Hi everyone, so we're in Whistler right now and it's our anniversary weekend and that's
why we're here.
If you've seen our videos before, you'll know that we often come back here.
Yeah, we come back for our anniversary.
So we just had a great dinner at the Table 19 restaurant and we're staying at the Riverside
RV Park, RV Resort and yeah, we're having a great weekend.
But in this video, we just wanted to talk about some of our...
We just got ambushed by a bunch of cyclists.
So in this video, we're just going to talk about some of our favorite RV accessories.
We got some more new ones.
We did do a video previously of our favorite RV accessories and this is number two.
So what we're going to cover in this video today are very small but really essential
items that we use almost on a daily basis while we're traveling in our RV, in our camper
van here.
If you are more interested in our camping coverage from Whistler here at the Riverside
RV Park, then you can jump forward and we will show you what we've done and a little
bit of our camping.
So let's get started on our favorite accessories.
So the first one that is really one of my favorite things to have in the van is a very
solid wooden tray.
It's a little bit bulky to carry around but actually the wooden tray is great because
it's solid.
So if you want to put it anywhere where you don't have a counter or a table, and in our
case, we don't actually have a dining area and we hardly ever put our tables up in the
van.
So we need some kind of solid surface to place things like cups and glasses and things that
have drinks in it, sometimes a plate of dinner.
And our wooden tray just has served its purpose really well.
It actually is so solid that you could put it on a soft surface like a bed or a sofa
and you don't have to worry about spillage.
And also it's got nice thick wooden sides and if there is spillage, because that happens,
accidents happen, then it will keep the spillage inside the tray so you don't have to worry
about it spilling outside, which is nice.
The second item that we find an essential is the over-the-door paper towel holder.
Now we've been trying so hard to find a solution to where we can put our paper towel and we've
tried all sorts of things, metal ones, we've tried plastic ones, and we've tried sticking
it with Velcro, we've tried sticking it with command strips, and nothing seemed to really
work.
So just recently Gordon managed to find one.
And I think he saw it on somebody's Facebook page.
It's a nice metallic one and you don't have to drill any holes in your RV in order to
use it.
And we actually put it right on the bathroom door and it works really well for us.
So yeah, we really like that.
And it's cheap, so it's great.
It was a good solution for us.
It took us a long time to figure that one out.
One of the other things that we use, not just in the camper van but also at home, it's like
a microfan and I don't remember the name of it but I'll put it down.
You can plug it into a USB outlet.
Our road trek has a lot of USB outlets all over the van so it's very handy.
There's one in the front, there's one in the kitchen area, and there's also some in the
back.
We can put it anywhere when it's a little bit warm and we just need a little bit of
a breeze going through the van.
And then a couple of things that I find really useful.
Little soft-sided containers and some of them have different pockets.
And you can buy this from any kind of dollar store or houseware store.
And we really love them because small items that we actually need to keep track of all
the time.
For instance, car keys, wallet, cell phone, cameras.
We don't really want to have to put them away and then every time we need it just to look
for it and pull it out.
So we just like to have it handy.
So if you have a little soft-sided container, you can just throw it in there and put it
aside on the bed or whatever.
And it's just there for you and it's really handy.
And then the other thing that we have to pull out every time we travel, of course, we have
to monitor the temperature in our van and outside.
Especially when you have a pet and you want to make sure that they're not overheating
or getting too cold if you're going to leave them in your RV.
It's obviously a thermometer that has both the exterior and the interior temperature.
And we use it all the time.
We're constantly looking at it to make sure that the interior of the van is comfortable
and how hot it is outside.
So we find that a real essential as well.
So we use it all the time.
And finally, we actually have a new purchase, which is kind of like a bathroom shelf accessory
holder.
We do have some shelving in the bathroom, but we still felt like we need a little bit
more space to put our toothbrushes and toothpaste and soap and extra toilet paper and things
like that.
We did actually buy one that you can stick.
We stuck it actually above the toilet in the bathroom.
And it's been working well.
And it's really strong.
And it hasn't failed us yet.
So we're really happy with the little extra shelving that we have in the bathroom.
So that's another item that we really like.
For all the accessories that I mentioned, they will be listed down below in the description.
And I'll put some links in, in case you're actually interested in purchasing any of them.
But of course, we don't get any commission or anything like that on them.
We just really find those accessories really useful for our van travels.
And we just wanted to share them with you.
So now we'll just show you some footage of our trip to Whistler, our anniversary weekend
at Riverside RV Resort.
Hello, Mr. Finch.
Hello.
He says hello.
This is the view from our side door.
Not too bad, actually.
Where is he, Finch?
Where is he?
He's awfully close.
Good morning, everyone.
Actually slept in this morning.
Got up about 7 o'clock.
Me and Mickey and I both went to bed quite early last night.
So I missed all the, I missed the sunrise.
I missed the beautiful orange mountains as the sun first came over.
Missed the quiet sounds on Green Lake where I'm at right now.
You can probably hear a little bit of traffic behind me.
