I felt I was part of the cosmos. I was like a star, a constellation of stars.
And I felt that was the size that I was occupying. I was a massive system, I felt, within me.
Hi, this is Susie Pearl. I'm an author and podcaster and broadcaster. In 2018,
I began to lose my memory. And I forget where I put my car and I forget many things. I was
getting many things. And my friends were saying that I was acting a bit strangely.
And they wanted me to get checked out to find out what was going on. And I didn't think there
was anything wrong with me. But it turned out I went to the hospital because my neighbor made me
go. And she took me to the hospital and they did a test on my brain and found that I had a big brain
tumour. And at this point, I knew that I was given three weeks to live. They said, this is
very serious and you won't survive. Most people who have this and very, very, very small chance
that you will get through this beyond just a few weeks. So everyone was preparing for my departure.
And the strange thing was that I was not worried. I knew that I wasn't going to die. And more than
that, I wasn't fearful. I didn't fear dying at all at this point when death was right in front
of me, apparently. And I have a son who's young. So I didn't want to die, but I didn't fear it
either. And when I was going through the treatment, I sat on my bed one day and began to meditate.
And I had this very strong intuition and feeling that I was going to die at that point.
And I heard this voice in my head saying, you're going to die today. So I was in hospital at this
time being treated for brain cancer. So I went to see my favourite nurse and I saw the nurse and I
said, sorry to interrupt you because she was in a meeting. I said, sorry to interrupt you, but
I have something important to ask. And she said, what's that, Susie? I said, well, I think I'm
going to die today and I want you to keep an eye on me. And she smiled and said, you're not going
to die today. We've got you covered. All right, don't worry. So obviously, very deeply, I knew.
So I said, all right, I'm going back to my bed now. I'm in the hospital ward. Please just come
and see me when you can. So I went back to my bed and sat on the bed and began to meditate.
And then I felt this amazing kind of whoosh feeling where my spirit was tugging to get out
my body and I could feel it really tugging to get out. And it was like I had some sort of hoover
here, some sort of device to really sucking out my spirit. And then I felt this energy move through
my body, came up through my body, out the top of my head. And I felt, oh, goodness, I've never
felt this before. It feels like I'm dying. And at that point, my spirit left my body and I floated
up and I was above my body looking down. And I could see my body, but I wasn't in my body.
And it was a lovely feeling. It was a really nice feeling. It was a feeling of freedom.
I'm free. I can do whatever I want to do. It was incredible and very joyous, very blissful,
very lovely feeling. And then I began to, well, when I say then, there is no time.
Everything happens at the same time, concurrently at the same time. So I noticed that I was traveling
through what looked like a cosmos. It looked a bit like the image we have of the sky and
the sky at night and so on. It was starry and it was vast and it was infinite.
And as I was traveling through, I was having these conversations, this intuition thing. And I
knew I was looked after. I knew I was safe. I knew there was nothing to fear.
And at that moment, I really understood that we are all one. There's not me and you and them.
It's a collective. It's a collective energy. It's a collective consciousness.
I was very happy. And then I was given the choice of, do you want to come back into your body?
And I had one choice, only one chance to say yes or no. And I knew that it was a very important
decision. And for me, it was a very easy decision. I wanted to come back. I wanted to see my son.
I wanted to look after my son and be his mom. He was too young for me to go. And I loved him.
I loved him so much. So I said, I want to go back in my body to myself. And at that moment,
there was a white flash and I was transported back into my body. And I was healed. The next
day I had a brain scan and the tumor had gone. And the doctor came in and he's a very
prestigious doctor. And he had worked in this area for 40 years. Well, I don't know, it was 40
years, 30 or 40 years. Very prestigious elderly doctor. And he said, in all my years of working
in cancer treatment, I've never seen an incredible healing like this. He said, it's clear. The tumor
has gone. It's complete healing. And surprisingly, there is no scar tissue at all. There's no sign
that it was ever there. And yet he said he and myself, he himself had taken the scan before and
seen this enormous tumor in my head. So he said, it looks like a miracle to me, but we're not in
the business of miracles as doctors. But this looks like a miracle. And then my brother said,
this is a miracle. And it felt like a miracle. Miracles meaning that it's an extraordinary event
that no one could have predicted or expected. And that is what happened. So the white flash and I
was transported and I was back in my bed in my hospital room, surrounded by all the monitors.
