It's the journey, not the destination as I was reminded again on this trip in Rondane National Park. Sindre Kolbjørnsgård is a Norwegian Explorer and simply an amazing person. His channel has a lot of valuable videos for outdoor enthusiasts, and for everyone interested in the Norwegian outdoors.

What's up guys my name is Joel Hypponen and I think I just had the best sleep I've ever had
in my tent. Just a few minutes shy of 10 hours so I'm already very excited about that. I have
company here my friend Sindre Kolbjörnsgaard and today is a big day for me because I have
background only in very casual gym climbing but today Sindre is gonna bring me along for
some outdoor climbing with harnesses and the proper equipment. I have no idea what I'm getting
myself into but what I know is that I'm excited to do it and I'm happy to bring you along.
I also just noticed that it's super easy to apparently get my
lens totally fogged up. I personally could not care less. What I care about is
getting some food in my system, getting some coffee and getting up into the mountains. Guys
check this out. That's where we're headed. You can't completely see but it's pretty nice the ridge line.
Anyways I need that coffee right now. This is a new type of coffee making for me. Some
brewing system. Now I just let it cook in the bag. The ground coffee is already there.
So like I said we're going climbing today. I have personally never done outdoor climbing so I'm very
well to be honest a little nervous but mostly excited for that and also Sindre here is much
more experienced with this whole area so are we going like big wall free soloing or what's
going to happen today? The plan is to climb like a ridge from a place called Vestesmen to Storesmen
and that's located in Rondane which is one of the oldest national parks in Norway.
So the plan is to just climb the ridge under good condition and if you are kind of used to heights
you could normally walk it without any climbing gear but we are gonna just try to find that cool
route up and so you could try climbing and do the best of it.
We have now been hiking roughly seven kilometers. We're gonna find our camp spot for tonight.
It's looking really promising here so we're dropping off our bags and then getting ready
for the climb which I'm now getting more and more excited for instead of feeling nervous
but we will see. It should be fun either way. I hope this is not going to be my last video
but now it's time to scout camp spot for tonight. 650 meters then we're going to take a left
up to the first top and then all the way to Vestesmen. We just have to see.
The weather just got really interesting so we are basically walking in a cloud more or less.
The good thing is it's completely dry still so it's not bothering us too much. Some more
kilometers to go then we should be hitting the ridge line which is the mission of the day and
see how the climbing goes and apparently we have cell service here. Oh it's my wife I gotta stop.
Oh hey babe! So that was my wife and lessons I have learned along the way. When your wife calls
you pick up. If they're home alone and stressed about life that's the right thing to do.
Anyways we are headed upwards. It's been super nice walking up here. Rondane might be my
new favorite area in Norway. It's pretty close to home, relatively easy access so
I will definitely be coming here again hopefully soon. Let me know down in the
comments if you would like to see some winter camping here. I can see there's
some potential for that and pretty excited to try new things and make new types of videos so
let me know if that's interesting. Heading this way into the unknown. What do you think Sinde are
we still fine? I think we're still fine. I'm starting a track from this point just if the
weather gets worse we could always get back to this point so that's for like safety. Wouldn't
be shocking if we got a little lost but worse things can happen as long as we make it back
safe. It will be fine. Yeah I'm pretty comfortable with getting back safe. So let's get moving.
We are here on top of Vestlismell and we definitely got a little bit of weather here.
As you can see we cannot see really anything. Safety first. We're trying to get down alive
but in the meantime enjoy the ride. Are we ready? I'm ready.
Now we have all the gear on getting ready for the climb. To be honest I would be lying if I
said I wasn't nervous at all. That's our mission. Visibility is still next to nothing but
it will be fun. Pretty confident about that.
So we made it to the top. We are at 2000 meters. It's getting really dark.
Sindre surprised me with a coke on the summit push. Wonderful experience. Thank you so much
Sindre for taking me along for the journey. I think this was more of a scramble slash climbing trip
but I'm definitely looking forward to the next time. So before it gets completely dark I will
wrap this up and I hope you go spend some time outdoors and I will see you in the next video.
Peace. We are still in the mountain. Visibility is absolutely nothing.
It's pretty foggy. We hope that we find our base camp for the night.
