Today on Blessed Burgers, by request, I'm going to be cooking up the new, and I think it's a limited
time, Bacon Cheese Melt from Burger King. Let's get going. I received a request not too long ago
to recreate one of the new, and I think it might be a limited time, Cheese Melt Burgers from Burger
King. And speaking of limited time, Burger Kings are few and far between in my area, so literally
they're kind of vanishing. I don't know how much longer they're going to be around, at least around
here. So you got to strike while the iron's hot. So I went there a few days ago, and I got the
Bacon Cheese Melt. I thought it was a pretty good burger, and I thought I'd recreate it for you guys.
We're going to kick it off with the sauce right now. I have your one tablespoon plus one teaspoon
mayo, and to this I'm going to add two teaspoons ketchup, using the small end of my two-ended
spatula. There's a story behind that. One teaspoon yellow prepared mustard,
one teaspoon dill pickle relish, and one quarter teaspoon of onion powder.
And make sure you're using onion powder, not onion salt. Get that in here.
So what I do, and what I did for this burger, was as I was at the drive-thru window, I asked
the young lady who was giving me my food if she could spare a little, you know, cup of
of the sauce. She didn't ask why or anything, but she poured some in like a little, one of the little,
like, I guess it's like a sundae cup that they put sundaes in or something, you know, ice cream.
And that's the way you want to do it, rather than trying to figure it out while it's on a burger,
because sauces change on the burger. You're able to take your time in your house, look at things,
smell things, do a lot of tasting. So there we are. This is probably enough sauce for one,
maybe two burgers. So multiply it if you're, you know, going to make more. But this is,
literally, I did this, you know, finished this last night, I guess, and I just really didn't
feel like doubling it. But double it, triple it, whatever you want. It's a good, just a good,
basic sauce. All right, so we are going to be cooking this on the Lone Star Grills
grill smoker, and I've got it revved up and ready to go right now. So let's get to cooking.
And here is the setup I have today. I have the laser-cut stainless steel grates here. I'm going
to cook the burger patties on this. And then I have, this is a carbon steel plancha griddle that
LSG sells. Great, great accessory right here. Just going to get a little nonstick down.
Just going to get some chopped onion down. They're just going for a real simple fried
onion. They're not, you know, caramelizing them or anything, just fried onions. Two pretty small
pieces of bacon, and these are basically one small piece cut in half. Keep them flat. Two patties of
80-20 ground chuck. Burger King's using quarter pound patties. I went just a little bigger. These
are five ounces, just to kind of fit my buns better. Just with a little salt.
So the thing about these melts is the buns they're using is basically like the club level
on a Big Mac, that center level of bun on a Big Mac. So what I do, and this is awesome,
I started doing this the last time I did a burger that had a club level, is I'll find it, you know,
the nice, the thicker heels of the burger buns, put them in plastic Ziploc bags, freeze them,
and then overnight, next day, the back slices off just so easily, and they thaw out very quickly.
Then with the top buns, if you want, you don't have to waste them. You can make those like kind
of cartoon style wimpy burgers where you got a top bun on the top and the bottom. So anyway,
just try that. It's a great idea. So get these buns down to toast.
Nice. Some cheese on here. You don't put a really heavy melt on these.
All right, so on this bottom bun, we're going to put down some of that spread.
Get those patties down. Those two strips of bacon, those grilled onions, some more of that spread
on the top bun. And yeah, this spreads literally enough for one burger. So if you're going to
multiply it, multiply it by how many burgers you plan on making if you're going to do this.
And crown. There we are. The bacon cheese melt from Burger King looks pretty much,
well, it looks a lot better than the one I got the other day. I mean, it was very smashed,
but it was still good. Let's give this a try. We are a good looking burger.
Nice concept. It kind of has a little bit of a patty melt kind of a feeling when you're eating
it, but not exactly. It's a hybrid, hybrid between a patty melt and a regular burger.
It's good though. Again, sauce is just a very basic, simple sauce.
It's a little bit more mayo forward than like a Thousand Island dressing would be.
Really, really good. I really like the crunch you're getting, especially from the top bun. You
sitting there getting all heated up and steamed up, but the top bun really retains that,
that crispiness, you know, that kind of Maillard. So there where it's kind of, again,
playing off like it is a, is a patty melt when it's really not. Bacon always makes the burger good.
That's good. Definitely. You know, those grilled onions are needed in this,
but it's a very well balanced burger. Not a whole lot of veg in this, but
there's bacon. That's part of the vegetable category, right?
It's good. And it's nice to see a fast food chain, you know, like Burger King doing something like
this rather than, you know, a lot of the rubber stamped burgers that come out.
Yeah. Again, this was a suggestion. Thanks for that. And check them out. Try making it yourself.
I mean, the one I had the other day at Burger King, from Burger King, it was good. This is way
better. You know, I like Burger King because they are grilling their burgers, you know, in that flame
broiler and you get that nice, the char flavor. Here you get some of that char flavor, but you're
also getting, you know, that smoke flavor, which you're not getting at Burger King. But
all in all, I think this is a success. Thanks for stopping by. If you're not subscribed,