And I came back in and I felt happy. When I was going into the scanner and I was asking why,
why is this happening to me? I was surrounded with a golden orb. It's a gold,
a feeling of gold, gold orb around me. And by orb, I mean a kind of, it was a circular
energy field, which is bright gold in color. Beautiful. That felt, made me feel protected.
And I felt this was a golden angels that had come and were talking to me
and communicating with me. And I think their job was to give me information,
soothe me and make sure that I felt comfortable and okay. And they were saying to me,
they said to me, you will have three scans. When I say they told me, this is telepathy, intuition,
a knowing, a voice that you know is real. That's how I felt. They told me, you will have three
scans. The first scan will give you bad news. It will be serious. The second scan
will be much better, will be improved. And the third scan, you will be healed fully.
So I knew my storyline and I believed this because I felt it was the angels telling me.
And I had three scans. One was terrible. The results came back and they said three weeks to
live. The second scan, much better, much improved, still there. The tumor was still there, but
much better. Third one, they said, this is miraculous result. You're clear. So the story
from the angels that I was given was given to me to really soothe my mind and give me information
so that I could kind of get through. Cause knowing I knew this was true. So going through
the journey was much easier for me because I knew I was going to be healed and that made everything
much, much easier to accept and deal with. And when I went out of my body and I went up and out,
it felt, I was, it was like, I was, it's very hard to use words to explain what happened
because it's kind of beyond words, but I felt I was part of the cosmos. I was like a star,
a constellation of stars. And I felt that was the size that I was occupying. I was a massive
system I felt within this cosmos. And I knew that I was a part of a cosmos. And I felt like I was,
if you look at the body and you see, we are made up of a head and torso and legs. And within that,
there's cells and organs and all the processes. You can keep breaking things down and breaking
things up. I realized that my soul, my sole purpose, I was part of a much bigger organism.
And I don't think we're even meant to know what that vastness is all about. As human beings,
I'm not sure that we have the capability to understand and know the full truth of the
universe. Maybe that's not the point. We're curious. As human beings, we're curious. We
want to know how does this work? What does this mean? But I think at some point, the curiousness
and the being able to get hold of hard facts and information about how all this works,
I don't know if we're fully meant to know how it all works. It does work. The moon and the sun
move around. The planets move around. The cosmos moves. We have the seasons, the days, the years,
all of these things keep moving. But we really don't understand the mechanics of it.
And what I learned when I was out of my body was that this whole thing is so vast
that we probably can never or should never fully understand how it all works. And to ask the
questions of, I want to know how this works. I want to know who is God? Is there a God?
What is religion? Who am I praying to? All of these things. It's very, very difficult for us
to fully understand. And I think that it's not necessary for us to say this is how it works.
This is the God that I'm revering or whatever. This is how it works because we can't possibly
know. But what we can do is check inside ourselves and see what we feel, what we believe is true.
And there are certain truths that I now carry around with me all the time. And I'll try and
describe some of these truths. I am fully looked after. You are fully looked after at all times.
There is a big force running this show. We may not understand the force. We may all have different
names for this force. It doesn't matter. The point is that there is an intelligence that is running
this universe, that is giving everything, all the plants and the animals and the birth and death of
all the insects and animals and creatures on this planet. There's a force that's running all of this,
that's running the seasons and the weather and all of these things. And all I know is I am looked
after and I am blessed. And when I connect with this force, I can do by going within, inside.
I go inside. I shut my eyes and meditate or pray or take quiet times or walk in nature,
whatever the method we use to connect with this big source. By connecting, we get powered up.
And by being powered up, we begin to realize there is, we must trust. It's important that we trust
in the big picture, whatever that is, and to trust that we are looked after because I do
believe we are. And then people will say, of course, but there's terrible things going on
in the world. There is war going on in the world. I do not have explanations for everything that
goes on. I do not. But what I do know is when I went to the other side, I saw it as peaceful,
as beautiful, as infinite. And that there is a big plan. There is a big blueprint
that we're working within. And I think we will never fully understand it and nor should we,
perhaps. The future of humanity, it's a complicated business. I have to say that my belief
is that everything is taken care of. I don't know what that means in actuality.
