Morning everyone, time to start a new video and a new phase really in the construction.
Last night I got a little bit of a concrete pad down just to start the stone wall. It's only
shallow, a couple of inches, because these concrete pads actually extend out to here
on both sides and so there's just a bit in the middle that's down onto the compacted stone,
so I think that would be nice and stable. It's mostly just so rats can't dig under it,
that's more the reason because the stone wall would be fine sat on top of this,
I just don't want stuff digging under it. And so yeah, got some lime and we got the stone
bought here a few months ago now. So stone work begins. Now I wouldn't be expecting anything too
amazing here now because my stone work isn't exactly tip top. We'll give it a go.
I'll try and save some of the bigger stones for the back wall that's significantly higher
than this front wall. We're coming a little bit back from the edge but not quite that far back.
can you see that? So I've got a little bit of mix left, so plonk that on top and we'll do another
around but then this looks like it might just be on the wet side but I'll get the hang of it.
All right, I've got the stone work done and while I've got a bit of mix left,
while the rest of it's setting, I'm just going to get this ceiling embedded onto it as well.
Get that in, there we go. Right, that wants to line up with the front of there
and it needs to come back a bit. There you go, it's going. It just needs to go down a touch.
windy wet day today, not a good day but we're going to get on anyway. Concrete in the shallow
trenches, I've started the day with a flat tyre and I need this to move some sand so I've just
taken that off, given it a bit of zinc galvanising spray because it's getting a bit corroded and
sticking a new inner tube in there. Then I've got to go get sand and then we'll concrete some
shallow trenches. Can't do lime work in this weather really, it's too wet but concrete would
be all right. So yeah, get this fixed and we'll get to doing some concrete. Honestly, this weather
has just been just non-stop rain, really gets you down after a while.
the wind, it's a savage day today. We've got a few of these trenches done, this one over here is wet
still. I just poured that one, I'm just going to do a long one across the back now, get in there,
it's just a really wet day. So yeah, just the shallow trenches because we've got concrete
on the sides of these pads and I just want to go down a little bit of a nice solid base to put the
Right, another one done but it's getting rained on a bit. Worst case scenario is to just wash the
very top off but this weather is just driving me out of my mind now. It's just non-stop rain
and wind and cold. I just want to get on with this but the weather, I've got to chuck it down
tomorrow again now and I can't do the lime in the rain and so, I mean it's borderline doing concrete
in the rain. But yeah, I've brushed up this wall a little bit and it's looking all right.
Yeah, I just want to get on and get these stone walls done but I've got to work around the weather.
But we'll call it a day for today. Tomorrow we've got, well not tomorrow actually, when we get a
better day, carry on doing these trenches and stonework. Right, hey everyone, so we've finally
got a dry day and the sun's actually out. As you can see, we've been going around doing these
shallow trenches for the stone walling. So last one you saw me do was that one and now we've just
started working our way around the back wall as well. So we've got this one on the front done as
well and then we've started putting in these ones across the back wall. So we've got that one done,
literally just finished that one. That one's done and then we're just going to do the end one now
and then it's stone walling and I've just started, well just finishing actually, this one here.
Just using that to keep a level. So yeah, I should have that one done today and get this
wall plate put on as well like I did with the other one. So yeah, it's good getting on with
stuff at last. Hopefully dry today, all day. I think it's raining tonight and then dry again
tomorrow. So hopefully I can get another wall done tomorrow. Yeah, let's get on with that wall.
Hey everyone, sun's out. So that wall we did yesterday is looking good. I had to put some
boards over it because it rained last night and I've just started, well done one row on this back
wall. It's a longer wall this one so it takes a bit more time. So I'm just going to do another
mix, get that done. I'm going to have to join two timbers for that because I haven't got any long
enough. Do a half lap on them. But yeah, let's get on. It's just stone walling constantly for a minute.
So yeah, get a mix done. Try and get that one done today.
Don't want to breathe that in. So I'm doing a three to one mix of NHL5 lime. It's going to need a bit
trying to push on. Got this wall mostly done. Just need to do one more mix, get it filled in, pointed
and now I'm just starting on the wall plate. But I'm joining two together. So yeah, I'm joining
two pieces together. I've got long pieces but I want to use what I've got
rather than mill extras. So I'm just going to do a half lap because I've got this other one here
that's got a load of sapwood on it that I can cut off and then we can use both because the timber
supplies are getting a little bit low at this point. I've got loads but I've got loads I need
for other stuff. Hey everyone, so good day today. Sun's out, it's nice. You see I've been getting on a bit.
Just doing another wall now. Yeah, I've got this corner done. There's only so much filming I can do
with stonewalling constantly. That's getting on all right, as you can see. Got that corner done.
Yeah, so I'm just going to top off this one here and then get the seal log fitted and that'll be another
one done.
happy with it all in all. Not a professional job but it's good. It looks good. So I'll just put
those bits of plywood on top because we'll do a bit of rain tonight and then tomorrow I'll start
doing that one. Then that'll be half of it done. All right, yesterday's wall is set in.
