A 24-hour trip in Vienna with amazing food, culture, and unforgettable flavors!
On this food tour of Vienna, we kick off with some incredible Austrian street food
at Leo's Würstelstand, trying some local Würstel, Lieberkase and some roast pork.
After that, we try the Balkan delicacy Burek and after Burek, it's time for chocolate and
the famous local dessert Kaiserschmarrn. After Kaiserschmarrn, we go for Wiener Schnitzel
and some more amazing Austrian meat feast. So, let's begin.
Behind me is Leo's Würstelstand and this will be our first stop in Vienna,
where we're going to try some local traditional street food. So, let's go.
This has to be one of the busiest crossroads in Vienna. The cars don't stop, they drive like
crazy here, but the food here looks and smells amazing and I ordered Kasekreiner, the local
famous Würstel stuffed with cheese. I also ordered Bratwurst, another famous local sausage,
the thin one. They're both grilled and there is some brown homemade bread that comes with them.
I also got a couple of more local treats and one is Lieberkase and this is this loaf made of liver
and cheese, probably some other meats as well, made into a sandwich, as well as some
very tasty looking roast bacon.
Let's first try this Würstel on its own, without mustard or bread.
The outside skin is so nice, very crunchy, hot sausage and then inside, once you bite into it,
this cheese just bursts. Let's try it with a bit of this brown bread and some mustard and ketchup
as well. With the bread, it was even better because it's more complete and then this mustard
has such a beautiful taste. So, now I'm gonna go with the Bratwurst, but with the mustard on top
immediately. Now, this Bratwurst is something special. There's no cheese inside, only meat,
but the taste is so good. There is something special about this taste. Again, the skin is
quite good, a bit crunchy and then very juicy and tasty inside.
Definitely my favorite sausage in Vienna. So tasty, that skin, thin, crunchy, incredible.
Lieberkase, another local goodness and still steaming hot. Very similar consistency to that
Würstel, but the taste is a bit different, a bit more salty and a bit stronger taste as well.
The bun is decent, but once you hit this mustard, this is where all the joy starts.
And of course, I try to leave the best for the last,
this succulent looking bacon with a dollop of mustard on top. Let's go.
Actually, here there is more meat than the bacon itself. I think this is pork belly
and it was perfectly roasted and it has that amazing crunch. The skin is so crispy, so crunchy.
This is such a beautiful, beautiful meat. This is a proper roast pork with some incredible skin.
If I could get only skin, I think I would buy only skin and make a sandwich out of it.
Wow. That was some incredible street food of Vienna and Austria at Leo's Würstel stand and
we enjoyed those sausages. The Würstel, they were amazing. Lieberkase as well. And then again,
that pork belly, the roast pork with that very crunchy skin. Just incredible. And this will be
it for this evening. But of course, we continue tomorrow with some more great local Vienna foods.
So see you then. Good morning from Vienna. It's a bit gray morning, but we continue with our food
and behind me is Boro Bakery, the Boro Bakery. And here we're going to enjoy some great pastries.
because they make fresh burek on the spot, made on the spot, baked fresh and here it can be enjoyed
and it looks amazing, smells amazing as well. This is a staple breakfast, staple food of former
Yugoslavian countries of Serbia, Bosnia and all the region. And this is the food that I grew up with.
I know that this is not a typical Austrian food at all, but this food has become obviously a part
of the local food culture. So let's begin. Incredibly crispy and crunchy, the top layer
and then inside they're nice and soft and then the cheese as well. Let's go with the first bite.
Very good burek. The top layer, as I expected, quite crunchy, crispy. Then these layers, they
all separate. This is how it should be. The cheese is also nice, maybe not as fatty as I would expect,
but overall this is a very, very good burek. Gets better with each bite. And of course,
it cannot go without some proper Serbian yogurt. Cheers.
Unlike the Greek yogurt, which is quite thick, this one is liquid and it's similar to kefir found
in some Eastern European countries, but the taste is a bit different and it's really unique to
Serbia and maybe some surrounding regions. Cheers again. Some incredible breakfast at Boro Bakery,
but we now continue with our Vienna food tour. We are inside Laderach and this shop specializes in
any and every kind of handmade chocolate. There are different types of chocolate blocks made with
almonds, hazelnut, classic, with fruit and many other stuffing. And also they have these chocolate
bonbons, chocolate candies, they have chocolate teddy bears, they have anything chocolate that
you can imagine. And we can't wait to try some of this very delicious looking stuff.
And this one is like with dark chocolate and
flowers and this one is dark chocolate with honey and almond splits and it's very good.
And for the children, I think it's better.
Real strawberry. And we've got some chocolate to try out and this one is with honey and cereal.
Great taste of dark chocolate and then this cereal and honey just make the taste better.
And this chocolate is even more interesting. It has almond splits,
it has strawberry and it has rose water and rose petals on top.
This one is really tasty. This is not a dark chocolate, it has milk and then these almond
splits are very tasty. Strawberry gives it a bit of acidic taste as well.
Another chocolate candy for tryout and this one has orange peel on top
and inside is the egg foam and then this chocolate drop on top.
This is practically a homemade marshmallow candy and it's really amazing. That orange peel on top
was just incredible. Then inside this handmade egg foam chocolate as well. Perfect.
