Bunkers UNDER Pavements In Luton UK

In today's video we are climbing down 80 foot ladders into Luton's deepest air raid shelters. Oh there's like a vertebra there as well. Look at Sam just touching them. Guys we can hear footsteps coming down from it. Mate. It's straight up saying acid level. So it's here? Yeah. Multiple bunkers were built deep beneath the streets of Luton during the second world war. These tunnels could hold 8,100 people in total. We will be descending down manholes to discover what's left hidden under the surface. The former entrances have been sealed and paved over for the modern street above. Even dark stairways to nothing throughout. There's evidence of gas lights, wooden chairs and even some old posters on the walls. It's strange to think how many people are walking above these huge covens every day without even knowing what's beneath them. Let's take a look inside. Here we go guys we are deep underground right now. Look at these then, I wonder what these were for. Have a little sit down. Do you reckon these might have been for beds or something like that? Because this was used as an air raid shelter. I don't know, would the beds really be this big? I don't know man. I think we might have been right earlier though bro. Oh yeah. Yeah. At the other end they've got filters on them and they're dark red filters. Oh yeah. So you put a white bulb in it but it's a red filter to kind of darken it down. Especially on the stairs because obviously they're on the ground level being noticed. Yeah that's right. Yeah that's right man. Imagine two stairs here as well isn't it. Are your feet wet now? Sucked. Yeah. It's supposed to be a little sort of don't come any further thing. Strange thing to build. Well they've tried to stop it from climbing anymore. Same again. Same again is it? Yeah. Yeah there was several ladders up. You go around the corner there it dries off pretty quickly. By that point you're in the deepest bit I think anyway. Is it a mirror image to this? It is a mirror image really yeah. The only thing I can see that's different is this the filters on the light bulbs. I'll probably leave it. All you've got to do right is just get a mirror and it's holding next to your screen. And then watch the image in that mirror and just imagine that you're on the other part. It's a cheap way of uh extending your bunker explorers. I think these chairs are the same. Stone chairs. Do you think they're original or? Well some are stone and some have bits of wood between them but I don't know. They all look like they've got bits of wood in between. Some have and they've lasted longer. Although mind you if you sat on them they might just go through because. Yeah Jess and Genevieve were climbing on them to avoid the water. And then Genevieve went straight through one.
