How the Super Bowl footballs are made

all right now to an essential part of the game you probably really don't spend all that much time thinking about this is the actual football itself that's the critical part of the game let's go to Christy lto she's live here in New Orleans as well to show us how the game balls are built hi Christie hi friends well we all know that you can't play the Super Bowl without footballs and you can't play it with just any football in fact Wilson has made the official game day ball for every single Super Bowl and we got a first look at how it all goes down these guys realize that they're on the biggest stage in the world right now so there's a lot of Pride there's a lot of craftsmanship that goes into this a lot of love all on display at the NFL Fan Experience in New Orleans a small team from Wilson's Factory in Ada Ohio walking fans and even us through some of the steps to make the official NFL game day football for the Super Bowl Casey Patton is the plant manager of the 20 stages we got the hides uh to the size that's needed we sew a liner on the back and then from there it comes over to our lock stitch sewing machine which isn't done by just anyone that skill takes months of training ball sewn inside out it's important we get the ball right side out then it goes to the Turning station he's using here's a steam box and what that does it just softens the leather up a little bit it stays in for about 30 seconds then he hammers it out then he just pulls her through the ball of eventually makes its way to be sewn up after what's called a bladder is placed inside the ball to give it its shape it then heads to molding stretches out all the seam it stretches out all the laces and actually forms the seam itself okay so when it comes out it is the perfect size of a football and the seams are all well defined so now that the ball is molded the operator will grab a brush just kind of clean up any the dry March let's finish products gorgeous beautiful so here's something that's really cool the NFL microchips the game day ball to keep track of both the teams performances and also the players during the Super Bowl so a lot of work goes into making all of this happen for now I am live down here in the French corner I'm going to send it back to you guys in Philadelphia in the studio gray and Sarah very cool who knew who knew now we do Christy than
