We can't start course 15 on the hyperadobe roundhouse until we build cleats for ALL our window forms. Yes that's a lot of windows. Ashely gets them installed, moves our clothesline, and we get started on course 15.
good morning today we have to get a few
things done before we can even start
course
15 we have about 20 windows that need
cleats so that is my job today I'm to
get the saw out so it can go a little
faster I just set a stop and chop a
whole bunch of wood at once and then
make some cleats to get them all ready
and set in place so that when the time
comes we are ready to start course
15 well it's a good thing I checked
because I had a bunch of scrap pieces of
tuby that were already in the shed and
they are so close to the right size by
do need to cut them down down a little
bit but I have enough for all 20 windows
so we're going to use the scraps first
save the long boards for our kitchen
window that we will be making maybe
today maybe tomorrow depends on when
Jonathan gets home he's at the grocery
and running airon so let's cut these
boards down
we got our system finally set up so
it'll be so nice to one day have a
workshop when everything's just like
there but it's fine everything's great
we are going to start putting these
cleats together it's going to go really
fast put them in place and
then maybe work
I don't know I really really really want
to work today it's such nice weather
but we'll see I also need to move a
clothes line there's some other things I
can be doing while Jonathan's gone so
let's get this done first and then we'll
see what we can get into
I'm so dumb I knew I had 20 windows I
made 20 cleats instead of
40 so back to the beginning I'm not
going to show you that when I get done
we'll go in Stall okay okay
I keep you round round cuz I don't like
to be alone but now the sound sound
sound of your voice is starting to get
old you're so
committed or am I
wicked for all my want
IND sometimes the bags are so hard the
nail just bends and you can't do
anything about it but put another one in
so but let's not go anywhere for those
of you that might be new here and you're
wondering what the heck are cleats and
why are we putting them in now so just a
quick recap whenever you're putting a
form or frame into an earthbag wall you
need a way to lock it in and hold it in
place so we build these little cleat
they have nails going down and Nails
coming up they're screwed into this wood
and then they're also nailed down in and
then when you lay the bag on top these
nails will hold it in place and the
weight of that bag and that wall as you
keep going up means that this isn't ever
going to move the reason we're putting
in cleats now is we're about at the
Midway point on these windows so we like
to put one in at the bottom when we
first start them in the middle and kind
of near the top and having those three
points where it's screwed in and all
that weight is holding on means that
it's not ever going to flex this way cuz
you want to make sure that this stays
Plum while you build so uh Ashley
definitely has her work cut out for her
with 40 something cleat good luck
babe should I keep your set you free
w drop your the
Jonathan is still not back so I'm doing
a little side project on my own this is
2in PVC uh the place that we have
our clothes line has a mosquite growing
up right next to it which keeps snagging
all of our clothes and I can't it's so
hard to pull those out cuz their tap
roots are so deep and a yucka next to it
which pokes into my leg every time I
hang close cloes and really makes me mad
so the problem is the thing that holds
our clothes line is cemented into the
ground and I don't want to dig it up so
I'm going to rig up this 2in PVC I'm
going to cut some holes in it push rebar
through it and then we're going to
cement it into a hole that I've dug
and hopefully transport our clothes line
over there where there's no amp no trees
nothing that will bother it
so Random side project this has been
bothering me so I got to get it
done okay so we have our 2in piece of
PVC and then we drilled holes put some
uh random pieces of metal from an old
project in there the idea is we make
this hole big enough that this can go
down so we got to make it wider and then
when we pour concrete on it that will
keep it from coming
up we have one bag of post mix left over
from some random project I think the
doodle
fence so let's go get this set up and
like finished and move our clothes line
well I can't move it till tomorrow but
we'll it's fine
he
e
hey this looks really good thank you I
Like It Isn't it nice it's a very
centralized location M nothing's poking
me it's really nice I love it well and
you got to remember like the reason that
we put it of the Airstream was why did
we put it there I don't know cuz I feel
like it was a bad decision it wasn't in
a great I think we thought because most
of the laundry would go into the air
stream when we first did the pad I was
going to wash stuff up there up there
that's right that was the idea work
there wasn't enough room yeah so we we
ended up washing by the shed and then
I'm dragging clothes all the way from
the shed to the Airstream and yeah it's
just a pain so this is really nice it's
centralized it's close to the bathroom
and it's like on the way to the airam on
the way to the sh speaking of I think we
should go over to the cast de Kaka and
let's just look at it again because
because this is the reason like you put
it here because we're doing laundry in
this room now yeah it's like the the
bathroom and laundry room is the best
thing we've done here I'm so happy with
it also we have a small upgrade we do
yeah on the door oh yeah let's go look
at it okay this is our little upgrade
our friends hunting Candace up in
Phoenix made us this original sign it
was this color the sun has like faded it
which this is going to be faded and
match it later but I just love it so
much it is now the house of poop and
laundry so so let's just we'll go in
here look at it really there's not too
much different in here it's the same
like it's just it just works I was going
to say how's it working out it works so
well and the weather's been so great we
haven't had to use a dryer unless the
kids do a late laundry run which we
asked them not to hey but you know what
they can our kids do their own laundry I
know I am not complaining they do their
own laundry their own bedding everything
so it's been really nice and I cannot
thank my dad enough for coming out my
mom and dad like helping us get this
done it has