And I don't think we should get too tied up with trying to think about things we can't
solve or fully understand. I think our purpose is to stay focused on our lives, our loves,
the people we have in our lives and being the best kind of humans we can be. I don't think,
I don't know what our big future looks like. I do not know. But I think on the level of my
own understanding from this experience, I have imagined it is all is well and not to overthink
it too much, but to know that we're here with a divine purpose. And when we dig inside, we all
kind of have a sense of purpose somehow, if we just allow it to come through.
Some of us are artists and create beautiful pictures. Others like myself, I write, I play
with words. Others may feel dedicated to bringing up, nurturing their little ones or teaching in
schools or whatever, but somehow we're all very different. And yet we have within us this sense
of purpose and divine destiny. And I think I would like to share with people that it's very
important to find what is your purpose and what is your, to identify why you are here.
And we do that by going within and spending time self-reflecting, thinking about this,
feeling about this and being guided. It feels to me like we are being permanently guided into
different things. Every day, there's a flash of something that comes into the mind.
Go, oh, yeah, I haven't thought about that. And it will guide us into a certain direction.
Might be a particular work thing we're doing, or we bump into someone coincidentally,
who offers us some new perspective on things. I feel like everything is in a grand design
and is beautifully designed for us to find out what we need to find out. And we must be alert
to the guidance that comes to us. In my experience of traveling out of my body,
I just have a sense. I have this sense that whatever is happening is for the best.
Certainly when I, this is, people say to me, oh, it's so sad that you had this happen.
No, this is the most amazing thing that could ever happen. I'm very grateful that I had this
brain cancer. I'm grateful because it's given me an experience that is so extraordinary,
I will never forget. And I can share it with people. And I'm sharing the sense that you're
not alone in this game of life. You are very much supported by this massive cosmic machine.
Even though we don't know how it works, I don't know what's going to happen this year, next year,
the future of the planet, the future of humanity. I don't know. But I do know that we are part of
something divine and holy and special. And we are part of this thing unfolding and working itself
out. And through the generations, through the centuries of our ancestors before us,
they have all lived extraordinary lives, very different. No one life is the same as another.
So we cannot compare, oh, your life is similar to mine. No, our lives are hugely different.
And even within our own families, all our lives are spectacularly different.
So I don't purport to be able to say what is going to happen next. But I do know that whatever
happens next is divinely good. That's all I can say about that. I feel like there was a Suzy Pearl
before this happened, and then a different version of me after this has happened. Things really
changed. For example, I realize we are all one. I realize that we are forever looked after.
And I realize that there is nothing to fear with death. Death is letting go of this body.
And as much as I love my body, I am not my body. I am my spirit. And so this remains forever.
The spirit remains forever. Our body may die. And in truth, there is nothing to worry about
regarding dying, because we are all connected. I will forever be connected with the wonderful
people in my life. Those who have passed, my parents and my ancestors and my relatives,
they're all there. They may not be here in body. And we're always connected with the people we
know from our lives here. And there seems to be an infinite, everlasting connection between us all.
And from this experience, I understood that we are meant, we are here on Earth in this lifetime.
And we are meant to be living a good life, a kind life, a compassionate life, a life where we look
after one another. And we're meant to be having fun. That's why we were created. I believe that
we're created to have fun and goodness in our lives. We're meant to enjoy this life.
We're not meant to be fearing and battling, feeling bad and feeling overwhelmed.
I think it's our duty. One of the things I've learned is I think it's our duty. And
I think it's a good idea to organize life, to be calmer and more peaceful and more gentle.
And I know there are things going on in the world. We all know that make us feel very, very sad.
But on an individual and collective level, we just have to honor one another, be peaceful,
be kind, be compassionate, and help others to live a life. I believe there are challenges
that we all face in our lives. And these challenges, they are happening to all humans
in different ways. And the challenges that we experience are there to make us grow,
to give us lessons, to make us understand certain things. I've had tragedies in my life and terrible
things happen. And when I track them and look at them, I think, goodness, this has taught me
what I've come here to learn. So anything bad that happens in my life, I think to myself,
what is it that this is here to teach me? I have to get the lesson, understand the lesson,
and that will allow me to move on with my life. And if I don't get the lesson, this
thing will keep recurring in different forms and keep coming to test me and challenge me.
So I think that the human spirit is something that we need to nurture and something that we
need to embrace and see that fundamentally we are and should be good people. And to be able to
really go inside ourselves, it's not the external world that is the important thing.
