely land on your toe stops.
Dropping your chest as you land your 180 jump.
This throws you off balance and again you will most likely land on your toe stops to catch yourself.
Not pushing off with both feet.
Not pushing off both feet with the same amount of force can throw you off balance.
It will be more like a split jump than having both legs doing the same thing at the same time.
Hopefully you were able to take a couple things away from this video
that will help you with your fakie 180.
My next tutorial will be a half cab so keep an eye out.