been like you just like can Breeze like
it's one less thing to think about one
less thing to worry about and it's just
been like I feel like I live in a house
at some points I mean we can't forget
the real hero of this room which is the
toilet it is very nice we don't have to
worry about anything it just goes where
it's supposed to go and then we don't
have to worry about it so the other
thing that we had to worry about this
winter when it was actually cold was we
wanted to make sure it didn't freeze in
here because now we have all these water
lines and we don't you know obviously we
don't want that to freeze and bust a lot
of them are like under the slab but they
come up and they come up and they're
right near the wall um we kept a close
eye on it this winter when it was super
cold
and I think it would have been okay but
we did end up we have a little space
heater here that we keep on we keep it
on like the lowest setting possible and
it did kick on a few times when it was
like 15° outside I think the lowest I
saw it was like low
40s yeah you see it lower I think I saw
it in the 30s once and that's when we
when I knew the really cold weather was
coming so I got the little space heater
but for the most part it's usually at
least 15 to 20° warmer in here than it
is outside it that thermal Mass transfer
works pretty well but yeah it's
definitely one of those things we've
thought about and we are still keeping
an eye on it we haven't really had much
of a proper winter this year no I was
just thinking when you said it's about
10 to 15° hotter in here like what's
that going to mean in the it's going to
be a little warm in the summer for sure
well we got the windows the windows are
nice cuz the breeze comes through and we
could leave the door open if we really
wanted to no cats cats are a problem
what are they going to do they're going
to mess with they're going to turn the
water and blood it m we've had that
happen in other places yeah but you were
also saying that you fit like big
blankets in here yeah I thought that I
was going to have to take our quilt and
comforter to the launder mat I don't it
fits it's so great it means we don't
have to go to the launder mat which is
amazing yeah cuz it's
disgusting okay well I think your idea
to move the the what do you call it the
sunshine clothes line um is good yeah
very good I love that clothes line I
have another one so that when we have
the house and laundry over there we
could actually have we have two laundry
rooms could be running laundry multiple
times this is amazing this is pretty
amazing okay let's get that house done
okay welcome to our home stead house
hyper Adobe hey guess what guess what
you got so much done the other day I did
you did all those cleats on the windows
and so we're ready to start course 15
now there's one more thing we got to do
which I really wanted to do today but
you said we're going to wait till
tomorrow and that's the big window we
we'll get to that later but for now
we're starting back in course 15 we
finished with the straight walls so what
does that mean we are starting with our
straight walls that's right we're
starting at the pantry yep we're going
start at the front door Pantry wall and
then see where that takes us after that
well we can't do the kitchen wall yet
because of the window so let's get
started it is gorgeous out today so
beautiful 70° Sunshine
windy this winter just be like this year
round this winter has spoiled us well
we've got a lot done so that's good all
right are you ready to start yeah okay
a
oh
step by step but walked the 100 miles
and I still ain't sure is what I'm
trying so hard to find the night seems
longer and the wind blows louder when
you wonder so far from home if I cross
your mind say a prayer I find my way and
get off for this lonely can you hear me
tell me can you hear me i' been calling
out for help still don't see nobody near
me I'm down almost under grounding so
deep in the valley I can't even tell you
which way is the mountain God the only
way word I got I could probably plant a
garden all this dirt I got tra broken
behind me from the I bought sometimes I
really
start friends I'm taking a stroll down
the Burman the swell and you know what
that means it's time to talk about the
tiny shiny meet and greet this is coming
up March 15th March 22nd so not very far
off this is when we open up the
homestead for a day and we give tours
you want to see what's inside the solar
shed we got you you want to look at the
Airstream cover open up one of our solar
pump houses and see how we hooked it all
together absolutely you want to go look
in our garage even though it's super
messy you can do that you can look at
adeliz Dome the chicken Garden the
legendary goat Barn container and you
can even walk through the hyperd
roundhouse start to get a feel for what
it's actually going to be like when it's
done and of course Ashley and the kids
are going to be making some delicious
homemade food this is going to be so
much fun we can't wait to see you all I
promise you're going to meet some really
cool people if you come out so again
it's March 15 and March 22nd right now
we're taking signups for the 15th it's
at tiny shiny home.com meat greet and
then once that one fills up we'll open
up the 2 second make sure you reserve
your spot before they sell out and
hopefully we'll see you there now back
to the build okay we got big straight
wall done and the little pieces in
between the Gin bottle forms uh and so
now we're going to come right here get
this last piece over and then we may go
ahead and switch to this circle part
since we'll have this bag
to cut into um it'll let us start
locking in some of these cleat here
which would be good it's a little out of
order but the nice thing about all of
these forms is that we can really play
around with that a little bit means we
don't have to move our scaffolding as
much we're trying to be a little smarter
about working where our equipment is and
not necessarily where the next wall is
that we should be working on we're
making it work it's fine
n
well small problem
ran out of Portland cement again we have
a bunch on we finally ordered like a
pallet but it won't be here for another
two days but this is a good stopping
point we'll probably pick up a bag or
two for tomorrow and then we'll get the
rest of it Wednesday and then it
shouldn't be a problem for a while but
keep running out of Portland it's
problem
going home we're going
home going home we're going
home going home we're going
home going home we're