Looks all right. Quite happy with that. Today's job is to do this one. Just put a bead of mortar down
and once I've done this one now, this is halfway. I suppose more than halfway because we've done all
the trenching and everything. All the foundations. Annoyingly, because I'm not that bright, I put the
roof in in the way of this one. So I'm gonna have to leave that one until the roof's done.
Yeah. Right, so I've got that stonewall done and now I've just got to fit the wall plate.
So we just bed it down a bit.
Most of this will end up getting squeezed out.
Windy. Windy day. Slides under there. That goes into here. Ah, just realised a problem.
That needs a notch out of it so it slides under there. That's annoying. Have to take that back out.
All right, I've put a little notch in it now. So now hopefully it will lever under. Let's see.
There we go. Okay. A tiny little bit further and we're there. Okay, that's good.
All right, so another one down. So we've actually got half of it done now. So we've got this whole
corner done, all the way around there and around the back there. So there's one, two, three, four,
five, six more walls to do and some of them are quite a bit bigger than these ones. But yeah,
I'm pretty pleased with it. Pretty pleased with it. The trouble I've got now though is I've run
out of lime. I bought 25 bags of lime. I've used it all. So I'm either going to go and get some
more lime. Sorry about the wind. Or I'm going to start doing the stud work. I haven't decided yet.
You'll see. Stay tuned. What are you doing in my barn?
He's protecting your lady. Yeah, you good boy. You protect your lady.
He's hissing at me because that's his lady friend. It's quite cute really.
Yes, I know. I'm not going to hurt her. Snoop knows what time it is. It is time to go and get
changed. And Snoop knows that it's time for your biscuits, don't you girl? Here, say hello to your
fans. Oh no, she's got biscuits on the mind. Come on girl. There you are. I know, I know it's biscuit
time. You're going to take the shortcut, are you? All right, I'll come with you. Let's take the
shortcut. Come on then, show the way. Okay, I'll go first. Oh, there you are.
Go on, show me the way then. I know what time it is. I know. Biscuit time, isn't it?
Come on then. Let's go. Let's go. Show me the way. And we're home.
That was a long old commute, wasn't it girl? Yes, yes, yes.
All right, hey everyone. Next day and I've run out of line for doing stonewalling and it's Sunday,
so I'm going to start getting some of this studwalling done in between. They're going to
be studwalls but with bracing, diagonal bracing, and you know, just to add more support because
it's a windy location. And yeah, let's get to work on that. I've just put some stuff through the
table saw and yeah, try and get one of these walls built. It's sort of Sunday afternoon,
Let's tight both ends there. There we go. Pretty happy with that.
As tight the other end as well. So now I'm going to build studwall between it.
So now I build studs between them which gives that obviously extra support because as a brace
that wouldn't actually do much because it's not a huge piece of timber. But once it's got
or one brace wall I should call it. Do another one on the other side but with obviously the
timber going in the opposite direction so they both land on the bottom. So that one's obviously
stopping the building going backwards and the other one will be stopping the building going
this way. It just all helps because the only bracing in that direction is right up the top
there. So this all helps fill that in. And then the cladding also will help. Now, if the cladding
just went between studs, it would make no difference because it could just pivot. But if
the cladding is also nailed to the diagonal, then that actually makes it more like a structural
board. And so that will help as well. And then we'll have brace walls between these as well
and all round. So that will help give it a lot of rigidity in the strong winds we get.
I haven't, the reason that doesn't go all the way up to the top is because the top wall is
going to have insulation in it. So that's going to have more studs and then down here doesn't
need that. So I got the other stud wall done and I was looking at it and I thought,
we need light in there because there's no roof lights because there's that floor above.
So we need windows. And I've had this window knocking about for ages. I've just made this
template of it, which is the same shape as it just so I didn't have to carry the glass up here. And
I was looking at that gap thinking, I think that window I've had for years will fit in there. So
that is the plan. Let's stick this window like that in there because the angle is almost perfect
to it. It's not quite right, but it will be okay. We'll get it to look right. So yeah, we're going
to put one in there, one in the other side and it gets rid of something I've had around for ages.
So now I'm going to go in the workshop and make some frames for those to get in this stud wall in.
Right, because this is quite big and it's just going to be in my way,
I'm just going to fit it, at least get it temporarily fitted.
the window trim. Get it temporarily affixed at the top. The angle looks a bit funny, doesn't it?
Right, so I got the other window in as well and got them actually fitted in. I know the angle
doesn't quite look right, if you can see that, but that's all going to be covered anyway. On the
inside, there's going to be paneling, I think. That's what I'm going to do anyway. But yeah,
I'm pleased I got a bit more bracing into the building and used up those windows. Stone walls,
looking good. I'm pretty happy with them. Very time consuming and not the most entertaining
thing to film, but it's just all part of it. It's just how it goes in a big building like this,
and we're about halfway around. So next video is going to be finishing them,
getting a bit more stud work in, and then we can get back up on to the roof where I'd like to be.
I do really want to try and start getting some videos out a bit more regular, because once every
three weeks a month, I'm trying to turn out the wind because it's so windy. But yeah, it's just
difficult with this weather. It's just really, really difficult. We're nearly into April now,
and still just really, just wet constantly. But I'll do my best. Hopefully once we start
getting back onto the roof, things will move a bit quicker again then. So yeah,
hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching.
