[Music]
no morning guys welcome back to my
allotment Diaries my name's Emma these
are the allotment Diaries going to be
doing lots of a loty things today but I
thought I'd just update you quickly on
the tap situation it is still broken
so I don't really know what else to say
about this bleeding tap put that on no
it's not going to work it's still broken
I've contacted about four different
people I've tried phoning I've left an
answer phone message um it doesn't seem
like the allotment is working in January
like no one seems to be
here it is quite frustrating so I have
done a little bit of a quick fix on it
the other day it does seem
stemmed the flow of water a little bit I
would urge all plumbers out there to
look away now um but this is just some
like plumbers tape and then that blue
thing that blue water pipe I cut off as
you can see is still leaking quite
significantly wasting a lot of water so
that's a little bit annoying I'm
wondering now if maybe I should just
order a new tap and just try and replace
the tap myself because it is a bit
ridiculous somebody said to look for the
Stop tap like the stop valve to turn all
the water turn the site off normally the
water in the allotment site is turned
off over winter to stop um Taps from
freezing and splitting and for this for
this very reason but for some reason
it's not been turned off uh yeah so I
would just have to keep you updated on
um on the tap situation what's going on
really but what can I do I might have to
just order a new tap
myself we'll see morning einin
hello I can't work out if this is a fox
or a cat I think it's a cat I've never
seen this cat before I've never seen
this cat before oh wow you're very
beautiful cat you
coming
no that's okay sort of wants to uh come
closer but he's a bit scared
keeps sort stopping and sitting and sort
staring at me I think he's just getting
used to me how funny is that it's like
it's a new year new allotment Diaries
and I'm adding new characters to the to
the Vlogs without even meaning to it's
like these are all paid actors just
turning
up so weird what you think of that
Einstein Einstein's been sitting up in
the tree while he's been around though
we don't know this new cat we don't
trust it do we do you want some food
let's feed Einstein
I just touch that poo oh Einstein I just
touched poo for you hope you appreciate
these M worms now even more yeah just
touched the mo for
[Music]
you I've actually signed up for the RSP
EBS the Royal Society prevention Birds
preventing Birds the Royal Society
preventing birds that doesn't sound
right the Royal Society protecting Birds
something like that the rspb's and bird
watch which is coming up next week and
you're um I don't know if you're too
late now actually let me check the date
when this is going up no you're not too
late to sign up so it's um if you sign
up now online it's completely free just
go to the rspb's website it's the um the
bird watch that they do between the 24th
and the 2 7th I think and you get a pack
with all the different birds in it and
stuff and you have to put your address
in and then you mark down how many birds
you see over the weekend and um it just
goes into a big data thing of just
seeing where the birds are what birds
are around and stuff but I thought it
sounded really fun I am a little bit
worried that all I'm going to see are
Robbins and parakeets but I'm going to
do my best to see as many birds as I can
and to document them all down which is
very very exciting so if you like birds
if you like if you hate birds that's
very unexciting you know in every way
possible um but if you do like birds
that might be quite fun so today before
I get on with um some actual allotment
work um I just wanted to say I um told
you a few Vlogs ago I think three Vlogs
ago last week that I am releasing an
allotment handbook on Amazon um this is
what the cover is going to look like
Emma's allotment handbook there we go um
now got snazzy thing on the back you
won't have this strip across cuz it's
for resale I've gone through the book
I've double checked everything I can I
can't promise there won't be one or two
spelling mistakes in there um all the
images in here are handdrawn by me so
there's basically no copyright in here
that's what I was worried about getting
sued or something but yeah they're all
by me all the drawings by me in here
this will be up on the 20th of January
the 20th of January when the hell is the
20th of January oh my gosh it's today is
that today it's up today it's up today
it's up you can go and buy it now it's
up now on Amazon to purchase uh so you
can go and buy my lot handbook now and
what's really exciting is after my last
video somebody actually left me a little
review about my book before they'd even
seen it or anything and I will read it
out to you now I've no doubt your book
will flop the market is a wash with
gardening books and you should have
accepted professional advice before
proceeding with your self-indulgent
Escapade happy gardening so thank you so
much
Trevor I think it was for your Charming
review I think I'm going to use it
actually to uh to market the book it's
going to be called my self-indulgent
Escapade a self-indulgent Escapade by
wannabe a lotman writer um it is an
absolute guarantee flop the uh the
market is a wash with gardening books
but if you fancy one more and you think
oh I quite like the sport this channel
I've been making videos for 5 years um
I've got all my knowledge in here it's
quite a beautiful book no lisher would
publish it if you think you know what
stuff you Trevor stuff you Trevor um and
you just want to stick it to him and say
you know what I'm going to prove you
wrong go and buy my book that's a good
reason to buy it isn't it so thank you
Trevor thank you Trevor you're wonderful
free marketing
advice okay I don't know what to say
anymore these days the comments are
mental right now in the last video I was
talking about getting overwhelmed with
um certain areas of the plot So today
we're going to work on the back of the
plot and I'm going to clear it and
that's what we're going to get on with
now let's do
[Music]
it a
signicant just where it was meting
yeah
cling
night CL
just in
the nobody is
losing faces Merchant
change but your face remain the same
shs will be here by
D when we're finally sober they'll be
[Music]
gone the trees will Bloom the night will
melt
always right guys spin oh my gosh where
did he come from
I if you saw that Crow then he's
absolutely massive oh I'll be a to add
him to my little bird watching thing oh
it's so muddy today but it's definitely
