Yeah, I am really excited. It's been about 18 months in the making.
Final call. This is the decider.
Yeah, that's probably the hardest game, isn't it?
Hello, and welcome to The Drop, the show that brings you a bit of everything
right here at the AIG Women's Open in St. Andrews, the home of golf.
First up, we head down to the Festival Village, where Mia and Tisha had a go at some kick golf.
Hi friends, so we are here at the Festival Village and we are taking on the HSBC kick golf challenge with my friend Mia.
Well, it's 16 yards for the first hole. There's three holes we've got to play.
I'm saying you go first because I actually don't really know how to hit a football.
I am very competitive. So we're going to we're going to see who wins this right now.
You're up first. Well, I'm going to say it's pretty windy.
OK. We're going for number one, by the way, Tisha.
But my speed was great. Was it? We're going more left like you.
Yeah. Oh, that was straight. Oh, but you hit it hard.
Oh, that was close. I'm on the green. Does that mean I've gotten a point?
OK, we're going to give one point to you. I think that's fair.
We're going to go nearest the hole rather than in the hole because it's quite hard.
Yeah, the in the hole part is the hard part. Left to right again.
I'm going to go left to right. Oh, strong up the hill.
I like it. Break. Too much break. Too much break.
That was a good effort. I'm still rolling. A little more left than that.
OK, right. Oh, I don't go left. I've not got this left to right.
You've left your foot open. But I'm closer.
OK, I'm taking the point. All right, third hole, 32 yards. Final hole.
This is the decider. It's a par three, but we're going to try and get it in one go.
Oh, no, that's good. I like it.
Oh, I didn't. Oh, it's going to go. I'm really not very good at this.
Well, we have to finish it. OK. OK. Oh, that was the best break.
OK. I'm close. I'm going to get one in. I'm going to putt it. This is it for the win.
Wow, that's a challenge. I give it to you, Mia.
That was way too hard for me.
I am not meant to play this game. You are the champion.
I think that's a good end. Wow.
This week, we're launching the Adidas Golf and JL collab here at the AIG Women's Open.
We've got a catwalk about to happen. We've got some really cool clothing.
Come on, let's go and see what's happening.
I'm joined here by Jenny Ko, the Global Design Director at Adidas,
and you've had a huge role in terms of creating this concept that we are launching today.
Can you tell us a little bit about it? Yeah, I am really excited.
It's been about 18 months in the making.
This is a really special collaboration because we joined forces with Lindbergh
and we're creating a really beautiful capsule for women.
Johann Lindbergh contacted Lin Grant. He was inspired by her. Who isn't?
And then she was kind of the liaison to put us together and build this amazing product.
She was also very involved in the product.
And I think one thing that's pretty amazing about it is that we've got professional athletes on tour
who are now completely kind of changing the way in which they look.
What are your thoughts on that?
Golf is a sport. It's a really unique one in that it lives in this kind of lifestyle
and performance fusion since the beginning.
And I think with women in particular, these past few years have been really
leaps and bounds in what they can bring to their own personality onto the course.
And I think we're here to help to do that.
All right. Thank you so much, Jenny. It's amazing.
And I can't wait to see what happens in the catwalk.
I'm standing here with Annika Sorenstam. Now, we'd like to have you build the perfect Lynx golfer.
So we will start off with tee shots. Who would you have play your tee shots?
Well, today I'd probably put Nilly Korda. You know, she can drive the ball long and straight.
Now, how about approach shots?
Approach shots. Well, if you talk long irons, I probably would have taken somebody like Kari Webb
in her prime. Her long irons was pretty good.
I probably would, if I'm allowed to throw myself in there with short irons, that was probably my strength.
How about a short game? Short game? I would, I don't know if you've ever seen Joanne Connor.
I mean, I would pick her for a short game anytime.
You know, but more of a modern player, you know, somebody like Lydia Ko is always very solid.
Last but certainly not least, mental game. Mental game.
Yeah, that's probably the hardest game, isn't it?
Somebody that's just very, very consistent. Today, well, Nilly Korda is a modern player.
I thought Siri Pak was quite good. I thought Lorena Ochoa was very, very good at that.
So yeah, there's a lot to choose from.
Love it.
17th tee box. Look what the players have to face. Now, nobody's comfortable hitting a blind shot,
especially when your caddy says, you see, old course hotel, just hit it over the hotel part.
Yeah, that word is the line for these players.
I'm thinking that's too far right. I'm going to be in somebody's bedroom at this rate.
But trust me, if you go anything further left than the lion on that sign, you run out of fairway.
This dogleg from left to right, you'll hit through the fairway into the rough and you don't get a great angle in.
So you need to be brave. You need to take this tee shot on.
Now to carry it, it's 192 yards. That's not an issue. And it's 282 yards to run out.
But if you push it or the wind doesn't hit it, then it's goodbye.
Out of bounds on the 17th hole. That's not what you like.
So many players, as they get into the bottom of their downswing, might just tweak that club face.
Just make sure it goes left, which is fine. It means the tee shot's fine.
However, the second shot is really quite difficult.
So trust what your cad is saying. It's over the hotel. Not the hotel, the word of the hotel.
Oh, it just feels so uncomfortable aiming away from the actual fairway.
Oh, come on. Trust it.
Oh, I couldn't make myself do it. I tweaked it to the left. I'm safe, but I wonder if I've run through the fairway.
I had to show you this tee shot. I had to show you what the players faced and how uncomfortable they will be on 17 tee.
The road hole, the most infamous par 4 in the world.
Now, the wind will be right to left all week, pushing you down the left hand side off the tee,
maybe finding the rough and then edging you closer to the bunker.
One of the most scariest bunkers you will ever go in.
Players will be doing everything they can to avoid it.
So front left is a really good play. You'll expect lots of balls in this region.
Now, if the pin isn't anywhere near the bunker, they'll be here.
But what I want you to look at is just how steep this upslope is.
It's a lot bigger than you think, so it's not an easy two putt.
Really does take all the sting out of it.
Now, if the pin's towards the back, the bunker gets bigger.
I mentioned about the wind being from right to left.
But check out the slope as well.
This slope is just going to gather the ball into the bunker.
You think, have I missed it?
No, I haven't.
And then you've got the walk.
The walk into this bunker and you're praying.
You're praying, is it a good lie?
Will I be able to stand in it? Will I be able to get it out?
The crowd are all watching.
It's a scary moment.
Exactly where you don't want to be.
Lay the face open.
Get a wide stance.
And you have got to flick this ball up.
Trust yourself.
And hope for the best.
The ball has popped out.
The crowd are going to go wild.
And the relief will be on your face.
You've got it out of the bunker first time.
Well, that's it for this episode of The Drop.
Join us again tomorrow for even more fun here at the AIG Women's Open.
Thanks for watching.
