I want to show you a great feature
that's called the snippet tool the
reason that you use the snippet tool is
to take screen prints now we've always
been able to hit the print screen key
and that captures the entire screen okay
like watch on my keyboard I'm going to
hit the print screen
key now I'm going to go into Microsoft
Word and then from here I would just do
a paste I'll just do a control V or
actually I'll just do a paste up here
and notice how it gives me a picture of
that entire screen which is fine
but let's say we wanted just a piece of
that screen well here I have to you know
cut and paste that or or crop it in
Microsoft Word well let me show you what
the snippet tool does for
you uh to turn the snippet tool on I'm
going to pick on the start menu and then
we'll pick on all programs we'll go
into go to accessories and then under
accessories I have this thing that's
called the Snipping Tool we'll click on
that by the way this is is also
available in um in Windows Vista as well
so I'm just going to move this window
over here and it's actually making a new
uh snip at this time so now notice my
mouse I'm just going to highlight a
certain section of the
screen and notice what it did it took a
a snapshot of just that one little area
of the screen now what you would do is
uh I I right clicked in that picture I'm
going to pick on copy now I'll go into
word or the PowerPoint
and when I do a paste it's just that one
section of the screen okay watch that
again now that the Snipping tool is open
what I would probably do is just
minimize that and put it you know onto
my test bar down here I want to pick on
the Snipping Tool I'm going to pick on
new and now you just highlight whatever
part of the screen that you want and
this will work in any program that may
be open let's say I just wanted these
three icons so I just highlight that it
made a snip out of that
at this point I could save that as just
a regular uh a picture file or if I
wanted that into a word or an Excel or
PowerPoint document or any kind of
document I'm going to right click on
that we'll pick on
copy uh we'll go into
word and here we'll just do a
paste and now there's that picture so
instead of uh doing a print screen and
then we have to cop you know crop that
to get exactly what wanted to now we can
get exactly what we want using this
snipping toy I think it's an outstanding
feature uh in this case it's ask me if I
actually want to save the picture in the
Snipping Tool I don't want to do that so
I'll say
no
