Where Did She Go? Something fishy going on after Sunset Cliffs mermaid disappears

As quickly and strangely as she appeared, she was gone in a flash. The mysterious mermaid that's fascinated spectators at Sunset Cliffs is no longer on her perch atop a rock just offshore. News 8's Abby Alford is live in Sunset Cliffs with some theories about the disappearance and some words from the lady herself, we're told. Abby. Carlo and Marcella, the mermaid's disappearance is causing as much attention as she did when she was basking in the sun perched on top of Ross Rock. Her creators say that they want to remain anonymous and they say part of the secrecy is what makes this so magical. Locals paying tribute to the missing mermaid at Sunset Cliffs. The tale of the mysterious mermaid started in an Arizona garage. Her handlers say they drove her to San Diego. On Memorial Day, the family was seen hoisting the blue-haired mermaid over a ladder on Ross Rock. But Thursday morning, she was gone. I think she was just hungry and went to get lunch. Maybe she'll be back later tonight. One myth is the helicopter blew her away during a morning cliff rescue. There's rumblings the mermaid was removed by a so-called cliff crew who told her handler she created too much traffic. Kind of sad, kind of pathetic. But Lorenzo Beck says the installers told him that they'd be back for the majestic mermaid that attracted families and children, even photographers, photoshopping her in different locations. They just said they were gonna come back in two weeks and take it down. Well, we don't know exactly where the mermaid swam to. She did send a statement to News 8, in part, saying, To the humans of Ocean Beach and all of San Diego, I came to OB on the tides of the full moon in hopes of catching a glimpse of those who might still believe in the ancient legends, although I had hoped to stay through the summer, there are some who found my appearance disturbing, so I have had to depart early. The creators says that they were able to track down one of the guys they believe that took her down, saying that they believe that she still is intact and they've not trashed her and they're working to get her back. By the way, there have been other ornaments perched on top of Ross Rock in the past, including a crab, a toilet, and a peace sign.
