[Music] good morning everyone welcome back to my alotment Diaries my name is Emma these are the allotment Diaries you are watching them right now they are happening right now so if you are enjoying anyway enough of that talk we are here today it's supposed to be quite a nice day we've had a few rainy days and today is supposed to sort of warm up a little bit not that much but a little bit you know s of 11 degrey which kind of feels like summer at the moment I have to be honest 11° feels like summer it actually does and also it's supposed to be quite sunny and blue Skyy later it's a bit cloudy at the moment but it's feeling okay it's feeling okay so I've come down today do a few little jobs I have a confession guys I am feeling ever so slightly burnt out from the allotment at the moment I think recently the jobs that I've done down here have been very big strenuous jobs you know we're sort of talking um dragging a wol barrow full of wood chip putting up a greenhouse stressing about the greenhouse doing really big sort of building jobs which I do not enjoy doing at all I have to admit it's just not my uh my favorite thing and I'm feeling a bit burnt out the idea of coming down today actually filled me with a bit of dread and it's the first time in a long time that I've been like I really don't want to go to the plot so I think I need to mix it up I think I need to mix it up a bit today I think I need to do something that's not too strenuous and boring and repetitive I need to do new things I also need to finish a couple of things I think that's probably making me feel a little bit anxious I need to finish the strawberry planter thing the strawberry cage I need to sort out my uh compost cuz I've dumped a load of stuff in it and not chopped it up I've got rubbish over there from the greenhouse so there's sort of jobs I'm going to do today that hopefully by the end of today I will feel a lot less burnt out and I'll feel more on top of everything here and um like things are getting finished so that is the general plan today we are going to start how where are we going to start Einstein's not here he might still be protesting his new food that's okay that's all right that's you know that's on him I think we will start by finishing the strawberry cage so let's start there oh my God my knees oh my knees why are my knees going already what's happening to me oh I hate getting older so [Music] annoying so the way that we're going to finish the uh strawberry cage is a cage basically so we're going to put netting around it and the way we're going to secure the netting is with one of these this little handy device here is a staple gun if you do not own a staple gun you need to go out immediately and buy a staple gun and order it online you can go out to a shop and buy one um they are incredible there is so many jobs that you can do with a staple gun at an allotment plot so much of this plot is secured with staples you wouldn't believe that would you you'd look around you go what are you talking about every like almost everything is secured either with a nail or a staple this is so versatile it's handy it's easy to use my goodness just go and get staple if you do not have a staple gun go and get a staple gun honestly I feel like one of the sales assistants you know when you go for a job and they say sell me this pen I could sell anyone a staple gun honestly they are amazing right enough going on about staple guns let's staple gun this to that I don't I'm not a fan of Nets cuz they're quite complicated but we need to do it it's going to be quite hard for you to see what I'm doing because netting is quite seethrough Einstein's just shown up he's going to have to wait have to just wait a minute please don't fly on my camera though are you going to fly on my camera oh you are going to fly on my camera you're so annoying right it just has to be right now didn't it that's the thing I obiously flies on my camera this is all I've got Einstein hey yeah there yes okay we good now excellent [Music] wait I barely did that [Music] then easy peasy lemon squeezy stick it on a pancake call me queasy should really release a poetry books shouldn't I oh my God right we have to make sure the netting goes right down to the bottom of the frame otherwise it's completely useless a useless Contraption it might actually be a useless Contraption anyway I'm not going to deny that why didn't that staple go in don't let me down staple gun you're my best friend look at these mushrooms on here can I touch those I don't know actually this is lying on something a mushrooms grew in it which is really weird right okay we're getting [Music] there it is so important to pull the netting super tight and really secure it down whenever you're making anything with netting or any kind of covering like this just really make sure it's sealed and it's tight firstly cuz if it's not it won't work things will get in there um but also birds will get trapped in it um I have seen so many netting Contraptions around the alotment where birds have flown in and got trapped in it and firstly it's not nice to see a bird like flapping around panicking in there but also it's completely against the point of why you've built it because if you've got a bird trapped in there first yeah sure they're going to be really stressed they're going to be flapping around they're going to be panicking how do I get out of this cage then they're going to realize there's an all you can eat buffet on The Flipping floor and they're going to sit down poo everywhere eat all your strawberries and wait for you to come and release them it would be like us getting trapped in Ikea at first you'd be a bit panicked the doors aren't opening the doors aren opening let me out let me out you know panic in shoes don't know what to do can't get a phone signal in here just