So we are inside of Cheese and More shop and this is part of Henry Willig
cheese production. This is a family-owned company from Netherlands but they have shops and
production all around Germany and Austria. And this is all Gouda cheese and it looks amazing,
smells amazing, different colors, different tastes. But they have here, the farmers,
the typical Gouda cheese. This is handmade cheese and it smells beautiful, has a nice color. So
let's go. That's that recognizable Gouda cheese taste but again it has this aftertaste that you
don't get in industrial cheese. Quite, quite nice. The high quality cheese is like four months.
And then I also got to try this goat's cheese, another handmade cheese and this is mid-aged
cheese. There's no strong smell but the taste is quite nice, salty, strong. Of course proper goat's
cheese.
Another great cheese from Gouda family and this one is goat's cheese and this is mid-aged,
six months aged cheese. And this one comes with wine. These small pearls on top are something like
you get in bubbly tea but this is made with wine. So let's try it. This is a complete whirlwind of
tastes. Very creamy, very dense. These pearls are a bit sweet but then there is also that very strong
taste of wine, a little bit acidic as well. Such an interesting combination. Great cheese tasting
at Cheese and More but of course we continue. Behind me is Kaiser's Kaiserschmarrn and here
we're gonna try this famous local dessert, a type of pancakes topped with many different toppings.
These Kaiserschmarrn pancakes are a type of very fluffy, very spongy pancake and then it's broken
into these crumbles. They're heated up in a frying pan and then served with Nutella, fruits and ice
cream on top. For us it's a bit cold outside to eat ice cream, it's only four degrees, so we ordered
all without ice cream. And the kids got one with Nutella and coconut and strawberries. And us adults
we got one with Nutella and roseberries on top. Let's go. Very nice and milky taste of pancake.
Very sweet because of this Nutella, of course. Very, very tasty. But now I will try it with some
roseberries on top. Now with all these juicy and tasty roseberries on top, this is something
completely different. This sweetness is a bit neutralized by the acidic taste of roseberries
and quite good combination. It is maybe a bit on a pricey side but an amazing dessert.
Behind me is Rado's Garstbierschaft and here we're going to enjoy some proper Austrian food.
We had to book in advance but we are here now. We got seated. It's a nice and quiet local place.
We made our orders and the important thing is that my beer is here in this amazing looking ceramic jug.
Cheers. First thing to arrive after this beer are our soups and this is a clear beef broth
with some huge semolina dumplings inside. So let's dig in. The dumplings are quite soft,
they break very easily. So let's go.
These dumplings completely dissolve in your mouth and the broth is nice, clear, hot and really tasty.
Regarding how cold it is outside, this is just a perfect start to any meal.
Our food is here and this is completely crazy. It's a huge Austrian feast on our table
and we got of course the trademark, the Wiener Schnitzel, the pork one. Then we got some mixed
salad, then potato salad, then we also got Vienna style goulash and we got the whole pork rib rack.
So let's begin. I drizzled some lemon on top, then took a slice of this Wiener Schnitzel
but to me this skin is amazing. So thin and I suppose crunchy as well.
The Schnitzel, beaten by a hammer, nice and thin. But let's try it. The meat is so thin but so tasty,
really easy to chew, almost melting in your mouth. But then this skin, that's the star of the show.
Together a perfect combination, a perfect Wiener Schnitzel.
Well of course it goes quite nice with mayo as well. I was quite envious of my wife while I was
eating the Schnitzel. She was eating this Vienna goulash and this meat looks incredible.
Once you touch it with a spoon it breaks apart. The sauce is nice and thick. So here we go.
Huge chunks of beef but very nicely cooked. It's not melting in your mouth but still easy to chew,
very tasty, very succulent and this sauce is full of flavors as well.
With that bite I just hit some nice and fatty part of this
meat chunk and this is always my favorite when there is a bit of fat inside the meat.
But before jumping onto these ribs let's go with one more bite of Wiener Schnitzel.
Perfectly glazed on top, has very nice color inside and it's spread on these fried young potatoes.
Let's go.
It almost falls off the bone, has very nice smoky taste. It is a bit salty but then this
beautiful barbecue sauce on top and these are just some amazing pork ribs. Wow. Let's try it
now with this garlic sauce provided on the side. This garlic sauce just adds a layer of freshness
to it and that garlic of course improves the overall taste. But again very juicy, very nice,
that barbecue glaze amazing. It is a bit salty for my taste but again if this was a smoked rib
this is expected. Outstanding pork ribs. If this isn't a proof that these ribs were perfectly
cooked then I don't know what it is. Cheers. And let's do one more for the road.
It definitely deserves a thumbs up. So much meat. But let's try this mixed salad made of
tomatoes, cucumbers, some shredded cabbage and some arugula on top. Very fresh, very crisp, acidic,
also a little bit sweet, quite tasty mixed salad. And to try to push all this food down with some
beer. Cheers. An incredible food. We were blown away by the calories, by the amount of meat in
each portion, by the quality and taste of it and the great service as well. An amazing dinner at
this cozy little restaurant. And with this we end our Vienna food tour. Until the next time, all the best.
