So a bunch of you have been blowing up my comment section about landing jobs at places like Pinterest,
Yelp, American Express, Delta Airlines. The list goes on and I love it. I love it. I love it. But
then there are a few of you that have said to me, Jazzy, I haven't heard anything from the
recruiters. Like what's going on? What is it about me that is making these recruiters like ghost me?
So let's talk about the top reasons why you are being ghosted by these recruiters. Now,
let's just hop right in. The first reason is going to be you're not using the right hot words. Now,
we talked about hot words. We know that these are essentially buzzwords that these recruiters will
type into the ATS system to ultimately search for candidates. Now, I don't care how much experience
you have. I don't care how great you are at doing your job. All these sorts of things. People are
like, I'm so qualified and I never get callbacks. And I'm like, well, are you using my templates?
Because a lot of the times people will have what they think is a great resume, but it's not really
tailored for that job and it doesn't hold the right keywords. And so your resume is essentially
falling through the digital cracks. And that's why recruiters are not contacting you. Now,
the second reason that you're being ghosted by recruiters is that you are using an unprofessional
email address. Now, I know it sounds very petty and silly that your email address could mean
the difference in between you getting a job and not getting a job, but trust me,
it matters. Your email address is literally going to be the first impression that a recruiter has
about you. So you don't want to be hot, sexy mama 2000 and, you know, think that that's going to be
appropriate to a recruiter because no matter how true that is, I do believe that many of you are
hot, sexy mamas and hot, sexy daddies as well yet want to make sure you're keeping it professional.
So first name dot last name 2000 at whatever, whatever.com. Keep it simple. Keep it professional.
Okay. Now the next reason that you may not be getting those callbacks is your social media.
A lot of you don't realize that before a recruiter even calls you, they've literally
already Googled your name. When I worked in HR, it was very common for me to get a resume that would
come across my desk and I'm like, okay, they look good on paper, but let me just see what they're up
to. Because the last thing you want to do is bring in a candidate that might be very controversial,
that might say things that could cost the company money, that could cost the company,
its reputation, somebody that could be sharing insider secrets. So you want to understand and
have a feel for that person's personality offline or, you know, like on social media and offline
when it comes to work, because it says a lot about how they will conduct themselves when they are in
a professional setting. So does this person get into these controversial arguments online? Are
they bullying other people online? Are they posting inappropriate photos? Could this be someone that
could leak confidential data? Those are the sorts of things that they're ultimately searching for
when they do these Google searches. And again, I had to do these things. It was part of my job. So
if you're going to post crazy stuff on social media, make sure that that email address and that
phone number that's connected to your social media accounts isn't actually what's listed on your
resume. Okay? Because people can reverse search using your phone number, your email, even photos
like your profile pictures can be reverse searched and can like ultimately cost you the job if
recruiters are seeing things on your social media that just aren't appropriate. So now those are going
to be pretty much the most basic things that you can control that you can fix right away. Now some
of the other reasons that you may not be hearing back from a recruiter could be because you didn't
pass the assessment. Now a lot of you are like Jazzy, I am not a good test taker, but that doesn't
mean that I wouldn't do their job or that I can't live up to the expectations that the role requires.
I know that and a lot of other people know that, but an assessment is a way for them to ultimately
filter out certain candidates and for them to speed up the hiring process. So sometimes they're
just, they're just inevitable. Now, what I do like to include in my resume kits is I will sometimes
give you like little interview tips, things that you can kind of look out for, but just make sure
that if you apply for a job, you want to make sure you research whether or not that job has an
assessment and you want to do all the research you can on that assessment before you take it,
because some of them don't let you retake an assessment. And it's like, if you fail it, you
have to wait six months before you can take it again. And then others have a timed assessment,
and I know sometimes that can cause anxiety. So you want to make sure you do all the research you
can, you know, before you take an assessment. Now, another thing that may cause you to be
ghosted by a recruiter is sometimes these positions are just filled internally and the recruiter
doesn't like send an update to the candidate or they haven't gotten around to it. And it's
nothing that you did or didn't do that caused that role to get filled. Sometimes they have to post a
just as protocol. So it's very common for jobs to be posted and then they end up being internally
filled by someone that works for the company. So don't take it personal. Don't ever put all your
eggs in one basket and just go like, hey, this is my dream job. This is the one job I'm banking on
like you should be treating the job scene as like dating like you would never just date one person,
you want to date a couple of people to see what's a good fit for you. And if you're a good fit for
that person. So you know, job searching is the same concept. Other reasons that you may not have
heard from a recruiter, it could be anything from budget restraints to hiring freezes. Hiring
freezes can happen when there's a reorg happening in the company, let's say a manager leaves and
now they've got to fill that manager's position before they can hire the individual contributors
that would report up to the manager. So sometimes again, it's not that you did anything wrong. It's
not because people don't like you, there may be internal things happening at the organization. And
the last thing some of these recruiters want to do is prematurely say we feel this position or
the position is no longer available. Sometimes they like to keep that door open so that the two
months that it takes to you know, reorg or to get budget, they've already got like a pipeline of
candidates that can ultimately come into that role. So it's been times where I filled out an
application, I heard back a week later, and the entire interview process was only like two weeks.
And then there's been other times where I would apply for a job and literally would not hear back
for six months. And like within that six month time period, I've gotten all these other job offers and
stuff. And I even forgot that I like applied for the job in the first place. And I'm like, okay,
remind me what company are you from? And I'm like, yeah, so just understand that these are some of
the reasons why you make it ghosted. Don't let it get you down. Remember, everything is a stepping
stone. So the more you get into the habit of tailoring your resume, and you know, if you're
using my resume subscription, the resumes are already tailored for every job that I post anyway.
But when you get into that habit and that rhythm and knowing, you know, kind of like how to take
these assessments and what they're looking for, ultimately, if you increase your chances of getting
hired, and then you become a success story, like all the other people that have landed these awesome
jobs. So I do have a part two for this video in regards to like knowing whether or not you got
the job and you know, some do's and don'ts after and before the interview. So make sure you tune
in to part two of this video. But until then, I will see you all later. Bye.