It's not too bad.
Beautiful out here.
It's maybe like a 20-minute walk, a 15-minute walk if that, actually, from where we're camped.
So it's really nice.
We really like this area.
Cold last night.
Got down to, I think, 9 degrees.
So that's fairly chilly, but we were easily warm enough in the van.
Mickey and I both slept well.
Finch, not so much.
He's always up checking outside, looking out the windows, seeing what's up.
He'll sleep probably during most of the day.
So we're not doing too much this trip.
As you know if you've watched some of our videos,
we've been to Whistler many times,
so we're not doing too many touristy things this time.
We'll probably just do a short hike around Lost Lake area.
Maybe come out for another paddle.
Maybe get some exercise in the forest just by a bit of running,
doing some calisthenics, things like that that we enjoy when we're up here.
Still, very beautiful place.
Okay, this is me against Fitzsimmons Creek.
And I'm getting nowhere.
Round two.
I don't think I've gotten any faster or stronger as I've gotten older.
Or maybe the creek's just faster.
I'm not going anywhere.
This is quite funny and I don't know if you'll be able to hear it,
but I'm trying to dry the boat out so the sun's heating it up
and it's getting bigger so it's gradually climbing up.
Just a little bit at a time. It's amazing.
You really don't want to leave a pack raft sitting out in the sun unless it's in some water.
Or if I have to, I usually let a little bit of the air out
and then just pump it up later as needed with the manual valve.
So we were just sitting here relaxing this afternoon.
We're just waiting for our Thai food.
We ordered it from, actually there's a new Thai food restaurant here
at the Riverside RV Resort.
So we're going to try it out tonight.
Gordon's just relaxing, reading his iPad.
We have Wi-Fi.
So this morning I actually went for a nice run.
I ran over to the village north and walked around,
got some water and then ran back again.
So that was a nice run. It was a little warm,
but it was around 11 o'clock so it was just starting to heat up a bit.
That's the one thing we really love about Whistler.
There are trails everywhere for walking, biking and running.
All right, picked up the Thai food.
Busy place. Small little restaurant, but really, really busy.
Mostly takeout, I think.
Okay, here's our Thai food. What did you get?
I have Chicken Pad Thai.
Nice.
And I have chopsticks that we always carry in the van.
Partly for eating and partly for cleaning out the drains
in the front under the windshield.
They work really well.
Okay, and I've got vegan curry here.
It looks really spicy.
It's got eggplant and potato and carrot.
Very hearty side of rice and vegetarian spring rolls.
For wine, Capels Gate Dry Riesling.
Very nice.
And very nice views.
Yeah, it's a beautiful day. Not too hot.
Very good.
See you, Mr. Finch.
Oh, you look all sleepy this morning.
Good morning, everyone.
I'm out just to do some exercise this morning.
About a 10-15 minute walk from where we're camped
at Riverside Campground just up in the forest by Lost Lake.
I'm actually on the course for the Whistler Disc Golf.
No one here quite this early in the morning.
Normally I just work out in the forest,
but I thought I'd just train today here.
It's got a nice sort of flat platform behind me.
Makes it easier.
And, yeah, it's a nice place to work out.
Sun's just coming up. Looks really nice.
As you know, Mickey and I do a fair amount of exercise
when we're out camping.
We do some hiking, some paddling.
Mickey went for a run yesterday.
So we do things that'll keep us fit.
But I still like to work in a little bit of strength training.
Now you can do that with just bodyweight exercises,
doing some push-ups, some one-legged leg work,
for example, things like that.
But I also bring along with me, and it's in my backpack,
a suspension trainer, which you've seen
if you've watched our channel for a while,
you'll see me use it occasionally while out camping,
and also a couple of resistance bands,
which just help with some of the work.
This is a suspension trainer I use.
It's actually made of climbing rope.
It's a cord rope with, of course, it's handles.
And then you can adjust the length
by simply adjusting the cord here.
So it's a Prusik cord, so it slides up and down.
In terms of resistance bands,
this is one of the two I brought with me.
The other I left in the van.
So this is a heavy one.
I actually have four.
One's slightly wider.
This one, one I think which is called medium,
which is slightly narrower,
and then a really light one.
But I typically only bring two.
And if I want, I just double up the medium
and the heavy if I want a little bit more weight.
And this is just a sling with a carabiner on it,
and I can use that to put around some of the trees
or other hookups
to either use with the resistance band
or with the suspension trainer
if I need just a little bit more length.
So between the resistance bands
and the suspension trainer,
you're actually able to get in a pretty decent workout.
And then we'll do a little cardio.
So in this case, maybe a 15 minute walk to get here,
15 minute back.
There's a little hillside over there,
maybe do a little bit of hill sprints.
So I can get a decent workout in,
maybe do 30 to 45 minutes
before it gets too busy here in Whistler.
Although I can see someone down on one of the trails over there.
Gordon's shirt.
He was worried you were cold.
Mr. Furball.
Look what Vince did to the sea cushion.
That's a lot of fur.