Even though it's very prevalent to us, it feels like we go to work, we go shopping,
we see friends. It feels like it's all out there. But in truth, what I found in my experience of
traveling out of my body was that it is all inside us. It's very hard for us to get that
in our minds of how that all works. But all of the sages and the gurus and the old spiritual
teachers talk about the inner world, the text, the biblical texts, the scriptures.
Regardless of religion, they all come back to a similar thing, which is
go inside and do the inside work. And for me, this is the most important thing.
I spend a lot of my days now, I do a lot of inner work, a lot of meditation,
and going inside myself to see my feelings, where my hurts are, and just try and do
the work of healing and healing and healing. And I think in this lifetime,
I've had this dramatic story. And when I was going into the scanner, the brain scanner for
the first time, I asked a question. I had my eyes closed, and it was very scary going into the
scanner. It was enclosed. It was very noisy. And I didn't know what they were going to find
in my brain. And I asked, I prayed, and I said, please let me get through this.
And I would like to know why this is happening to me. I've been a good person. Why am I having
to go through this? And I got a very clear answer. The answer was that you're being given this story
so that you share it with others. You inspire others. You give others information about the
bigger picture of life. You're an author and a writer of books, and you have a big platform
to be able to use this story to share with the world and inspire people about what life is truly
about. And I think we learn really the important things of what life is about when we die. It's
then that we begin to understand and have a realization about what life is truly about.
Day to day, we get lost in the details. Have I bought some fruit? Have I bought the vegetables?
What am I cooking tonight? All of these things, which override the really big questions of why
am I here and what is my purpose? And our purpose is to grow, to transform, to support, to be in
service to others, and to really connect to the inner source that is within all of us.
I think in our time, in our time, at this time in the history of the universe,
we have many things at our disposal. We have technology. We can chat to people around the
world. We are connected digitally now like no other time. And I think this is a time for us to
really lose the distraction of the outside world, of social media, of all these things that are
fighting for our attention. All of the money now is being spent to get our attention,
to get our clicks on a feed or get us to watch certain things or buy certain things.
And I think the smart thing for us to do is to zoom back and just take a look. We have a very
short time on the planet. If we live ordinary lives, it might be 80 to 100 years, for example,
that we are here on this planet. Let's really view life through a lens that this is very special
every day, every minute, every hour, every week, every year, every decade,
every lifetime is divine and magical and special and should have our attention.
Let's not get distracted by the many distractions that are there in the world,
but go back regularly to centre. Go back to who you are as this incredible
being of consciousness and think good things. How can I serve in this world?
How can I help in this world? And by so doing, make all of our experiences more pleasurable
and nicer, because I believe we're meant to be having a really nice time and many of us are not
having a really nice time or having enough to eat or having enough money or whatever it is of health.
So, I think if we spin round and stop getting distracted with the external stuff,
go inside, spend more time connecting with ourselves and with others on a one-to-one level,
spending more time as humans to each other, connecting, making friends, holding community,
holding space for others, interacting in the world with others and developing friendships and things.
That for me is the most important thing. When I believed or others were saying,
you may die, my attention went to things like, how good have I been in my life? How much have I
enjoyed my life? And how much time have I spent thinking about what I truly want? If I'm going
to die tomorrow, what would I do today? That's a good question to ask yourself is,
am I making the most of my life? That's the most important thing I think we should carry with us,
is how we live a good life and to make sure that every day is special and make every moment special
and realise that we are not around in these bodies for very long. It's a very,
very short amount of time. So, we might as well make good use of it. That's my key thing I got
from my near-death experiences. We're looked after. We've got to live this life like it's
really important. Do good, help each other, be kind and know that we don't die. Our bodies die.
We don't die. We are infinite beings. I guess spirituality in general was my religion.
I'm not a religious person as such. I believe in God. I believe in the higher power. I work
here because there must be. This is such a fantastic universe that there has to be some
power behind it. I don't know. I don't have a religion that I follow other than a spiritual
one. I know that I'm a spiritual being having the experience of a life on planet Earth.
I know that I don't know very much. That's all I know. So, religion for me, it's
causes a lot of trouble. It can cause wars around the world. So, I'm careful about saying this is
right. This is the right way. This is the only way. No, I believe people should take their own
views on things and believe things that feel right for them. For me, it's the fact that
I'm a spiritual being in a physical body. I run my life according to what I believe are good
moral perspectives of kindness and being good to other people. That really is my religion.
