New Tesla Model Y Juniper Rear Entertainment Display Upgrade! #tesla

Hey guys, Paul here. Welcome back to the channel. So in this past few years since I bought my first Tesla Model 3, I have tested so many rear entertainment display for both car Model 3 and Model Y, but none of them has the same design as this one. So this is something new. This display has really similar design to the new Model 3 Highland and of course a future Model Y Juniper or Model Y Refresh. So this display also has a software update and a built-in internet. So in today's video, I'll show you what comes in the box and then easy step-by-step installation and I'll test out all the functions and see how it looks in my Tesla Model Y. Now let's go. Let's see what comes in the box of this new rear entertainment display with Model 3 Highland style for your Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. And here what came in the box. Let's take a closer look of the display itself first. So as you can see the design and the style of the display is basically same as the one you see in the new Model 3 Highland or 2024 Tesla Model 3. And I assume I'm almost 100% sure that the new Model Y or the codename Model Y Juniper will use the same display which is this style. So you will have the bottom advent. I don't think this is adjustable. Looks like it's fixed advent for the rear passenger and two USB-C ports. Also the display size is eight inches and in the rear it has a built-in speaker as you can Also the OBD port connector and the built-in internet 4G connector here. And here is the capacity of the display. It has a built-in memory which is 64 gigs and this is the display size as you can see 1280 by 800. And it also came with of course this one so you can actually put in your SIM card here. The SIM card slot right there and you can connect to the display with this connector. And the next one is an OBD port connector. So this one doesn't have the seat control connector anymore. You should be able to control the front passenger seat through the OBD port connector. So the installation is a lot easier and faster to install now. And here is the power connector cap with plastic removal too. Alright now we saw everything that came in the box. Or you can click the link in the description down below. Now let's continue with the video. Okay first step we have to remove rear passenger air vent first. So there's no screw attached to this. There are clips inside. So basically just grip on this part right here and then pull it just like that gently. Don't pull it too hard because there is a cable here and the plug that we have to remove. So this is a power plug and cable that power your two USB-C ports in the back here. Then you just need to remove this plug out. There's a little clip here. Just pull it and then remove it. Okay next step we have to remove that panel on the bottom right there. You might need a little bit of help with the trim removal tools. I got these from amazon.com. Came in really handy with different projects. So I'll put the link in the description down below. Now let's remove that panel out. Okay let's use the trim removal tools. Plug it in and again these there are no screws here. Just basically clips and just use another one here. So when this pops open it's really easy to pop the whole thing out. And next step here before we unplug the OBD port. In the back here make sure you turn off the car first. So go to the main menu and then safety. Scroll all the way down to power off. Now we can safely remove the OBD port in the back of your center console. Then plug in the wire harness that came with the display. So plug in, connect the male plug to the female original blue one. And then connect the male from the car which is blue one to the female from the display. And that's it you are done. Now you just have to thread the wire up this part right here. So this will go through all the way up underneath the air vent. Let me show you. As you can see you can thread it from under there. It will go through underneath the air vent and just pull it down slowly all the way up. You'll connect this to the display. Next step here we just have to close this panel again. Now before you connect the display to the wire harness that we just connected to the car, make sure if you have a sim card for the display for the built-in internet make sure plug that in first. So just plug this in and then plug it all the way in. Make sure it's clicked just like so. And next step here make sure you use the cap that came with the display. Cap over the power connector that we unplug from the original air vent. Because if you don't cap this there will be no power for the USB-C port on the center console. So make sure you cap that first. Last but not least you just connect the wire harness that we connected to the car to the display. There you go. Now we just have to manage all the wiring. Make sure it doesn't block the clip that we are locking the display onto the car. Now we just have to place it in. Make sure press all the way in. That's it. We are done with the installation. Now let's see how it looks in my Tesla Model Y. As you can see the display looks really really good. Super clean. I love the design. It's really similar to the new Model 3 Highland and future of the new Model Y Refresh or the Model Y Juniper. Now let's go through all the basic functions real quick. So first thing first the climate control function. So you can control the climate control for the rear passenger from this display now. Before it's just regular air vent that you can control up and down and that's it. Now you can control by turning on or off climate control in the rear or off. There you go. So you don't have to bother the front passenger or driver to turn on or off rear passenger climate control now. You can also adjust the fan speed from the rear. You can see I crank up all the way to high and you can hear that the fan speed gets a lot higher now. Let's turn back so you can hear what I say. Now you can also control all of the rear heated seats. So you can control all three and three different levels too as you can see or you can close all of the rear heated seat. Not only that you can also control the front passenger seat. Let me show you. Control the front passenger seat just press and then this will show up. Now you can move the front passenger seat up and in front forward or backward and you press again on the display on the top part. This will show so you can control a reclining function of the front passenger seat. So this way if you have rear passenger sitting in the back and no passenger sitting in the front the rear passenger can adjust their leg rooms by themselves. So you don't have to you know park the car or tell the driver to adjust because driver will have to reach all the way. You will have to park the car no matter what. Now while the car is driving the rear passenger can adjust the leg room by adjusting the front passenger seat and it's really benefit like my family. My daughter will sit in the back here but no one is sitting in the front. She can now she can just adjust it by herself which is really really good. And one more thing that I would like to mention is the UI on this display. It has really really nice and clean UI and the UI even just the UI itself really similar to the UI of the new Model 3 Highland. As you can see really really nice. This is the main climate control UI. As you can see even the steering wheel and everything looks just like the one from Tesla on the Highland. And let's see this is the music so you can control a basic audio on the main car. So you can play, pause and skip, play and pause. You can also control the main volume of the car. So as I adjust here the main volume of the car will adjust too. So the rear passenger seat have enough