assuming that you couldn't in Ikea just for the purpose of the story after a while you're like H or you can eat meatballs I can use the ice cream machine I can sleep in a bed there's bathrooms in here you know it becomes a luxury and that's the last thing that you want to give Birds is a luxury so why you not working for what reason what's happening I'm out of Staples what's happening why you not working oh there's no Staples there's no Staples okay fine we'll have to leave it there thank the Lord I don't really want to do that anymore right I don't believe I have any more Staples I believe I might have to buy some more I think I have looked for them before in here and I found a spider and I don't really want to find a spider again so I think I'm going to leave that for today and we will finish it off when I get more Staples I brought bunting with me to put my bunting up I think I might do that next you know yeah I need to do some fun jobs I really do that was that even that was making me feel like oh what am I doing with my life you know I'm staple gunning netting to a wooden frame that I built why you know I just H burn out um let's go put this up right I quite liked where it was last year so we'll just stick with what we like [Music] like yes that was really good done [Music] sticky is that happened why you doing this to me please [Music] [Music] oh it just makes me so happy seeing bunte I don't know why it does that to me it's just so exciting just feels like [Music] spring so I cleared a bit of the back of that my uh original plot I took out all these great big clumps of grass and I feel like maybe it needs a fork in it and stuff and just a bit of chopping bit of Chip chopping why is there a feather in here there's a bird bin in here why for what reason right should we start with trying to chop it it's hard to chop it's unsatisfying chop that's what it is it's really unsatisfying makes it really hard to do cuz I just don't want to do it that's the problem Oh God Can you hire someone to come to a garden and just do the compost would that be okay why am I even chopping this I should use a fork what am I doing with my life just do this shake it a bit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and in [Music] [Music] right so that's egg boxes in there and a bit of cardboard as well from my Greenhouse boxes all on the top I've watered it I chopped it as much as I can I'm just I know I've sort of neglected it a bit I really don't want to do that so every so often I'm going to come and check on it and just make sure it's all going okay I don't know if it is going okay though I have no idea I've never made compost before successfully so if Charles Dowding is watching this he's not he's definitely not he's way too busy for that but if by chance Charles daing is watching this Vlog and you are Charles daing would you please come to my alotment plot and help me sort out my compost just on the off chance you're having I don't know a rainy afternoon and you're sitting inside by the fire eating a leak just sort of you know watching a bit of YouTube and you come across this video maybe I'll title this video Charles daing please help me um I think he'd know what to do I just think he'd know what to do in fact I know he'd know what to do I don't know what to do does that look right does that look like what other people's compost looks like at this time of year I don't know I'm just still layering it up one day we might have compost I don't know I'm going to keep it covered just so it doesn't get too wet I think I would rather be in charge of how much water it gets rather than just letting the weather do it cuz it does get really rainy [Music] here right see oh I feel like I should go and get at least one wheelbarrow full of wood chip I feel like it's a wasted today otherwise cuz I haven't really done very much today just sort of here for the Vibes really but there aren't any there's no sun and Einstein only showed up for like 2 minutes I don't blame him oh it's bloody cold today it's bloody cold um I should really go and get at least one willberry for I think I will be thankful if I do and that is reason enough to go and do it so let's go and do it [Music] [Laughter] w there is still so much wood chip here I know I should be taking full advantage of it I'm not wood chipping the pathway is thick enough and I do know that I've had a lot of comments about that I know they need to be a lot thicker but in my defense it's a really big space I've done 15 wol Barrow Falls of wood chip over the last week and it's not near my plot it's quite a walkway and it's through mud rain you know horrible temperatures cold I know it sounds like I'm complaining I'm not complaining I'm so grateful we've got free wood chip it's amazing but I'm exhausted from getting wood chip literally I'll look back on this when we haven't got any going why did I complain so much get more AR get more hindsight e hindsight is a wonderful thing [Music] [Music] that [Music] right oh my goodness the blue sky is finally showing its face I can't believe it right the uh right the end of the Vlog I'm afraid I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to end the Vlog here and then I'm going to go and get some more wood chip I won't keep showing you me getting it because it's sort of a bit repetitive now and also it's such a strenuous job I've got to put my headphones in and just get it done I think I'll get two more loads yeah and then I feel pretty good about that anyway we started to fix up the strawberry planter we sorted out the compost we got bit a bit of wood chip what else did we do today is that it things are looking very springy in the allotment right now which is very exciting um and next time Friday I will be planting some things out I think I'm going to plant some carrots and some spinach so