not that cold which is making this a
little bit easier marginally easier for
me um I am half an hour in we're
clearing it I think what I'm going to do
is do this properly dig it out and put a
fence up as a proper barrier I'm not
sure what kind of fence I actually think
maybe a normal fence maybe I should buy
a normal fence and I don't know how to
put fence up so maybe I'll just use
palettes I have a thing think about it
really but I think what I need to do is
dig it all out properly put border up
proper border here yeah I think that'd
be a good idea so we are getting through
it I'm feeling better I'm feeling better
doing this I think sometimes when you're
worried about something taking action
and doing something even if it's just a
small thing towards solving it actually
makes you feel times better and that's
just what's happening to me right now so
I'm getting through it I'm going to do a
little bit more work I think and
then I'm going to do something else
[Music]
just checking on the onions I planted
these just before Christmas I think
maybe it was November they went in the
ground the onion sets um of them have
moved as well like this one have moved
he looks like he's rotting a little bit
he is rotting he might come back though
we never know a lot of them are doing
quite well they've all germinated now
they've all got green no I'm lying you
haven't what's wrong with you then you
just haven't grown yeah he's not grown
at all he might have
rotted he feels like he's rooted he's
not sprouted anything at all oh gosh
hang on a
second he sprouted some Roots but he's
got a lot of white he's got a lot of
white stuff in the uh in the soil around
him I'm really wondering if that's white
rot in fact I'm not even going to take
the chance you're gone see you I'm not
having that yeah look look at the soil
here look how white it is in the soil
that doesn't look right to me yeah I've
just done a quick Google on that white
stuff around the soil around your onions
it says white stuff in the soil around
onions could be a sign of onion white
rot a fungal disease that causes a white
fluffy growth on the base of the
bulb um causes the soil born fungus stor
matina sepor cool wet Summers or warm
warm soil temperatures above 10° I think
what it is is that this soil has been
too warm and it's caused white rot which
is so annoying um I think that's
definitely what it is so that is what
that is then that is white rot that is
100% because look in the soil I dig
around the soil look look at all the
white
stuff look at that all the white stuff
in the soil that's white rot oh gosh
it's everywhere
here no it's not actually it's only
around this one can I just dig it all
out oh it goes really deep can you see
it all these white this white stuff in
the soil see all the white not the
binder ignore that but as I'm digging
it's like white po
in the
soil that's what it is I dig around him
have you got it yeah look oh that is
such a
shame yeah look
white white rck that is white rot oh I
can't believe that that is so
annoying that is so annoying that is
actually so annoying um I will just
leave the onions in there because you
never know they might come back maybe
it' be cold enough to kill the fungus I
don't know I've got more onions on my
other plot I'm going to go check
them you can come with me
too right this is my other row of onions
that I planted in here cuz I had some
left over I'm using my other glove so
this glove has not touched that soil um
so that I don't spread the infection if
it isn't here I have a feeling it's
going to be here though should I show
dig so you can see
here oh no I don't see any I don't see
any
there I don't see any
there I can't see any white rot all
fantastic thank God I used the other
glove otherwise they'd have it now yeah
no there's none there's none at all
right good okay so these ones are safe
so I can't use that glove on these ones
anymore because otherwise you might
spread the infection it can also also
spread I think to garlic so I'm just
going to have a dig around the garlic
and have a look how that's
doing please garlic please right this
garlic looks pretty happy but are you oh
no oh no I see a little bit of it
there oh I see
it I see it straight away I can see
exactly what I'm looking for now I mean
in the plus side that's a good thing
that I know what I'm looking for yeah
these have all got it and the leaves are
already starting to go yellow which is
another sure sign that they've got white
rot yeah they've got it yeah it's in the
soil you'll really see it around this
one here as I'm
digging can you see the
white the white coming
up it's just Flex of I don't know if you
can see it actually it's Flex of white
in the soil like I said it looks like a
bird's pooed here I think that's
probably what I used to
think I can just see it I can just see
it right let's check the other ones I
expect these have got it too in fact I
can already see it on the surface which
is not a good sign no he's all
right he's all
right yeah it's here it's here I can see
it little white specks all around them
yeah so gosh that is so
annoying some of them might survive it I
have to wait and see I
think that is so annoying cuz I was
literally about about to say oh I think
onions and garlics do really well on my
plots um the Slugs don't get them the
birds don't get them they're just
growing really well I think I'll just
grow that obviously not obviously not
Mother Nature had other ideas for me
this year so it looks like they've all
got white rot we don't know we don't
know how many might get out of them it's
worth keeping them in for now because
nothing else is growing there but if
they do will come out with proper white
rot and they die I Won't Grow any aliums
in either plot again there'll be no
point I'll just grow them in pots at
home I think it'd be so much easier I've
got so much space now at the back of my
new allotment plot I don't quite know
what to do with it I think I'm going to
have to redesign the entire space which
is very exciting I think I remember last
year I got a bit overwhelmed with the
back cuz I had all this new space this
year I feel a little bit more together
so I'm going to design it properly and
uh sort that out which is exciting stuff
anyway don't forget to pick up my uh
self-indulgent Escapade on Amazon now
you can go and pick this up absolutely
no professional advice and um an
absolute flop of a book so enjoy
that um and thank you so much for
watching I will be back again on
Wednesday so I will see you then guys
happy gardening till then see you then
bye
