This is what we came out here for. Okay guys, we're getting the thick of it now. Oh my god.
If we're not careful, we're going to get caught out here after dark.
We just spent the night in Canyonlands on the White Rim Trail. Rode 11 hours yesterday,
got into camp after dark. A lot of difficulty in some very difficult sections and that took
us way longer than we expected to, but here we are waking up to a fantastic
day in the desert of Utah. What a great group of guys. We're out for another day of riding.
People are getting their coffee, swapping stories.
It's going to be another awesome day of riding. Glad you're with us.
Another day of adventure. Okay, in the words of the infamous Brock Gill,
our famous fearless leader, let's ride.
Okay guys, we're out for another day of adventure. If you caught the last video,
it was quite an adventure. Ended up riding portions of this kind of terrain and
worse around Canyon Rims. The darkness caught us for various reasons. Check out that video.
So we've had a night camping on the White Rim Trail, which is a special treat
and an awesome bunch of guys. Good fellowship, good riding, good adventure.
Okay, right now I'm bringing up the sweep. Everybody is up ahead of me and while,
excuse me while I go through that extreme drop, well maybe not extreme, but hey,
everything's relative. Anyway, I'm bringing up the rear and while so far today it has not
had as much gnar as yesterday, it's still presenting plenty of challenge.
Still getting sandy runs, a little bit of rocky climbs, and we've met more vehicles already in the
last 35 minutes than we did all day yesterday. Everybody's been courteous pulling over for us.
That's really nice and I always let them know I appreciate that when I go by. I think I'd rather
ride in sand than this. This is like, okay, let me realign your back in not a good way for you.
All right, all part of the package. This is the reward for the pain. What an awesome,
awesome place. Wow, look at that coloration over there. I don't know whether that's
flora from the rains they've been having or
kind of hard to tell being shook around on this bike for sure.
It looks really cool though. Kind of that olive green mixed in with the red.
stretch right here, let me tell you guys, don't underestimate the little CC bikes.
I'm on a WR250R with a go race suspension. It's been phenomenal for me.
And then there's the CRF300L that Keaton is riding, and he's a very good rider,
very good rider. But let me tell you, I think it's all stock. It is stock suspension and which
everybody knows, okay, that's really not for this kind of riding, but it's doing it.
Shows the skill of the rider, but also the capability of the bike. And it could just
get better if you wanted to put it, you know, re-spring it or do whatever else you want to
put into it. Power wise and everything, hey, I'm going where everybody else goes.
So the 501 and the 450L, the T700s, I'm not missing out on that weight.
Anyway, look at this climb coming up up here. Not a gnarly climb, but just awesome looking.
All right, looks like we're going up Schaefer Trail. Bye. Yep, starting up Schaefer Trail,
climbing right up into the top of the canyon, the very top. Canyonlands is a
multiple canyons within canyons. Pretty awesome. Dusty. That's what I get for riding so close
behind everybody, but sometimes you just got to take a slow back, get out of this dust a little
trying to get some footage. Holy mackerel, look up there at that. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness.
The places an adventure motorcycle can take you.
If you want to strap yourself to it, let it do its thing.
Ah, it's amazing. Hey honey, let me take you for a ride.
No, it won't be scary. You'll like it. Riding through the Moab desert like this, especially
doing the White Rim Trail, been a bucket list of mine for a long time. It's an epic journey.
I've been enjoying immensely, and as I ride along, something's going through my head I'd like to
discuss a little bit. And that's the question that's often brought up, maybe even more so
among adventure motorcycle riders. And that's the question, what is more important, the journey or
the destination? This group of men that I'm riding with, we're made up of kind of a spectrum of
the demographic of men. We've got a young man like Keaton. I think he's around 17 years old.
We've got Bradley in his 20s. We've got middle-aged men, married men, divorced men,
people with children. Yeah, it's a smattering of men, and it's got me thinking,
what is important in my life? What's important going forward? I'm the oldest among this group.
I'm thinking more about the destination lately. Wow sir, man, this is awesome.
Kicked it out into neutral, that wasn't good. You know, the whole thesis behind the statement
that we often hear, it's about the journey, not the destination.
The meaning behind that is that you're to savor every day of your life,
not think about what you want to achieve, just savor the day. And there's a lot of truth in that.
You know the old saying, nobody leads a charmed existence. And the longer that you live,
the more troubles you have seen. Sure, there's been good days, there's plenty of bad ones too.
So as you grow older, like I am, 74 years old, you start thinking more about life's destination.
There's more in the rearview mirror than there is out the windshield.
Feels good to be in the shade and get a little air moving through the jersey.
But man, worth every sweat drop. Let me tell you guys, get out here to
the Redland Canyon area of Moab. You'll not regret it. I am so grateful that I'm out here
riding with these guys. I get the opportunity to ride with people who are going to look,
you know, they've got your back. We're having a great fellowship time together.
You know, there's more to life than how big a cc you're riding, if I could put it that way.
You know, you know, women are always sticking together. They're supporting one another. Men,
not so much. We're like the stoic, I got it, I got it, I can handle it. Fact is,
we run into places where we aren't handling it very well. You fellowship with other people who
can share their experiences. And you know, I'll just tell you, we're a faith-based group.
And even if you are a man of faith, you come upon times where you wonder about your
path in life and whether your choices are what they should be. And you think you're the only one
that's maybe suffering or having a depression. You meet with other guys.
You can be open with, they can be open with you. You're going to come away with a lot more
adventure than just riding these trails. You're going to come away refreshed, rejuvenated,
and a better understanding of yourself and those around you. So I'm enjoying that aspect of this
Brock Hill Moto Mission. I really have him to thank for finding this kind of group of riders.
You know what? We're not perfect. We don't have to be perfect. Someone else was perfect for us.
And when we accept that fact, we can stop trying to be perfect. The perfect husband,
the perfect father, the perfect boss. It's going to, it's going to fall into place for you.
Three Step Hideaway. What another magical place. Just as we rode in, it let loose with rain.
It's great to be back here, ready to have dinner and relax with the guys.
Be having dinner here that Scott and Julie prepared in their outdoor kitchen
at their magical place in the desert. An awesome oasis for motorcyclists and outdoor adventurists,
particularly motorcycle adventuring.
What are we getting? This chicken is phenomenal. It's good. Got a little kick to it.
Well guys, that wraps up this video. Hope you've enjoyed it. Give it the thumbs up if you did.
Think about subscribing. I'll see you out there on the next one.