control but not too much control to the audio of the car. And you can you know manually turn on turn off the display press again and then come back on and you can also lock the display. As I mentioned before even the UI on the audio control is really really nice and clean just like the one you see in the Model 3 Highland. And you can also adjust the temperature for the rear passenger. But note that if you adjust the temperature on the rear passenger it will connect to the front driver temperature too. Because Tesla made it to connect to the front driver temperature. So if you adjust here it affects the driver. If the driver just in the front or affects the rear no matter what. All right and so now we know all the basic control and let's go through the setting real quick. So a basic main setting would be this one right here. So press this one this icon and then go to the regular setting. Now you can adjust the time language, temperature unit, auto lock. You can adjust to however minutes you would like to change. And then I tried this button vibration it does not affect anything and the version information. So this is Android 13 and this is all the info about this system. Also you can reboot and then reset. Now go to the display you can adjust the brightness manually and you can change the style from bright or light day mode to black or dark mode. Press again it will reset itself and now we are on the dark mode. Really really cool looking UI. Really clean still and to do a deeper or more detailed setting you can go through Android setting. Now you can connect the display to the internet. So if you do not have a 4G sim card you can connect to Wi-Fi. Right now I'm connecting to home Wi-Fi. Of course on the go you want to connect to your phone a Wi-Fi hotspot while you're using the display. You can stream and play game while you're on the road trip. You can change the network so this is where you connect to your Wi-Fi hotspot and you can connect your Bluetooth devices like a game controller or a Bluetooth headphone. The display has the built-in speaker I'll show you later but if you want to connect to your devices just go to connected devices and if you already have something connected like the game controller that I already connected it will show on the list here but if you connect if you want to connect a new device just press pair the new device and then activate your device it will show up and then press and then just select to pair your device and these are all the settings that you can do on your Android setting and this is the storage of the display right now. It came with 64 gigabyte but now we have this much left as you can see let's go back home so you always have this control on the top here that you can always go back and then go home so you can download the apps any apps from Google Play Store whatever they offer you can download all of them except Disney Plus. Somehow any display that I have tested doesn't work with Disney Plus so I have downloaded a few apps here YouTube, YouTube TV, HBO Max also all the videos so you can plug into the media I believe it's the one on the right the display also has two USB-C port one on the left is to charge your device and one on the right is to plug into your drive so you can watch the show watch the movies that you can put into your drive or the music in your drive and one more special thing about this display that I have not seen on the other rear entertainment display is the over the air update now you can over the air update the display via you know Wi-Fi hotspot or your sim card or your home Wi-Fi when you park the car at home and you can just check it from here so you're gonna have to you know so no update right now so let's say the car has the main update or software update on the car that affects the display then the brand or the manufacturer will send out software update to fix the bugs and to make the display work again so now you can easily do that again video music let's test out the speaker in here so this is the built-in speaker from the display so we have the max volume on you can hear go to the video it should have the demo video for us here so this is the demo video which you can see really really nice and really clean and test out Netflix real quick so as I mentioned before I connected the display to Wi-Fi so now we have Netflix let's check out other banks again this is a built-in speaker of the display as you can see Netflix works really really well and the sound is pretty good but if you don't want to bother anyone in the car or the driver you can connect the display to bluetooth headphone like this one so let's activate the bluetooth headphone and then connect it power it's on so let's go to connected device and then pair new device then you will see the headphone should show on the list here you go so this is the headphone I just select and then pair as you can hear the now the bluetooth headphone is connected but for some reason the display only can connect to one bluetooth headphone at the time go back and then go back to Netflix there you go so we can continue so now the sound should come from here as you can hear so this is the sound from the bluetooth headphone you can also connect to the car speaker but I don't think it's a good idea for the rear passenger to watch through the car speaker anyway so you know the driver can drive or can listen to that music when they drive so we have to listen to their gaming in the back or the movie in the back but we'll have a few second delay a split second delay on the sound that you output to the car speaker it happens to every devices that I have tested even my phone so let's go back and test out the game since we already connected a game controller all right now let's test out the game and so I picked you know simple game that I can play with the controller so now I connected both controller and the headphone to the display so you can hear like really light sounds from the headphone which is right here and I can I have full control of the game with the controller which is really really cool so now the rear passenger can you know enjoy gaming or streaming or watching their show in the rear while you're on a road trip which is awesome since this is a touchscreen display you can still play touchscreen based game too all right so now we go through pretty much everything that this display can do all the functions it can also you know read the files or you know you want to show the pictures images from the thumb drive you can do that too one more thing I forgot to mention since the display kind of extended out a little bit to the bottom here I want to show you it does not affect the leg room for the middle passenger at all as you can see there's no way you will hit this part of the display while you're sitting so does not affect at all now as you can see in the video this display can do a lot of things and can help entertain your rear passenger while you're on a road trip or on a short trip and you can play the game connect to the controller and bluetooth headphone or even car speakers let me know in the comments down below what you think about this display the the real difference about this display is that it has a built-in internet so you don't have to connect to your wi-fi hotspot from your phone and also it has over the air update on the display and of course the design of the display that is really similar to a model 3 highland design and of course the future new model y refresh and I'll make sure to put the link of this new display in the description down below and special discount code for you too thank you so much for watching today's video and don't forget to click like if you like the video don't forget to subscribe for more awesome contents like this we'll see you on the next video peace
